We join you before the throne of grace in the name of Jesus, and we thank you for coming humbly before the Father asking for forgiveness of sins, for that is where all peace and restoration begins. We are burdened with you in this season of financial pressure, shame, and fear for your family and your new job, and we bring your situation to the Lord together.
We hear your heart's desire to repay everyone to whom you owe, and that desire honors God. Scripture tells us Psalm 37:21, The wicked borrow, and don’t pay back, but the righteous give generously, and Romans 13:8, Owe no one anything, except to love one another. We also read Romans 13:7, Give therefore to everyone what you owe: taxes to whom taxes are due; customs to whom customs; respect to whom respect; honor to whom honor. This shows us that God calls His children to integrity in financial matters, to fulfill our agreements and to repay what we have borrowed, including the terms we agreed to when we borrowed.
We want to gently and lovingly correct a part of your prayer that does not align with biblical principle. You asked that debt collection agencies would simply close your accounts completely so you would no longer need to make payments because you feel you have already paid more than you borrowed. While we understand the pain of high interest and the feeling of being overwhelmed, asking God to cancel a lawful debt so that we do not have to repay what we still truly owe is not seeking His will. God is a God of justice and truth, and He desires that we walk in honesty and faithfulness even when it is difficult. If interest was agreed upon, we are called to honor our word. The miracle we should seek is not escape from responsibility, but provision, wisdom, strength, and favor to meet our responsibilities in a way that honors Him. Likewise, asking for another personal loan to pay off debts can sometimes add to the burden rather than relieve it, and we must seek godly counsel and wisdom before taking on more debt. Proverbs 21:5 says The plans of the diligent surely lead to profit; and everyone who is hasty surely rushes to poverty.
We also hear how heavy the harassment, threats, repeated calls, and fear of visits to your home have become, and how this disrupts the peace of your household and threatens your employment. God cares deeply about your peace and your ability to provide for your family through honest work. We pray for His protection over your job and your home, and for wisdom in how to deal with creditors in a lawful and upright way. This may include communicating honestly with those you owe, seeking wise financial counsel from a trusted pastor or counselor, making a realistic budget, and working diligently as God provides. 1 Thessalonians 4:11-12 encourages us to work with our own hands and to walk properly toward those who are outside. Matthew 6:33 reminds us, But seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.
We rejoice that you prayed in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him we have access to the Father. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 declares There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Your forgiveness and your standing before God rest on His finished work on the cross.
Let us pray together.
Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ, thanking You for Your mercy and forgiveness through His blood. Lord, we lift up our brother before You in his financial distress. You see the weight of debt, the shame he feels, the pressure from banks and collection agencies, and the fear of losing his new job and troubling his family and friends. Father, we ask for Your divine peace to guard his heart and mind. Philippians 4:6-7 says In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
Lord, grant him wisdom beyond his own understanding. Proverbs 3:5-6 says Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight. Give him clarity to steward what he has, to budget faithfully, to communicate with honesty and humility with those he owes, and to seek godly counsel. Provide for his needs according to Your riches in glory. Philippians 4:19 says My God will supply every need of yours according to his riches in glory in Christ Jesus. Protect his employment, Lord, that he may work diligently and provide for his family and repay what he owes with integrity. We ask that You would restrain unjust harassment and threats, and bring about lawful and peaceful resolution, that his home may be a place of peace again. Help him to not seek escape from obligation but to walk in righteousness, trusting You to make a way where there seems to be no way, and to deliver him from the burden of debt in Your perfect timing. Grant him favor, endurance, and hope, and let this trial deepen his trust in You. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, our provider and our peace. Amen.
We encourage you to remain faithful in prayer, in honest work, and in open communication. Keep diligent records, seek help from a trusted financial counselor or pastor who can help you negotiate a realistic repayment plan, avoid taking on new debt without wise counsel, and continue to seek first His kingdom. God is faithful to those who walk in integrity and trust Him, and He will not forsake you as you seek to honor Him even in this difficult financial valley.
