Bible Verse for Today

Meditate upon these things; give thyself wholly to them; that thy profiting may appear to all. Take heed unto thyself, and unto the doctrine; continue in them: for in doing this thou shalt both save thyself, and them that hear thee.

—1 Timothy 4:15-16 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

"Be diligent!" That's not a phrase, a command you hear much about these days. We want things to come easily. Sweat in the world of pseudo-faith is frowned upon. But Paul wanted Timothy...

But charge Joshua, and encourage him, and strengthen him: for he shall go over before this people, and he shall cause them to inherit the land which thou shalt see.

—Deuteronomy 3:28 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Moses led the people of Israel out of Egypt and in the wilderness but did not get to enter into the Promised Land because of his sin. Yet, for all those years, thankfully, Moses nurtured and prepared the person who would do what he was not allowed to do: lead...

Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

—Romans 3:27-28 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

God's salvation leaves us no room for boasting. We couldn't live up to the righteous demands of the law. We couldn't live up to the character of God. When we were broken and sinful, God bought our salvation by sending Jesus for us and having him pay...

For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.

—1 Thessalonians 4:14 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

As horrible as the Cross was, it wasn't the final chapter of the Jesus' story. Jesus died and then rose again. We can believe two things because of Jesus' resurrection:

1. That Jesus will return in glorious victory for those who have believed in him.
2. That we will be with those we love who have fallen...

I can do all things through Christ which strengtheneth me.

—Philippians 4:13 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

I don't know about you, but I know I've grown soft and spoiled because of all the conveniences I have allowed into my life. If these conveniences were to vanish suddenly, could I, would I, honor God with my praises and thanksgiving? I sure hope so. I am committed to doing so. I want to be like Paul and live with the assurance that I can withstand any situation with...

Let no man despise thy youth; but be thou an example of the believers, in word, in conversation, in charity, in spirit, in faith, in purity.

—1 Timothy 4:12 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

We must not dismiss the idealistic passions of our youth. If you are younger, you are not only part of the church of tomorrow; you are also God's servant today. Serve him mightily and be an example to those who are older! If you are older, don't look down on the enthusiasm of youth, but...

If any man speak, let him speak as the oracles of God; if any man minister, let him do it as of the ability which God giveth: that God in all things may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom be praise and dominion for ever and ever. Amen.

—1 Peter 4:11 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

God gave us gifts to use in his Kingdom at least for two primary reasons:

1. To bring glory to God.
2. To bless others.

Whether we serve or speak, we are to do so with these two...

Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

—1 John 4:10 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Love is demonstrated, not just communicated verbally. When the Scriptures tell us that God loves us, they always show God's actions that demonstrate that love. Here, John wants us to realize that God's love goes first. God demonstrates and shares his love with us before we demonstrate our love for him. He doesn't...

Those things, which ye have both learned, and received, and heard, and seen in me, do: and the God of peace shall be with you.

—Philippians 4:9 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

I don't know about you, but I genuinely hope my life reflects what I say and teach. What a great statement to be able to make to those we lead, whether in the classroom, with our families, while at work, or serving in the church: Put into practice the actions you have seen in my life and heard me...

Submit yourselves therefore to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Draw nigh to God, and he will draw nigh to you. Cleanse your hands, ye sinners; and purify your hearts, ye double minded.

—James 4:7-8 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

James always packs a lot of truth into short messages. Let's focus on the center of this call to holiness: "Submit yourselves, then, to God. ... Come near to God..." Let's draw our hearts closer to God. When we come into...
