Bible Verse for Today

And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

—Romans 5:5 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

The source of our hope is not just in Jesus' prior work on the Cross and in the empty tomb as he "who has destroyed death and has brought life and immortality to light through the gospel" (2 Timothy 1:10). Our hope isn't dependent upon our own will-power and commitment to hang on to hope — although, at...

And he shall stand and feed in the strength of the LORD, in the majesty of the name of the LORD his God; and they shall abide: for now shall he be great unto the ends of the earth. And this man shall be the peace...

—Micah 5:4 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

The prophet, Micah, looked into God's future and anticipated, by the power of the Holy Spirit, the Messiah's presence as Israel's Shepherd. This future one born in Bethlehem (Matthew 2:1-6) would be Israel's Shepherd...

My voice shalt thou hear in the morning, O LORD; in the morning will I direct my prayer unto thee, and will look up.

—Psalm 5:3 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

When I read this verse, I remember ###, a beloved elder in a church where I once preached and a dedicated prayer warrior. He would quote this verse every morning before he entered into prayer. He often quoted this verse with tears in his eyes because he did expectantly wait for the LORD to join him and to answer! Why...

Be not rash with thy mouth, and let not thine heart be hasty to utter any thing before God: for God is in heaven, and thou upon earth: therefore let thy words be few.

—Ecclesiastes 5:2 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Even in our TikTok®, short sound-byte world, far too often, many words are spoken in pledge to God that go unfulfilled. We are also tempted to pray long prayers, thinking God will hear us because of our many words (Matthew 6:7). Instead, let's thank him, praise...

Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ...

—Romans 5:1 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

The cost of peace is always high. Jesus' enormous sacrifice purchased our peace with God. God made sure the price for our rebellion was paid, but he didn't make us pay it because we could never have fulfilled our obligation. Instead, God paid it himself, in Jesus, and asked us to believe this "too-good-to-be-true" gift is true through his...

And grieve not the holy Spirit of God, whereby ye are sealed unto the day of redemption. Let all bitterness, and wrath, and anger, and clamour, and evil speaking, be put away from you, with all malice:

—Ephesians 4:30-31 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

Don't cause God's Holy Spirit to grieve! But how do we do we cause the Spirit of God to grieve? By harboring bitterness, unleashing anger-driven rage, brawling with others, and slandering the name of people or plotting to...

But if from thence thou shalt seek the LORD thy God, thou shalt find him, if thou seek him with all thy heart and with all thy soul.

—Deuteronomy 4:29 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

When was the last time you yearningly searched after God? I'm not talking about an obscure theological insight about God you got from a preacher or another best-selling book about God. When was the last time you sought after the Father so that you could know him better, recognize his nearness...

For to do whatsoever thy hand and thy counsel determined before to be done.

—Acts 4:28 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

The cross of Golgotha and the sacrifice of Jesus for our sins were no afterthought or mistake. Jesus came as God's anointed, his holy Messiah, the Christ, the Suffering Servant, to die for the sins of the people and bring life and immortality to us. Those who were evil and conspired to kill Jesus as they sought to preserve their power and position as...

But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him. God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.

—John 4:23-24 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

God seeks true worshippers. He seeks those who long to praise him passionately and authentically as they praise him spirit to spirit. To help us in our quest, he gives us his Spirit to help us...

Turn not to the right hand nor to the left: remove thy foot from evil.

—Proverbs 4:27 (KJV)

Thoughts on Today's Verse...

When I see someone swerving in and out of their lane during heavy traffic, I immediately go into a defensive driving mode. Whether they are drunk, sleepy, distracted, or just plain careless, I know they are dangerous because they are swerving "to the right and left." God wants us to know the same is true of us when we allow ourselves to be distracted...
