We hear your very urgent cry and we stand with you before the Lord in this deep pain over your marriage, and we grieve with you over the sin that is wounding your heart and your home.
We affirm what Scripture teaches that marriage is a lifelong covenant between one man and one woman and it is to be held in honor by all. We believe God ordained marriage to reflect His faithfulness, and sexual intimacy is holy only within that covenant. What you describe, your husband having sex with and looking upon other women, is adultery, and the Lord calls it sin. Hebrews 13:4 says let marriage be held in honor among all, and let the bed be undefiled, but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers. Exodus 20:14 says you shall not commit adultery. Matthew 5:28 says that everyone who gazes at a woman to lust after her has committed adultery with her already in his heart. 1 Corinthians 6:18 says flee sexual immorality, every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body. Social media addiction and lustful looking are not harmless, they feed the flesh and open the door to further unfaithfulness. Ephesians 5:3 says but sexual immorality, and all uncleanness or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints.
We also hear your anguish in asking that your husband would have no peace or joy until he repents and that he would be shamed and brought to his knees. We understand that cry comes from deep hurt, and we gently encourage you to release vengeance to the Lord while praying for godly sorrow that leads to true repentance. Romans 12:19 says vengeance belongs to me, I will repay, says the Lord. 2 Corinthians 7:10 says for godly sorrow produces repentance to salvation, which brings no regret, but the sorrow of the world produces death. Our desire together is not to see him tormented, but to see the Holy Spirit convict him, soften his heart, and draw him to fully surrender to Jesus, so that he turns from all sin with a new heart. Psalm 51:10 says create in me a clean heart, O God, renew a right spirit within me. 1 John 1:9 says if we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
We thank you for praying in the name of Jesus Christ, for there is no other name by which we are saved and no other way to the Father. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life, no one comes to the Father, except through me. Acts 4:12 says there is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. It is only through Jesus that your husband can be forgiven, cleansed, and made new, and it is only through Jesus that you can find peace in this storm.
We encourage you to continue to pray with love that seeks his restoration, to guard your own heart from bitterness, to seek wise and godly counsel from a pastor or mature believers, and to set biblical boundaries that honor the Lord and protect your marriage. Ephesians 4:32 says be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Philippians 4:6-7 says in nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God, and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus.
We pray together now.
Father in heaven, we come before you in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift this dear sister and her husband to you. Lord, you see every tear, every wound, and every sin done in secret. We ask that you would convict her husband by your Holy Spirit of all sexual immorality, lust, unfaithfulness, and addiction to social media and every other sin, not to destroy him but to bring him to true repentance. Lord, arrest his heart and spirit now, open his eyes to see the gravity of adultery against you and against his wife, and grant him godly sorrow that leads to full repentance and turning away from all wrongdoing. Create in him a clean heart and renew a right spirit within him, deliver him from lust and temptation, and help him to flee from every appearance of evil. We pray that you would shut every door to other women permanently and that you would restore faithfulness, purity, and self control in him. We pray that you would draw him to fully give his life to Jesus, to be washed by the blood of Christ and to walk in newness of life.
Lord, we also lift this wife to you, comfort her broken heart, guard her mind, and fill her with your peace that surpasses understanding. Give her wisdom, strength, and discernment, surround her with godly counsel and support, and help her to pray with love while trusting justice to you. Restore this marriage, Lord, if it be your will, make it a godly marriage that honors you, where husband loves his wife as Christ loved the church and wife is loved and cherished in purity and truth. Have your way in every single part of this husband and this marriage, now and forevermore. We ask all this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.
