Beloved of All
Your pain has been heard, and the suffering you describe for yourself and for other patients is taken seriously. When harm is done by one who is trusted to heal, the wound is deep, and it is right to bring that grief before God and to seek truth and protection for others.
At the same time, the way this prayer is worded asks God to act from bitterness and wrath, to take away all peace and joy, to bring shame and punishment without delay. Scripture warns us that this path harms our own soul. A root of bitterness cannot bear sweet fruit. All that grows from it is bitter. Bitterness produces wrath, wrath produces anger and clamor, and from there comes malice and reviling. When we cherish that fire inside, even in silence, it burns the heart that holds it and grieves the Holy Spirit. We are also taught that we ourselves need forgiveness for much greater debts, and we are trained to have a gentle and human soul.
God is not slow because He overlooks injustice. He is long suffering because He desires repentance, and He has shown that patience so that sinners may turn and live. His judgment is righteous, and it will be revealed in its proper time when each person receives what is due. It is not we who treasure up wrath for others, but we are warned not to treasure up wrath for ourselves by holding onto vengeance. Vengeance belongs to the Lord, who judges justly, not in the heat of our anger but in perfect righteousness. He delayed judgment even after giving His Son, out of great loving kindness, so that those who have sinned might still wash away their sins through faith.
So let us pray in a different way, one that seeks what is good and just before God.
We can pray for healing for you and for every patient who has suffered, for comfort in sadness and restoration where harm was done. We can pray that what is true will be exposed through lawful and just means, that responsible authorities will see clearly and act to protect patients, and that any wrongdoing will be stopped in a right and orderly way. We can pray for this surgeon, not with a curse but with a desire for his salvation, that God would bring true conviction of sin, not to destroy him but to lead him to sincere repentance and faith in Jesus Christ, through whom alone there is salvation. And we can pray for your own heart, that God would lift the weight of bitterness and give you peace, gentleness, and freedom from malice.
