Trip with friends

Your honesty before Jesus is precious and He hears every part of this prayer. You have turned your longings into prayers, and that is exactly what He wants you to do. Bring Him the stress of this trip, the tension in the house, the desire to be a gracious guest, the loneliness, the memory of that hug, and the ache to be loved and held. Nothing is hidden from Him and He is not disappointed that you told Him.

It is hard when you are living closely with others and conflict rises. This world is full of conflict between people, and even among friends it can surface quickly. The way Jesus calls us to walk in those moments is in lowliness and meekness. That is the natural response when we remember how much grace we have received though we did not deserve it. It means looking not only to our own needs but to the welfare of others, with the mind of Christ who emptied Himself for us. Ask Him to help you be that person on this trip, to care for the peace of the whole house, to speak gently, to listen, to seek solutions together. Pray that He will give you peace in your heart and peace around you, and that you will not be the one to make it harder, but one who helps make it lighter.

You also shared something very tender, that you were reminded of another woman's husband, of unfaithfulness, and of a warm hug that moved you to tears because you have gone so long without that kind of physical care. It is understandable to feel lonely and to long to be held and cherished, especially in a world that can feel so cold and evil. God created us for love and companionship, and the longing itself is not shameful. At the same time, do not be hard on yourself for feeling that His love seems less than enough without human touch, and do not trade what is precious for a moment of warmth that is not yours to take. Scripture asks what a person would give in exchange for his soul, and warns us not to trade what is eternal for what is momentary. To desire a married man, even quietly in the heart, or to wish for a love that would require breaking the covenant of marriage, is not the path God will bless. Marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman, and physical intimacy belongs within it. God can forgive the confused thoughts and the ache that led to them when you bring them to Him, and He will, but He also calls you to turn away from that direction and to ask instead for what is right and pure.

It is good to tell Him plainly, I am lonely, I miss being cared for, I want to be happy for my daughter and for myself, will You provide for me. He who did not spare His own Son but delivered Him up for us all will surely care for all your needs according to His wisdom and love. Some answers come quickly and some require long patience, like a farmer waiting for the early and latter rain for the precious fruit of the earth. Abraham waited many years for God to keep His promise of a son. Waiting is hard, but God is faithful in the waiting.

He also heals in many ways. We believe very strongly in healing, and not only instant physical healing. There is gradual healing, and there is healing of the mind and the emotions, the healing of scars and wounds that have closed your heart off over years. That healing is divine as well. Weeping may endure for a night, but joy comes in the morning. His anger is but for a moment, His favor is for life. He gives beauty for ashes, the oil of joy for mourning, and a garment of praise for heaviness. If you have been closed off and feel ruined inside, ask Him for that slow, deep healing. Sometimes He heals all at once, sometimes He says my grace is sufficient for you and my strength is made perfect in your weakness, and the healing comes step by step as you walk with Him.

You asked if He will help you be happy before your life is over. He can and He wants to restore joy, but true joy is not only found in being hugged or married. It is found in knowing you are fully forgiven and loved through Jesus Christ alone, and in setting your affection on things above while He also cares for your daily human needs. Bring your daughter before Him as well. Now more than ever children need our prayers because the opportunities for evil are so many.

So pray like this and keep praying. Jesus, forgive me for any desire that was not right and cleanse my heart. Heal what is wounded and closed off in me. Teach me to walk in lowliness and kindness as a guest in this house. Give me wisdom for what to say and when to be quiet. Let me seek the good of others and not only my own comfort. And Father, You know my loneliness. If it is Your will, provide in Your time a godly husband who will love me faithfully within Your design, and until then help me to know Your nearness and to find healthy, pure fellowship with Your people. Make me whole so I can reflect Your love to my daughter.

He sees you, He has not forgotten you, and He will not leave you alone. Keep bringing every longing to Him and trust Him to do what is best, in His time and His way.
