We have heard your heart and we join with you in prayer over this worry about your friendships and that awkward goodbye last Sunday. We understand how social anxiety can make a small moment feel very large, and how it can cause you to replay what was said and fear that others are annoyed or upset even when they have said it is okay. We want to encourage you that God sees your heart, He cares about your friendships, and He desires to give you His peace in place of this anxiety.
The scripture reminds us, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7 We also take comfort in the promise, casting all your worries on him, because he cares for you. 1 Peter 5:7 And we are reminded, For God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7
Your desire to maintain kind and gracious friendships is good and honors God. A friend loves at all times and a brother is born for adversity. Proverbs 17:17 True friendship endures beyond one awkward moment, and we pray your friends will continue to show that steadfast kindness. We also appreciate your thoughtful plan to bring small gifts next time as an expression of love, not as a way to earn forgiveness that is not needed, but as a simple blessing. As much as it depends on you, we encourage you to walk in peace and gentleness, trusting God with their response. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men. Romans 12:18
We noticed your request speaks of God and His love and grace, but does not mention Jesus. We lovingly want to share that it is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6 There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12 If you have not already done so, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord, for if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. Romans 10:9 It is through Him we can bring every worry, including this one, directly to God with confidence.
We now pray together for you.
Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up our dear friend to You. Lord, You know the anxiety that has weighed on their heart since last Sunday and the fear that their friends might be mad or annoyed. We ask You to quiet that fear with Your perfect love and peace. Help them to believe that they are cared for and to cast this worry fully upon You. We pray for their next encounter with their two friends, that You would prepare the way for it to be warm, friendly, and kind as usual, and that any awkwardness would be washed away by grace and understanding. Bless the small gifts they plan to bring and let them be received with joy as a token of sincere friendship. We pray also for their time at church, that all their friendships there would be safe, enduring, and rooted in Your love and grace, growing stronger in Christ. Give them courage, self-control, and a sound mind, and let Your peace guard their heart. We ask all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our Savior and our peace, amen.
