We hear your heartache and concern, and we lift this situation before the Lord with earnest prayer. First, we must address the foundation of any relationship, it must be built on Christ. The Bible tells us, "Unless the Lord builds the house, they labor in vain who build it" (Psalm 127:1). If your relationship is not rooted in Him, it will struggle to stand firm. We encourage you both to seek God’s will above all else, for He alone can bring true healing and restoration.
The term "fiancé" implies a commitment to marriage, which is sacred in God’s eyes. Marriage is a covenant between one man and one woman, designed to reflect Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). If you are living together or engaging in intimacy outside of marriage, we must gently but firmly rebuke this as fornication, which the Bible clearly warns against (1 Corinthians 6:18-20). Repentance and turning away from sin is the first step toward God’s blessing in your relationship.
We also want to address the language of "being a better partner." While growth in love and selflessness is important, the goal should not be to simply "fix" the relationship for your own sake, but to honor God in it. If your fiancé is a believer, you should both be striving to reflect Christ’s love, forgiveness, and patience toward one another. If he is not a believer, we must pray for his salvation, for "the unbelieving husband is sanctified by the wife" (1 Corinthians 7:14), but this does not guarantee his faith, only God can draw him.
Let us pray together:
"Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this relationship before You. Lord, we ask that You would draw both of them closer to You. Soften their hearts to Your will and Your ways. If this relationship is not aligned with Your purpose, we pray for wisdom and discernment to see the truth. If it is Your will for them to be together, we ask that You restore love, trust, and commitment in a way that honors You. Father, we rebuke any spirit of division, fear, or selfishness that may be at work. Fill them with Your peace and Your presence, especially as he prepares to leave. Help them to seek You first in all things, and may their love for one another reflect Your love for the Church. We ask this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen."
We encourage you to spend time in prayer and Scripture, seeking God’s guidance. If your fiancé is a believer, invite him to do the same. If he is not, pray for his salvation and consider whether this relationship is one that God can bless. Trust in the Lord’s timing and His plan for your life. "Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him, and He will make your paths straight" (Proverbs 3:5-6). You are not alone, God sees your pain and holds your future in His hands.
