It is good that you begin with thanksgiving for the goodness of God, for every mercy flows from His gracious hand. We join you in blessing His name and in bringing these burdens before the throne of grace.
For your prayer for good rest, we turn you to the gracious invitation of our Lord, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. This is a present rest, rest now, not only rest after death, given there and then when we come to Jesus, and it is a perfect rest in Him. Scripture speaks also of a second rest, a rest after rest, for He says, Ye shall find rest. It is the rest of a learner, as we learn of Him and take His yoke upon us. True rest to the child of God is rest on the wing, rest in motion, rest in service, not with the yoke off but with the yoke on. We pray that you may know both the given rest of faith and the found rest of daily walking with Christ, a deep rest, a growing rest, an abiding rest unto your soul. Trust and you shall rest. May the Lord grant you also quiet and needful sleep as you come to Him before you go to rest, and keep your mind stayed upon Christ.
For those dear to you whose names you have laid before the Lord, and for those suffering with lung trouble and with the heart, we bring them to the great Physician. The leaves of the tree are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing. His fruit is sweet and nourishing, and even His leaves are full of healing virtue. He is the Sun of Righteousness risen with healing in His wings, and in Him pardon and healing are joined together. We very speedily care for bodily diseases, for they urge us to seek a physician, but the Lord is able to heal both body and soul, to heal the broken in heart and to bind up their wounds. We pray that He would lay His hand upon each afflicted one according to His wise and loving will, that He would grant quick healing if it so please Him, and give patience and strength if healing tarry, and above all that each one may know the forgiveness of sins in Christ Jesus, for that is the deepest healing. May they look to Him from whom abundant streams of healing flow down to men below.
For your prayer against lustful thoughts, we commend your honesty and join you in the prayer our Lord has taught us, Lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil. Temptation in itself is perilous, and we do right to pray thus. The same trial may be a temptation from Satan and a trial from God, yet our Father knows how to keep His people. We pray that He would keep you from going into temptation, and that you would not go into it yourself, for he who prays to be led away from temptation and then walks into it is not true before God. May the Lord wash your feet from the spots of the world which we gather in these dusty pathways, and preserve you in purity and uprightness. Sanctification is the great separator of Christians from the world, and purity must be joined with charity. Watch and pray, flee the occasions that stir impure desire, and set your mind upon Christ, that your thoughts may be like His mind. He is able to keep you from staining your garments and to cause you to stand fast at the end of the day, for that evil one touches not those whom He keeps.
May the Lord hear your cry, give you rest as one who has believed and entered into rest, grant healing as seems best to His infinite wisdom, and keep you by His Spirit in holiness and peace, for Christ's sake. Amen.
