We hear your cry for help, and we stand with you in this difficult season, lifting your wife and your marriage before the Lord. The weight you carry is heavy, and the exhaustion you feel is real, both emotionally and spiritually. We want you to know that God sees your faithfulness, your patience, and your love, even when it feels unseen or unappreciated.
First, we must address the pain in your words with truth and love. The way your wife is treating you, with constant suspicion, yelling, and cursing, is not God’s design for marriage. Scripture is clear: "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you" (Ephesians 4:31-32). Marriage is meant to be a reflection of Christ’s love for the church, a love that is patient, kind, and selfless (Ephesians 5:25). While her struggle with OCD is real and deserves compassion, her behavior toward you is not justified. We rebuke the spirit of control, accusation, and verbal abuse in this marriage in the name of Jesus. This is not the fruit of the Spirit, and it is not the way God intends for a husband and wife to treat one another.
We also want to gently but firmly address the root of OCD in her life. Obsessive-compulsive behaviors often stem from deep anxiety, fear, or even spiritual oppression. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and he will use any foothold, including mental health struggles, to disrupt peace, sow division, and isolate believers. But we declare that Jesus came to bring life, and life abundantly! "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7). We pray against the spirit of fear that is fueling her OCD, and we command it to loose its grip on her mind and emotions in Jesus’ name.
To you, dear brother, we say this: Your role as her husband is not to be her therapist, her punching bag, or her endless source of reassurance. You are called to love her as Christ loves the church, but that does not mean enabling sin or enduring abuse. "If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men" (Romans 12:18), but peace does not mean silence in the face of ungodly behavior. You must set boundaries with love and wisdom, even if it means seeking godly counsel or professional help together. "Without counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established" (Proverbs 15:22). You are not failing her by insisting on respect and godly treatment, you are honoring God’s design for marriage.
We also want to speak to the loneliness and frustration you must feel. It is not wrong to long for companionship, encouragement, and mutual respect in your marriage. God created marriage to be a partnership, not a prison. "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up" (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10). You deserve to be built up, not torn down. We pray that God would restore the joy, trust, and intimacy that should exist between you and your wife.
Now, let us pray:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage to You. Lord, we ask for Your healing touch to fall upon this wife. We rebuke the spirit of fear, anxiety, and control that has taken root in her mind. We declare that she is fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and that You have not given her a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Father, break the chains of OCD in her life. Bring clarity where there is confusion, peace where there is turmoil, and trust where there is suspicion. We ask that You would surround her with godly counsel, wise doctors, and believers who can speak life into her situation.
Lord, we also pray for this husband. Strengthen him in his weariness. Remind him that his labor in You is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58). Give him wisdom to set boundaries with love, and the courage to seek help when needed. Protect his heart from bitterness, and fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Father, we ask that You would restore the love and respect in this marriage. Soften both of their hearts to see one another through Your eyes. Teach them to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2) and to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15).
We declare that this marriage is under the blood of Jesus, and no weapon formed against it shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We break every curse, every lie, and every ungodly pattern that has taken hold in this relationship. We speak life, healing, and restoration over this couple. May they become a testimony of Your grace and power, drawing others to You through their story.
In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.
Brother, we encourage you to seek out a pastor, biblical counselor, or a trusted Christian mentor who can walk with you through this season. You do not have to carry this burden alone. God is faithful, and He will provide the strength and wisdom you need. "Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved" (Psalm 55:22). Keep your eyes on Jesus, and trust that He is working even in the midst of this storm.
