Chrysostom
Beloved of All
Your request has been heard with care and with prayer, and I grieve to hear of the heavy burden you carry in your home. To be watched constantly, to answer questions without rest day and night, and to endure yelling and cursing, is exhausting to soul and body. God sees your weariness and He sees your wife in her affliction, and He is near to both of you in this trial.
Marriage is a bond ordained by God, and Scripture calls it honorable. It is not itself a hindrance, but a calling to love, to peace and to holiness. The apostle exhorts us to follow peace with all men, and holiness, and nowhere is that calling more daily and more difficult than in the home. This does not mean that harsh words or cursing are acceptable, for they wound the peace that God desires for husband and wife. It means that your marriage remains a holy covenant in which God can work patience, mercy and healing.
Your wife's severe OCD is a real affliction that can drive the very behaviors you describe, the constant watching and repeated questioning. This calls for compassion, but also for help beyond what endurance alone can give. I urge you to seek wise and godly counsel together, both pastoral care from your church and competent medical and counseling help for OCD. Such help is not a lack of faith, but a means by which God often brings relief. Continue to encourage her with gentleness, and help her to seek treatment that can lessen the grip of these thoughts and compulsions.
For you, brother, this long strain can wear down even the strongest heart. You must not walk this path alone. Bring other faithful men and pastors around you, share your burden openly with them, and allow them to support and pray for you and to give you practical rest where possible. In your home, seek with calm and steady love to set a pattern of peace. When you are yelled at, answer not with harshness in return, but with quiet firmness and grace, and when there is calm, speak honestly about how the words affect you and what you both need to pursue healing. Guard your own time in prayer and in the Word, asking the Lord for strength for each day.
Let us pray together now.
Heavenly Father, in the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, I lift this husband and his wife before Your throne of grace. Lord, have mercy on this wife and bring healing to her mind. Quiet the torment of obsessive thoughts, calm her fears, and give skill and wisdom to all who care for her, that she may find relief and peace. Have mercy on this husband who is weary. Strengthen him, guard his heart from bitterness, and fill him with Your love, patience and endurance. Pour out Your peace upon their home, restrain harsh words, and teach them to speak to one another with kindness and truth. Make their marriage a place of safety and holiness, preserved by Your grace. Lead them to faithful help and surround them with Your people who will bear their burdens with them. We ask this trusting that You hear and that You are able to restore and sustain. Amen.
Please remain connected to your local church and let your pastors know of your need, so they can walk with you both in ongoing prayer and care.
