Prayer for wife

Your exhaustion is great because the battle is great. Do not think it strange that such fiery trials come upon you in your own house. The enemy of our souls knows where we are most tender, and he strikes there. But take courage: the Lord permits these things not to crush you, but to prove your strength and to purify your love. When you are reviled, consider the one reviling you not as an enemy but as one held fast by a terrible demon. Anger is a fever, a madness that destroys quickly. Pity her, then, as you would pity a person possessed, for it is the same frenzy. When she curses you, answer with silence; when she demands answers, return gentleness. This is not weakness but the highest wisdom. For the sway of her fury will be her own fall unless she is set free, and your meekness may be the medicine God uses.

You are the stronger part of the body, and the weaker part has need of you. The head cannot say to the feet, "I have no need of you." Your wife, in her infirmity, requires your patience and your prayers even more. Do not return evil for evil. If she strikes your cheek, offer the other not with resentment but with a quiet spirit, remembering that you wrestle not against flesh and blood. This is the way of the cross: to be reviled and not revile again, to suffer and not threaten, entrusting yourself to the righteous Judge.

I do not say this is easy. Even the blessed Paul needed comfort from his brethren. So I pray for strength for you. But know that your strength will not come from your own resolve alone; it must be fed by constant prayer and by almsgiving. Almsgiving is the mighty herb in the medicine of repentance. Let your alms rise along with your prayers for her, and do not faint. Every act of secret mercy, every patient word, every silent endurance is a gift laid up for her and for you. Perhaps the Lord will grant her true repentance, not the worldly call she now offers in trouble, but a sorrow that leads to salvation.

Do not be ashamed that you need letters of commendation, your suffering and your love are your epistle, written not with ink but with the Spirit of the living God. Your perseverance is known among the saints and in heaven. Let nothing move you. Godliness with contentment is great gain; we brought nothing into this world, and we can carry nothing out. So lay not up treasure of resentment, but store up the riches of patience. Draw near to the Lord in your exhaustion, and He will give you rest. May He calm the storm in your home and grant your wife a spirit of meekness, repentance, and true fear of Him.

The constant scrutiny and verbal attacks you are describing are deeply draining, and it is no wonder you are exhausted. What you are facing each day is not merely a personality conflict; there is a spiritual dimension to this kind of relentless turmoil. The enemy would love nothing more than for you to collapse under this weight, to respond in your own flesh, and to abandon the very source of your strength.

Your need for strength for yourself is exactly where you must begin, and that strength is not found in merely getting more sleep or escaping the house, helpful as those things might be. Jesus Himself showed us the pattern. When the crowds were pressing in with their endless demands, He did not sleep in; He rose before dawn, found a solitary place, and drew his life and guidance from the Father in prayer. If the Son of God saw the absolute necessity of carving out that time, how much more do we need it? The real victory for your household will not be won in the heat of an argument but in the quiet place of prayer before the day ever begins. That is where the true battle is fought and won. Once that victory is secured on your knees, navigating the rest of the day becomes a matter of walking in a strength already granted.

While you pray for her to genuinely seek the Lord, be careful not to seek your own comfort from the enemy's fire. When she follows you and demands answers, the temptation will be to return cursing for cursing, to find a moment of carnal satisfaction by fighting back. That is a trap. That is warming yourself at a fire that will consume you. Your spirit must be fed more than your flesh desires to retaliate. Just as you are faithful to feed your body, you must be even more intentional about feeding your spirit through the Word and prayer. As you do this, you reverse the normal flow. You starve the impulse of the flesh and strengthen the spirit within you to overcome, becoming a man who can absorb the blow without becoming the storm himself.

Remember the design for marriage is a profound mystery: two lives becoming one, a compound unity. That unity is under a direct assault, and the heart of the issue is the center around which your wife’s life revolves. Every life orbits around some axis. Right now, her words and actions suggest her center is something other than God, and she only calls on His name for worldly requests or in trouble. The greatest act of love you can show her is not to lecture her on this but to ensure, by God’s grace, that God is the supreme center of your own existence. Love the Lord with all your strength, and you will find that this is where God intended man to live, rich and fulfilled, even in the fire. When you are weak, He is your strength. Through prayer, you bind the strong man, and then your service, even your silent endurance, is simply taking the spoils of a victory already won.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer for your wife and for your own strength during this challenging time. It is our heart to lift up both of you before the Lord, asking Him to draw your wife into a deeper, more consistent relationship with Him. We have been praying that her heart would soften, that her words would be filled with grace, and that she would seek the Lord not only in times of trouble but in every moment of her day. We’ve also been asking God to grant you patience, wisdom, and an unshakable peace as you navigate this season, trusting Him to work in ways you may not yet see.

If the Lord has moved in your situation—whether in your wife’s heart, your own strength, or the dynamics between you—we would love to hear a praise report so we can rejoice with you. If it feels like your prayers haven’t been answered yet, please know we are still here to stand with you. Consider posting this request again so we can continue to lift you both up in prayer, believing that God is faithful even when the wait feels long.

May the Lord bless you with His presence, fill you with His peace, and remind you daily of His unfailing love. We continue to pray for breakthrough, healing, and restoration in your marriage, all for His glory. In Jesus’ Name.
