Prayer for wife

Servant
Please pray for my wife, she has severe “OCD” and is constantly watching everything I’m doing. I am exhausted from answering questions all day and night and being yelled at and cursed at all the time.

We hear your cry for help, and we stand with you in this difficult season, lifting your wife and your marriage before the Lord. The weight you carry is heavy, and the exhaustion you feel is real, both emotionally and spiritually. We want you to know that God sees your faithfulness, your patience, and your love, even when it feels unseen or unappreciated.

First, we must address the pain in your words with truth and love. The way your wife is treating you, with constant suspicion, yelling, and cursing, is not God’s design for marriage. Scripture is clear: "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you" (Ephesians 4:31-32). Marriage is meant to be a reflection of Christ’s love for the church, a love that is patient, kind, and selfless (Ephesians 5:25). While her struggle with OCD is real and deserves compassion, her behavior toward you is not justified. We rebuke the spirit of control, accusation, and verbal abuse in this marriage in the name of Jesus. This is not the fruit of the Spirit, and it is not the way God intends for a husband and wife to treat one another.

We also want to gently but firmly address the root of OCD in her life. Obsessive-compulsive behaviors often stem from deep anxiety, fear, or even spiritual oppression. The enemy seeks to steal, kill, and destroy (John 10:10), and he will use any foothold, including mental health struggles, to disrupt peace, sow division, and isolate believers. But we declare that Jesus came to bring life, and life abundantly! "For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control" (2 Timothy 1:7). We pray against the spirit of fear that is fueling her OCD, and we command it to loose its grip on her mind and emotions in Jesus’ name.

To you, dear brother, we say this: Your role as her husband is not to be her therapist, her punching bag, or her endless source of reassurance. You are called to love her as Christ loves the church, but that does not mean enabling sin or enduring abuse. "If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men" (Romans 12:18), but peace does not mean silence in the face of ungodly behavior. You must set boundaries with love and wisdom, even if it means seeking godly counsel or professional help together. "Without counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established" (Proverbs 15:22). You are not failing her by insisting on respect and godly treatment, you are honoring God’s design for marriage.

We also want to speak to the loneliness and frustration you must feel. It is not wrong to long for companionship, encouragement, and mutual respect in your marriage. God created marriage to be a partnership, not a prison. "Two are better than one, because they have a good reward for their labor. For if they fall, the one will lift up his fellow; but woe to him who is alone when he falls, and doesn’t have another to lift him up" (Ecclesiastes 4:9-10). You deserve to be built up, not torn down. We pray that God would restore the joy, trust, and intimacy that should exist between you and your wife.

Now, let us pray:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage to You. Lord, we ask for Your healing touch to fall upon this wife. We rebuke the spirit of fear, anxiety, and control that has taken root in her mind. We declare that she is fearfully and wonderfully made (Psalm 139:14), and that You have not given her a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). Father, break the chains of OCD in her life. Bring clarity where there is confusion, peace where there is turmoil, and trust where there is suspicion. We ask that You would surround her with godly counsel, wise doctors, and believers who can speak life into her situation.

Lord, we also pray for this husband. Strengthen him in his weariness. Remind him that his labor in You is not in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58). Give him wisdom to set boundaries with love, and the courage to seek help when needed. Protect his heart from bitterness, and fill him with Your peace that surpasses all understanding (Philippians 4:7). Father, we ask that You would restore the love and respect in this marriage. Soften both of their hearts to see one another through Your eyes. Teach them to bear one another’s burdens (Galatians 6:2) and to speak the truth in love (Ephesians 4:15).

We declare that this marriage is under the blood of Jesus, and no weapon formed against it shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17). We break every curse, every lie, and every ungodly pattern that has taken hold in this relationship. We speak life, healing, and restoration over this couple. May they become a testimony of Your grace and power, drawing others to You through their story.

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray. Amen.

Brother, we encourage you to seek out a pastor, biblical counselor, or a trusted Christian mentor who can walk with you through this season. You do not have to carry this burden alone. God is faithful, and He will provide the strength and wisdom you need. "Cast your burden on Yahweh, and he will sustain you. He will never allow the righteous to be moved" (Psalm 55:22). Keep your eyes on Jesus, and trust that He is working even in the midst of this storm.

Thank you for sharing so honestly about what you and your wife are walking through. Being asked questions all day and night and being spoken to harshly would leave anyone depleted, and we hear how heavy and tiring this has become for you while you also worry about your wife.

It is a lot to love someone through intense struggles and at the same time absorb that kind of strain. Needing rest and support in that place is not a failure, it is human. We encourage you not to carry this alone.

If she is not already connected to care, we gently encourage you to help her connect with her doctor or a trusted counselor alongside prayer, and for you to have someone to talk with as well, whether a pastor, counselor or trusted friend, who can walk with you and help you think through next steps and healthy boundaries. You both deserve support.

Father, we lift this husband and his wife to You. You see her distress and his exhaustion. Please bring wisdom for next steps, calm and healing in their home, and strength and rest for him. Surround them with caring, wise help and remind them they are not alone. Give them hope and direction day by day. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your heavy burden has been heard and it is laid before the Lord with tender care. To watch over one you love and to be watched without ceasing, to answer questions through the day and into the night, and to bear harsh words and cursing, is a trial that would weary the strongest soul. The Lord knows your exhaustion and He does not despise your cry.

The Scriptures teach us that marriage is not a bond of mere nature but of choice, cemented by mutual love, wherein two are made one flesh. This is a great mystery, for it speaks of Christ and His Church. As Christ has loved His people with a patient and enduring love, so He calls husbands and wives to love one another, to become one in heart and life, not two persons jealously guarding separate interests, but one before God. Where that oneness is strained by affliction, there is all the more need of grace from Him who is the true Bridegroom of the soul.

We will pray for your dear wife, that the Lord who is our Redeemer and Vindicator would have mercy upon her in this severe affliction. We will ask that He would quiet her troubled mind, calm her fears, and grant her peace that passes understanding, and that He would guide her and you to wise and godly help for this infirmity of body and mind. We will pray also for you, that the Lord would renew your strength as you wait upon Him, that He would guard your heart from bitterness, and give you wisdom to love with both truth and tenderness.

Bear with her in love, yet bear not this burden alone. Seek the counsel of a faithful pastor and of godly physicians who can help with such suffering, for the Lord often works through such means. Seek also the help of the church, that you may have respite and support, and that neither of you may be left isolated in this trial. Harsh and cursing speech is not the fruit of love and it ought not to be excused, even where affliction is great. In meekness, seek to set a pattern of gentle speech, to establish needful boundaries for rest and for peace in the home, and to entreat your wife in love to seek help, taking counsel together with those who can walk beside you both.

May the Lord Himself be your strength. He who has betrothed His people to Himself forever will not forsake those who trust in Him, and He will bring His own to the marriage supper of the Lamb where all tears shall be wiped away.

Let us pray together. O Lord our God, look in mercy upon this husband and his wife. Thou knowest her distress and his weariness. Lay Thy healing hand upon her mind and give her rest from tormenting thoughts and fears. Give to him patience, wisdom, and fresh strength for each day, and let Thy love be shed abroad in their hearts. Lead them to faithful help, guard their home with Thy peace, and draw them nearer to Christ, in whose name alone is salvation, and in whose love alone marriage finds its true pattern. Keep them and restore them, for Thy glory. Amen.
