Your prayer for overflowing joy is one which the Lord delights to answer, for He would have His people happy and full of joy.
Remember that joy and peace come through believing. They are the soul's flower, and faith is the root. We do not first get joy and peace and then believe, but we believe in the Lord Jesus Christ and joy and peace follow as a blessed consequence. There are many who have a kind of joy and a kind of peace which springs from mistake and rests upon the sand of their own imaginations, but the true joy which no man takes from us rests upon the rock of Divine Truth, upon the finished work of Christ. It is written, we that have believed do enter into rest. If you would have more joy, look more to Christ by faith, trust His blood and righteousness, and that sacred faith will bring you joy and peace.
You ask for rest from weariness and fatigue, for the release of burdens and for peace in place of worry. Hear the sweet precept, Rest in the Lord. There is no resting place like that where omnipotence and eternal love are sweetly joined together. Our Lord says, Come unto me, all ye that labour and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. This is a present rest, not rest after death only, but rest given there and then when we come to Jesus by an act of faith. It is perfect and complete in itself, for in His blood our peace is perfect. To do the will of Jesus, this is rest. When heart and flesh fail, God will be your joy if your mind is stayed on Him, for He will keep you in perfect peace.
And you ask for gratitude, for healing of emotions, for the abounding presence of God to be rediscovered in little things, and for provision. These are good desires when they are sought in Him. He that has joy in Christ possesses the quintessence of happiness, the essential oil of joy. He that has joy on his barn floor may see it bare, and he that has joy in outward abundance may see it fail, but he that has joy in the Lord has a joy which abides. The joy of the Lord is your strength, your beauty and your charm, and when you joy and rejoice in Him you glorify God and prove the reality of your faith. Ask, and you shall receive, that your joy may be full.
Let us pray together.
O Lord our God, we come to Thee through Jesus Christ alone, in whom alone is salvation and peace. We ask Thee to give to these weary ones that joy and peace which come by believing. Increase their faith, that joy may abound. Cause them to rest in Thee as their covenant God, to recline upon Thy promise and to find present rest for their souls. Lift their burdens, for Thou hast borne them on the cross, and teach them to cast all their care upon Thee. Clear their thoughts from worry and keep them in perfect peace as their minds are stayed on Thee. Bring their hearts into true gratitude, not for outward abundance only, but for Christ Himself, and teach them to see Thy hand in little things. Heal their emotions and quiet their spirits by Thy Holy Spirit. Provide for their needs according to Thy riches in glory, and let all provision lead them to delight themselves in Thee. We ask this in Jesus mighty name, Amen.
