Pray to not be a messy person in order to harm others

We join you in this humble prayer of confession and we thank God that you have come before Him seeking forgiveness, for this is what He desires from us.

The Word tells us If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness 1 John 1:9. We rejoice that you have asked in the name of Jesus, for it is only through Him that we have forgiveness and access to the Father, as Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6.

We hear your desire not to be a messy person who harms others, and this is a godly sorrow that leads to repentance. To be messy in character, in habits, in speech, or in our living can indeed cause hurt to those around us, even when we do not intend it. Scripture reminds us that God is not a God of confusion, but of peace 1 Corinthians 14:33, and He calls us to put away that which harms and to walk in newness of life. We are urged to let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:31-32.

Harming others, whether through carelessness, disorder, harsh words, or neglect, is not in keeping with the love Christ commands. We are to love our neighbor as ourselves Mark 12:31 and to do all we can to live peaceably with all men If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. The messy ways of the old self, the flesh, are to be put off, that you may be renewed in the spirit of your mind, and put on the new man, who in the likeness of God has been created in righteousness and holiness of truth Ephesians 4:23-24.

We pray together for you now.

Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we thank You for this heart that confesses sin and desires to be cleansed. We ask You to forgive all sins, errors and shortcomings as Your Word promises, and to wash this dear one clean by the blood of Jesus. Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me Psalm 51:10. Lord, remove any habit, attitude, or disorder that causes harm to others and replace it with Your order, Your peace, and Your love. Help us to bear the fruit of Your Spirit which is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faith, gentleness, and self-control Galatians 5:22-23, so that our lives may not bring confusion or hurt but may bless those around us. Teach us to be diligent, to be thoughtful, to be considerate, and to let our light shine before men, that they may see our good works and glorify You Matthew 5:16. Give strength to walk each day in repentance, in humility, and in obedience, not returning to old patterns but pressing forward in Christ. We ask this in Jesus name, amen.

We encourage you to continue daily in confession, in prayer, and in the reading of Scripture, asking the Holy Spirit to show you any area where disorder or carelessness may be affecting others and to give you wisdom to make it right. Where harm has been done, seek to make amends with gentleness and humility. God is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you, and He will enable you to live a life that honors Him and loves others well.

Thank you for sharing this straightforward prayer. We hear a sincere desire in your words to walk more carefully and not cause hurt to others, and to be honest before God about where you have fallen short.

It is a good and humble thing to bring your sins and shortcomings to the Lord as you did. Wanting to change because you care about how your actions affect others reflects a tender conscience, and God meets that honesty with grace. Growth in this area is usually not all at once but step by step as we learn to put off old habits and put on new ways of thinking and acting that reflect His love.

One small step that often helps is to notice one specific pattern where messiness tends to spill over onto others, maybe with words, follow through, or habits at home or work, and bring that one pattern to God daily and to one trusted mature believer or pastor who can encourage you and pray with you regularly.

We are praying for you and are grateful you reached out.

Father, thank You for this heart that wants to honor You and not harm others. We ask You to forgive what has been confessed and to gently shape daily thoughts and actions to be more careful and loving. Give wisdom, strength for today, and trusted people to walk alongside. In Jesus name, amen.

There is forgiveness with God, and your prayer for mercy has been heard by Him who delights to pardon. You have done well to come as you are, trembling and desiring forgiveness, and to ask it in the name of Jesus, for there is forgiveness only through Him.

Scripture says, There is forgiveness with You, that You may be feared. This is not a forgiveness from man, but a divine forgiveness, I, even I, am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. Were all the world to withhold pardon, yet if God forgives, you are forgiven indeed. And it is a surprising forgiveness, so full and free that God Himself speaks as though to assure doubting hearts, and it is a complete forgiveness, an absolute blotting out of the debt, so that when you come by faith to Christ, the Lord promises oblivion to all your sins. In Christ we have not only forgiveness at the first, but a continuous and eternal forgiveness, perfect and divine, because He died, the Just for the unjust, that He might bring us to God.

With that forgiveness, God also gives repentance unto life. There is a repentance that is only of the flesh, a carnal sorrow that fears judgment but does not glorify God. True repentance is the work of the Holy Spirit in the renewed heart. It gives God glory, it stands at the Cross and sees sin forgiven and then grieves more deeply that those sins were laid upon the Lord, and it turns from sin because of the love of Christ who pardoned it. Faith and repentance are inseparable. The repentance which ejects sin as an evil tenant is joined to the faith which admits Christ to be the sole master of the heart.

You ask not to be a messy person who harms others. That desire itself is a fruit to be tended. True repentance will yield works meet for repentance, it will be practical and it will last. It does not end with one prayer at the beginning of the spiritual life, for repentance lives as long as faith lives. It shows itself in a daily care to avoid present sin because of the love of God who died for us, and in a tender concern not to wound others by careless words, disorderly habits, or selfish neglect. Some of us have had so much manifest forgiveness, so much outward sin forgiven, that for us to forgive and to walk gently with others ought to be as natural as to open our hands.

Therefore take your assurance from the Word, There is forgiveness, and where God draws no limit, do not draw any. Whatever your sins, errors and shortcomings have been, there is forgiveness with God through Jesus Christ His Son, at this moment, for all who trust Him. Come not merely with a hope, but with confidence in His promise and in the finished work of Christ.

We pray for you now, that the Lord would seal to your conscience the completeness of His pardon through the blood of Jesus, that He would work in you that holy, healthy, heavenly repentance which glorifies Him, and that He would keep you by His Spirit, making you watchful, orderly and loving in all your ways, so that you may not harm others but build them up. May He teach you to walk in faith toward Christ and in love toward your neighbor, bearing fruit that remains, and may you know more and more the joy of being forgiven and the holy fear that comes from forgiveness. In Jesus name, Amen.
