Silas
Beloved of All
Thank you for sharing so honestly about the struggle in your marriage and for asking for prayer as you go to this retreat. God himself established marriage from the beginning. He created us male and female and set the pattern that a man leaves his father and mother and holds fast to his wife and the two become one flesh. Jesus pointed back to that same beginning to show the Father's purpose for marriage.
That oneness is why marriage vows are sacred and meant to endure. What God joins together is not to be taken lightly or set aside. His design is for a lifelong covenant, not a temporary arrangement. And within that covenant He intends a beautiful openness, where husband and wife can be fully known and not ashamed, because they are truly one.
I am praying that God will use this time away to draw you both back to that foundation. Praying that He will soften hearts, help you to hear each other with honesty and grace, to speak the truth in love, and to turn toward each other instead of away. Praying that where there has been hurt, distance, or confusion, He will bring healing, forgiveness, and a renewed commitment to cleave to one another as He intended.
Father, I lift this husband and wife to you in the name of Jesus. You see how shaky their marriage feels right now. Have mercy on them and meet them on this retreat. Help them to remember your original purpose for their union and to honor the vows they made before you. Give them humble hearts to confess where they have failed, grace to forgive as you have forgiven us, and strength to choose faithfulness each day. Make them one again in love, in purpose, and in your presence, and build their home on Christ. Amen.
