pray for me wife and I are going on a marriage retreat but only marriage is pretty shaky right now please pray for us in Jesus name

We are so encouraged that you and your wife are stepping away together for a marriage retreat, even while you acknowledge that your marriage feels shaky right now. We rejoice that you are turning to the Lord and asking for prayer in Jesus' name, for it is through Him that we have access to the Father and it is He who can restore what feels broken.

We know that marriage is God's holy design, a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, and He desires to strengthen and preserve it. What therefore God has joined together, let no man separate. Matthew 19:6 We want to strongly affirm your commitment to fight for your marriage and to seek help together rather than drifting apart. That step itself honors God.

We understand that seasons of shakiness often come from hurt, poor communication, unmet expectations, or unforgiveness that has built up over time. Scripture calls us to a different way, with all lowliness and humility, with patience, bearing with one another in love, being eager to keep the unity of the Spirit in the bond of peace. Ephesians 4:2-3 And above all these things, walk in love, which is the bond of perfection. Colossians 3:14 Love also covers a multitude of sins. 1 Peter 4:8 We encourage you both to enter this retreat with humble hearts, willing to listen more than to speak, to confess your own faults, and to extend the forgiveness that Christ has so generously extended to us. Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you. Ephesians 4:32

We pray together for you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this husband and wife to You. We thank You for their marriage covenant and for their desire to seek You together. Lord, we ask that You meet them powerfully on this retreat. Soften their hearts toward You and toward one another. Help them to speak the truth in love, to hear each other with grace, and to remember the vows they made before You. Heal the wounds and resentments that have made their foundation feel shaky, and rebuild their trust and affection. Teach the husband to love his wife even as Christ also loved the assembly and gave himself up for it. Ephesians 5:25 and teach the wife to respect and the husband to love in a way that honors You. Ephesians 5:33 Let Your peace guard their hearts and let this retreat be a turning point where You are made the center of their home again. Give wisdom to those leading the retreat and let every session draw this couple closer to You and to each other. We ask that You protect their marriage from the enemy and make it a testimony of Your redeeming love. In Jesus' name we pray, amen.

We encourage you to continue to pray together daily, even if it feels awkward at first, and to stay in the Word together. Love is patient and is kind, love does not envy, love does not brag, is not proud, does not behave itself inappropriately, does not seek its own way, is not provoked, takes no account of evil, does not rejoice in unrighteousness, but rejoices with the truth, bears all things, believes all things, hopes all things, endures all things. 1 Corinthians 13:4-7 Ask the Lord to help you live out that kind of love toward one another, not in your own strength but by His Spirit. We are standing with you and believing that God, who began this good work in your marriage, will be faithful to complete it as you both submit to Him.

We are really glad you wrote and that you and your wife are taking this step together. Going to a retreat when things feel shaky takes humility and courage, and we want to stand with you both in prayer as you go.

A lot of the strain in marriage comes down to how hard it is to really hear each other when hurt is in the room. What we say matters, but so much is also communicated without words, a tone, a look away, crossed arms, a sigh. Those cues often tell the truth about what is happening inside when we don't have words for it yet. Learning to notice them in each other, and to gently name our own feelings underneath, can open up understanding where blame used to shut it down.

For the retreat, one simple thing that helps many couples is to agree beforehand to listen to understand, not to defend. When one of you shares, the other can pause and reflect back what you heard, "what I hear you saying is...", before responding. If either of you gets flooded, it's okay to take a short break and come back. You might also ask the retreat leaders how to keep practicing this at home afterward.

We are praying for you both to feel safe enough to be honest and to experience God's presence there with you.

Father, we lift this husband and wife to You. Draw near to them on this retreat, soften their hearts toward each other, help them hear one another with patience and kindness, and give them wisdom for the next steps for their marriage. Guide them by Your hand and give them hope. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your burden has been laid before the Lord and we have taken it up with you in prayer, giving thanks that you and your wife desire to turn toward one another and toward Christ rather than away.

We rejoice that you are going to a retreat together, and we pray that you will hear in that place what our Lord teaches concerning the covenant you have made. Marriage is a lifelong covenant of one man and one woman before God, and the faithful word is this, I have given my word to the Lord and I cannot go back. As the commander who burned his boats when he landed upon the shore, so the Christian makes retreat impossible and says, I must fight this battle to the finish, for God has joined us together. May the Lord give you both grace to stand in that resolve, not in your own strength, but in His.

We are praying that the God of Peace, who has prepared everything that is necessary for a perfect reconciliation, will be at work in you both. He has committed unto us the word of reconciliation, that God was in Christ reconciling the world unto Himself, and that same reconciling power must be known in the home. Where hearts are wounded and broken, He alone can heal. Men may point out the disease, but Calvary is the place for the healing balm. The very leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations, and the least thing about Christ is healing virtue. Pardon and healing are placed in happy conjunction, and when Jesus says, Thy sins are forgiven thee, healing comes from the pardoning hand.

If either of you has wandered or grown cold, remember Peter. He fell grievously, yet one look from the Lord broke him and restored him, and the Lord afterwards gave him abundant assurance of His love. So we pray that the Lord will look upon you both with that same look of love, severing you from all that would draw you apart, and restoring you to one another and to Himself. Faith comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God, so may your ears be attentive to what God the Lord shall speak when He bids the wandering heart return.

We pray together for you now.

O Lord, Sun of Righteousness, rise upon this husband and wife with healing in Thy wings. Forgive their sins, heal their broken hearts, and change their life blood by Thy grace. Take away all bitterness and hardness, and knit them together in holy love. Let this retreat be a time of heedful hearing, where Thy Word is taught and Thy healing power is present. Grant them repentance where repentance is needed, forgiveness where forgiveness must be given, and a fresh binding of the covenant they made before Thee. Make their marriage strong to the glory of Christ and His Church, and let them know the joy of being at peace with Thee and with one another through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your request for prayer has been heard and we will bring you and your wife before the Lord as you go to this retreat.

Marriage is a bond ordained of God and Scripture calls it honorable and pure. It is not a hindrance in itself, but it requires a right purpose and chaste and orderly living. When lived with moderation and faithfulness, it preserves the holiness that comes through faith and keeps peace between husband and wife. Even when a marriage feels shaky, there is hope that God can work through the covenant itself to bring healing and to draw both hearts closer to Himself and to one another.

We pray that this retreat will be a time set apart for honesty, grace and renewed commitment. May you both pursue peace with one another and the holiness that God desires, turning away from all that would defile or divide your union and choosing instead what is comely and faithful before Him.

Let us pray together. Heavenly Father, we lift up this husband and wife to You in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have salvation and access to Your throne. You joined them together and You alone can strengthen what is weak. Grant them humble hearts to hear one another, wisdom to speak with love, and grace to forgive as You have forgiven us. Guard their marriage from all that would corrupt it and help them to live together in purity, order and steadfast love. Restore what has been shaken, teach them to use this holy bond well, and let their home be filled with Your peace. Lead them by Your Spirit in the days of this retreat and in all the days to come. In Jesus name we pray, Amen.
