Chrysostom
Beloved of All
We have heard your prayer and we join with you in bringing it before God in the name of Jesus Christ, through whom alone we have mercy and reconciliation for our sins.
Marriage is honorable and pure, and God gave it to preserve holiness and to keep husband and wife together in love and faithfulness. It is not marriage itself that hinders a man from being godly, but how he uses it. When it is lived with moderation and with the fear of God before our eyes, it leads to great blessing.
So we pray for you and your wife, that God would bless your covenant and restore love between you. We pray that He would soften hearts, grant repentance where needed, and help you both to follow peace and holiness. We pray that your time together at the retreat this weekend would be fruitful, that you would have grace to listen well, to speak with kindness, and to be gentle and not severe.
If you would be seen as a man of God, love your wife not only for her sake but for Christ's sake, as Christ loved the Church. Let your headship be honorable by caring for her soul, by despising greed, by seeking excellence of soul, and by doing all as service to the Lord. This is how love is cemented and how trust is rebuilt. Do not give place to suspicion, and do not listen to slander, but give your time and faithfulness to your own wife who shares your home and life.
We ask God to help you to be steadfast, patient, and chaste in your marriage, keeping your marriage bed undefiled and your life ordered in faith. May He grant your wife to see in you a renewed love and reverence for Him, and may He grant you both joy together and a stronger union.
We pray this in the name of Jesus Christ our merciful and faithful High Priest, to whom with the Father and the Holy Spirit be glory forever. Amen.
