The news of your father facing open heart surgery brings a sobering weight, and it is right that your first cry is for his soul as well as his body. The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and in these moments, we are forced to reckon with what truly matters. All the treasures of wisdom and knowledge are hidden in Christ Jesus, so there is no greater request than for your dad to accept Him as Savior.

The world’s wisdom cannot produce the peace your parents need right now. It fails, it comes to nothing. But the wisdom from above is first pure, then peaceable. True peace, the kind that steadies a heart in a storm, comes only after a person makes peace with God. When sins are forgiven through the cross, the inner war stops. I pray your dad will confess with his mouth Jesus as Lord and believe in his heart that God raised him from the dead, for it is with the heart one believes unto righteousness. Then the Spirit fills him with that settled peace that surpasses all understanding.

I am praying that the Great Physician will heal every blockage in his physical heart, giving the doctors skill and clear direction, wisdom from above, not the flawed wisdom of men. But more than that, I am asking the Lord to remove the deeper blockages, the ones that keep him from seeing his need. The Spirit opens eyes to behold wondrous things out of God’s law. May your father’s eyes be opened now, so that he cries out for mercy and finds eternal life in Christ.

Encourage him to seek the Lord with his whole heart. When wisdom enters the heart and knowledge becomes pleasant to the soul, discretion and understanding will guard him. The Lord places His desires within us, and I believe this trial may be His severe mercy to draw your dad to Himself. Pray that mercy and truth would be written on the table of his heart, that he would call wisdom his sister and run to the One who is the way, the truth, and the life.

We are standing with you, asking that the peace that Christ alone gives would fill your mom and dad right now, and that this surgery would mark the moment he passed from death to life.
