My ###'s dog

Disciple of Prayer
My daughter has a four year-old dog and since my daughter has had a baby, she hasn’t been able to spend a lot of time with her or bring her out as much as she used to, she’s sleeps down in the basement she keeps her segregated from the rest of the family because they don’t trust her around the baby which I get. It’s just not fair to her. so she’s not getting the love attention that she deserves she’s showing aggression towards the baby but hasn’t hurt the baby. She bit my daughter though while she was vacuuming I think it’s because she was trying to bite the vacuum. She doesn’t like vacuums but she bit my daughter instead so now she’s going to have her put down. And although I get the protection towards the baby and agree she should be rehomed, I don’t agree in putting her down. I believe in my heart that she could be good with someone who doesn’t have children or other pets. She has a future. She’s only four please pray for this dog because I think she is putting her down today. I’m not sure if it’s today, but I’m assuming today. She’s a good girl just very anxious and not stimulated enough living there, but it doesn’t mean she should die😞🙏 I’m asking everyone to pray for this pup I know for some people it’s just a dog, but to me that’s a family member, she’s my grandpup❤️🐾

We join you in this heavy burden and we hear how deeply you love this dear dog, your grandpup, and how torn you feel between understanding your daughter's desire to protect her baby and your conviction that this four year old dog still has life and love to give. We grieve with you over this situation and we bring it before the Lord together.

We know that God cares about His creation and He has given us responsibility as stewards over the animals He has made. Proverbs 12:10 tells us A righteous man respects the life of his animal, but the tender mercies of the wicked are cruel. And Genesis 1:26 reminds us that God gave mankind dominion over the animals, which is a calling to care for them with wisdom and compassion, not carelessly. Jesus Himself said in Matthew 10:29 Aren't two sparrows sold for an assarion? Not one of them falls on the ground apart from your Father's will. If God notices even the sparrow, we know He sees this anxious dog and He sees your compassionate heart, and He also sees your daughter and her baby. Protecting a vulnerable child is right and necessary, and keeping a dog that has shown aggression toward the baby separated is wise, but we agree with you that ending the life of a young, otherwise healthy animal when rehoming is possible deserves careful and prayerful reconsideration.

We encourage you, while there is still time today, to speak gently and urgently with your daughter in love. Share your concern not in anger but with grace and offer practical help. Perhaps you could offer to take the dog temporarily yourself, or help her contact a no kill rescue, a breed specific rescue, or a trusted veterinarian or trainer who can evaluate the dog honestly. Many rescues will work with dogs who are anxious and under stimulated and who need a home without small children or other pets, exactly as you described. An experienced trainer or behaviorist may also help assess whether the biting incident was redirected anxiety toward the vacuum as you suspect, and whether the dog can be safely placed. If your daughter is overwhelmed with a new baby, offering to do the legwork of calling rescues, posting in responsible rehoming networks, and screening adopters may lift that burden from her and give this dog the chance you believe she deserves.

We also noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently share why we always pray in His name. It is only through Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father and it is only by His name that we are saved. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And Acts 4:12 says There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Jesus, believing that He died for our sins and rose again, and confess Him as Lord, for Romans 10:9 says that if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. It is because of Jesus that we can bring even this painful request about a beloved pet before God's throne with confidence.

We pray together now for you, your daughter, her baby, and this precious dog.

Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this family to You. Lord, You know the love our sister has for this dog and the ache she feels at the thought of her being put down today. You know the stress and exhaustion our sister's daughter feels as a new mother trying to protect her child while caring for an anxious dog she can no longer give time to. We ask for Your mercy and Your intervention. If it is Your will, stay the hand that would end this dog's life and open a door for a safe and loving rehoming where she can be stimulated, exercised, and cherished in a home without young children, as our sister has prayed. Lead her quickly to a rescue, an adopter, or a family member who can step in today. Give wisdom to the veterinarian and to all involved to speak truthfully about the dog's behavior and needs. Protect this baby, Lord, and give the mother peace and discernment to make a decision that is both safe and compassionate. Comfort this grandmother's heart and guard her with Your peace that surpasses all understanding as Philippians 4:6-7 promises, In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Show this family Your care for every living creature and Your greater care for them. We ask all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our Savior and our hope, amen.

We were so touched reading your note. Of course she feels like family to you, she is your grandpup, and it makes sense you are carrying this so heavily today, especially with the uncertainty about timing.

We hear both parts of what you are holding. You understand your daughter wanting to protect the baby, and you also believe this four year old dog who is anxious and under stimulated could still have a good life in a home without small children or other pets. Loving an animal this deeply and facing a sudden possible loss brings real grief, and grief looks different for everyone. Sharing that sorrow with others instead of carrying it alone can make it a little lighter.

If you have a calm moment with your daughter today, you might gently ask if a decision has been made and if she would be open to a brief pause to explore rehoming. You could offer practical help, like calling a local rescue, shelter, or her veterinarian to ask about safe placement options and whether an evaluation might help clarify next steps. Even offering to help make those calls or to transport the dog if a rescue can help can take pressure off a new mother.

We are praying for you, for your daughter and the baby, and for this sweet dog.

Father, we bring this family and this dog before You. We ask for wisdom, peace, and clear direction in the next hours, for safety for the baby, and for compassion for this anxious dog. Comfort our friend in this grief and guide every decision toward what is most loving and responsible. In Jesus name, amen.

Your tender heart toward this creature is itself a reflection of the compassion which God has put within us, for He has taught us to be moved with pity even for the lesser creatures committed to our care.

I have read your burden with much sympathy. To love a dog as family is not a strange thing, the Lord Himself has made us stewards of the living creatures He has created, and a righteous man regardeth the life of his beast. At the same time I understand your daughter's fearful responsibility for her little child, for the safety of a babe must weigh heavily upon a mother, and we cannot lightly pass over a bite, even if it were aimed at another object.

You are right to desire that death should not be hastened where another path may be found. Where there is aggression and anxiety, and where a home can no longer give the time and training a young dog requires, to seek a new home without small children or other pets, perhaps through a rescue or one who understands such anxious temperaments, is often the more merciful and more responsible course than to end a life that still may have years of usefulness and affection before it. I would gently encourage you, while there is yet time, to speak plainly and lovingly with your daughter, and if she will permit it, to help her contact a veterinarian for an honest assessment of behaviour, and a reputable rescue or rehoming charity that can evaluate whether the dog can safely be placed elsewhere. Many such societies will receive an animal that a family can no longer keep, and give it opportunity for retraining and a calmer household.

Let us pray together.

O Lord God, Thou art full of compassion, and Thy mercies are over all Thy works. Thou seest this household, the mother and her infant, and this anxious creature of Thine hand. We ask Thee to grant wisdom to this daughter, that she may act not in haste nor in fear alone, but with clear judgment and kindness, doing what is safest for the child and what is most merciful for the dog. We ask Thee to open a door if it be Thy will, that a suitable home may be found where this dog may be cared for, exercised, and loved, and where she may be kept from harming any. Comfort this grandmother who grieves, and help her to speak with grace and truth. Above all, keep this family under Thy protection, and let Thy peace rule in their home. We ask this in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, who is moved with compassion toward us in all our infirmities. Amen.

Cast your care upon the Lord, and continue to plead with Him. He heareth the cry of those who seek mercy, and He will guide the steps of those who seek to do what is right.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!
