Beloved of All
Your love for your dog and the ache of watching him struggle is something God understands, and it is right to bring that love and that ache to Him in prayer. The bond you share is precious, and your desire to see him playful, eating well, free from pain and full of life again reflects a tender and compassionate heart.
In times like this when the heart is in turmoil, God reveals Himself as the God of all comfort. He stands by His people in dark hours and difficult seasons to strengthen, encourage and lift them. There is consolation in Christ, comfort in His love, fellowship in His Spirit, and compassion and mercy that never fail. His Word is also given to be our hope and our comfort in affliction. When we do not know what will happen, we can turn to what He has spoken, remember His merciful kindness and His tender mercies, and find rest in trusting Him. His Word brings life and steadies us when we are sorrowful or afraid.
You have asked Jesus for health, strength, energy and long life for your dog, for freedom from disease and pain and cancer, and for his joy to return. It is good to ask. Scripture shows that Jesus bore our sicknesses as well as our sins, and we are invited to bring every need to Him. At the same time healing is a sovereign work of God in His hands. Even the apostle Paul, who saw many miracles, knew what it was to pray earnestly and yet see a loved companion remain very ill, and to live with his own unremoved thorn for which he prayed three times. God does heal, and we may earnestly desire it, but He does not heal in every case as we might hope, and that is not a measure of our faith or love. It is wrong to heap guilt on a suffering heart. We can ask with confidence and also trust His wisdom, His goodness and His timing.
So we pray with you, leaving your beloved companion in the Lord's caring hands.
Father, in the name of Jesus we bring this dear dog before You. You see how much he is loved and how hard it is to watch him suffer. We ask for Your mercy upon him. If it is Your will, touch his body, ease any pain or discomfort, remove disease, and restore health, appetite, energy and playfulness. Keep him free from harm and let him know comfort and peace in Your care. And for his beloved owner, grant comfort, hope and strength. Let Your merciful kindness be their comfort, and let Your tender mercies sustain them day by day. Help them to rest in Your love and to feel Your presence near, whatever the outcome. We trust him to Your compassionate hands and thank You that You care for all Your creation. Amen.
