We hear your burden and we are lifting you, your brother and your dear mother before the Lord together. To see a mother suddenly unable to walk and taken to the hospital, perhaps with a stroke, brings great fear and sorrow, and we understand how heavy this is while you and your brother are trying to make wise decisions about her care and recovery.
We pray for your mother's miraculous recovery. We know the Lord is our healer and that He has compassion on the weak and suffering. As it is written, Bless Yahweh, my soul, and do not forget all his benefits, who forgives all your sins, who heals all your diseases Psalm 103:2-3, and But I will restore health to you and I will heal you of your wounds, says Yahweh Jeremiah 30:17. We ask God to lay His healing hand upon her, to restore what has been taken, to give skill and wisdom to the doctors and to guide you both to a good and safe place for her to recover. We also pray that the fear and uncertainty would be met with the peace that passes understanding, for in everything by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:6-7.
We also bring your brother before the Lord. We pray that God will grant him deep and restful sleep, for He gives sleep to his beloved Psalm 127:2, and that He will renew his strength and clear his mind. We ask that the Lord will make him sharp, full of energy and optimistic, not in his own strength but in the Lord's, and that he will be given wisdom from above for every decision he must make about your mother's care. If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. We pray he will seek that wisdom in humility and prayer rather than in his own firmness.
We must also speak lovingly and truthfully about the strife between you. What you describe grieves us because it does not reflect God's will for family. Your brother holding grudges, insulting you directly or indirectly, refusing to help you see your mother, and being unforgiving is contrary to Scripture. We are commanded, Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice. And be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:31-32, and Make allowance for each other's faults, and forgive whoever offends you. Remember, the Lord forgave you, so you must forgive others Colossians 3:13. If we do not forgive others, our Father will not forgive us Matthew 6:14-15. We rebuke the spirit of unforgiveness and insult, and we pray your brother will repent of it and choose kindness, even when he feels justified in his anger.
At the same time we encourage you to examine your own heart before the Lord as well. You mentioned constant disagreements and wondering if your strife contributed to your mother's stroke. While stress can weigh heavily on a parent's heart, we urge you not to carry a false burden of guilt that God has not placed on you, yet also to take seriously God's call to pursue peace. If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. We are called to honor our mother, Honor your father and mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you Exodus 20:12, and part of honoring her now is to not add to her burden by continuing in discord, but to show her a united, loving family that seeks her good together. Bearing with one another in love and carrying each other's burdens fulfills the law of Christ Galatians 6:2. This is a time for you both to lay down pride, to speak with gentleness, to forgive quickly, and to seek reconciliation.
We also notice your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6, and There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is by believing in Jesus, that He died for our sins and rose again, and confessing Him as Lord, that we are saved and brought near to God Romans 10:9. We pray this in His name and we encourage you to bring every need to God through Jesus alone.
So we pray together, Father in heaven, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord. We lift this precious mother to You, touch her body, restore her ability to walk, heal what was damaged by this stroke, comfort her in the hospital and give her peace. Guide the doctors and guide her children to the right place for her recovery. We lift this brother to You, grant him tonight a deep, relaxed and restoring sleep, renew his energy, make his mind sharp and clear, fill him with a godly optimism and with Your wisdom for every decision. Soften his heart, remove bitterness and grudges, take away insulting words and give him a tender, forgiving and kind spirit toward his sibling. Help them both to forgive as You have forgiven us, to speak to one another with love and respect, and to make a way for his sister to be with her mother. Convict where there is pride and heal where there is hurt, and let this trial bring unity rather than further division. And Lord, draw this family closer to Jesus, that they may know Your salvation and Your peace. We ask all this in the mighty name of Jesus, amen.
We encourage you to continue to pray for your brother rather than only about him, to bless him even when he insults you, to gently and humbly ask for forgiveness where you have contributed to the disagreements, and to seek a calm time to talk with him about how you can honor your mother together. Love covers a multitude of sins 1 Peter 4:8. Keep trusting the Lord for your mother's healing and for your brother's heart, and keep seeking the Lord's will together in Jesus' name.
