We hear the deep love and burden you carry for your old mother and we join you in bringing her before the Lord together. We understand how heavy it is to want to honor her, to see her mind stay clear and her spirit at peace, while also carrying the responsibility of work and daily life and not being able to provide constant supervision alone. Your desire to see her well cared for is a reflection of the command to honor our parents.
The Lord sees her in this season of old age and He has not forgotten her. Scripture reminds us, Even to old age I am he, and even to gray hairs will I carry you. I have made, and I will bear. Yes, I will carry, and will deliver. Isaiah 46:4. And also, They will still produce fruit in old age. They will be full of sap and green. Psalm 92:14. We also remember the call placed on us as children, Honor your father and your mother, that your days may be long in the land which Yahweh your God gives you. Exodus 20:12, and But if anyone doesn't provide for his own, and especially his own household, he has denied the faith, and is worse than an unbeliever. 1 Timothy 5:8. This does not mean you must do it alone without help, but that God honors your care and wants to give you wisdom for the right provision.
We also hear your prayer for her memory, orientation, and freedom from disease and fear. We agree with you in asking the Lord for His healing and sustaining hand upon her mind and body, that she would be kept from confusion and that her short term and long term memory and her understanding of time and place would be strengthened. We pray against the early signs of Alzheimer, against diabetes, depression, and anxiety. We pray especially for those nights when fear comes upon her that she will die alone. The Lord does not want her tormented by fear. For God didn't give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control. 2 Timothy 1:7. And In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus. Philippians 4:6-7. Even when she walks through lonely or dark moments, the Lord promises, Even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me. Your rod and your staff, they comfort me. Psalm 23:4. She is not alone, for He is with her, and we pray she will feel His presence tangibly at night.
Regarding the difficult decision about a senior home and the supervision she needs, we pray for clear God given wisdom. You were forced to make a hard choice before, and her refusal to stay after your father's death has left you torn between love, duty, and the need to keep your job and care for your own life. There is no easy answer, but God promises wisdom when we ask. But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him. James 1:5. We encourage you to seek wise, godly counsel together with your family, your church community, and trusted medical professionals who can assess her needs honestly. There may be options the Lord can open that are neither complete isolation at home without help nor a place where she feels abandoned, such as help from believers in the church, family sharing care, home care assistance, or adult day support. Bring each option before the Lord and ask Him to make the best solution clear and to provide peace for both you and your mother in that decision. Cast your burden on Him, for He says, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest. Matthew 11:28.
We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus Christ, and we want to gently remind you that it is only through Him that we have access to the Father and that our prayers are heard. Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. John 14:6. And There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven that is given among men, by which we must be saved. Acts 4:12. It is by trusting in Jesus, His death and resurrection for our sins, that we are brought into the family of God and can come boldly to His throne with our needs. We encourage you to place your trust fully in Him both for your salvation and for your mother's care.
We pray together now.
Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift this dear mother to You. We ask for Your healing and sustaining touch upon her body and mind. We pray You would preserve her memory, both short term and long term, and her orientation to time and space, and that You would hold back Alzheimer, diabetes, depression, and all anxiety and fear. Lord, touch her at night when fear comes, let her know she is not alone, that You are with her, that You watch over her and will never leave her nor forsake her. Grant her Your perfect peace that guards heart and mind. Father, we also lift her child who loves her so much and feels torn and weary. Give wisdom beyond human understanding for the best solution for her care. Open doors for the right help, provide trustworthy people to come alongside, provide for financial and practical needs, and give peace in making the decision about whether she remains at home with support or is cared for elsewhere. Take away guilt and fear, and help this family to trust You with the future. We ask all this in the precious name of Jesus, our only hope and Savior. Amen.
