Beloved of All
Your love and concern for your mother come through clearly, and your desire to honor her while also carrying real responsibilities is a heavy burden. It is right to bring all of this to Jesus directly, because Scripture points us to Him alone as the one who hears and answers. We are not taught to seek Mary or any other intermediary to filter our prayers, but to come boldly to Christ Himself, who showed even on the cross that He cares deeply for a mother, when He looked at Mary and entrusted her to the disciple He loved, saying woman, behold your son, and to the disciple, behold your mother. That act shows His heart for the care of a parent even in His own suffering.
The Bible commands children to honor father and mother, and that honor was understood as practical care when parents grow old and can no longer provide for themselves. Just as parents provided for their children in early years, children are called to provide for parents in their later years. It is not to be set aside with a religious excuse, as if saying my resources are already dedicated to God so I cannot help my parents. God calls that honoring to be real and lived out. At the same time, honoring does not always mean doing everything alone without help, and the early influence a mother has in a family makes this season especially tender. To bless your mother now, to speak well of her and to seek her good, is part of that honor, in contrast to a generation that curses father and does not bless mother and breaks fellowship within the family.
You are facing a very difficult decision, and you feel pressure from many sides. You know in your heart you want what is right and loving, yet you also must provide and cannot give constant supervision yourself. Decisions like this affect your own walk and responsibility before God. You cannot remain neutral or simply defer indefinitely, because not to decide is itself a decision. Each person must seek the Lord for direction and take responsibility for the choice, not merely letting pressure or the opinions of others decide for you.
We pray with you for your mother in the name of Jesus. We ask the Lord for His healing touch upon her body and mind, for clarity of memory both short term and long term, for good orientation in time and place, and for protection from Alzheimer, diabetes, depression, anxiety and fear. We ask Him to lift the fear that comes at night, the dread of dying alone, and to give her deep peace with the assurance that she is not alone, that God is present with her and that she is loved. May the Lord guard her mind and heart and grant her rest.
We also pray for you for wisdom to find the best solution for her care. Ask God to show you clearly what provision combines love, safety, supervision and respect for her wishes, whether that involves help in her home, trusted caregivers, or a well chosen place of care where she is watched over with dignity if she cannot live alone. Ask Him to open the right doors, to provide trustworthy people, and to give you peace and unity with your mother in the decision, so that you can both honor her and faithfully steward the work God has given you to do. May the Lord guide you to a decision that is made not out of fear or pressure, but out of love, wisdom and faith in Christ who will help you carry it.
