more quality time with Jesus Christ

We rejoice with you in this holy desire to spend more and more quality time with our Lord Jesus Christ, for this is the very heart of our faith and the source of all joy and strength. It is a beautiful thing that you long to draw closer to Him, and we join you in asking our Heavenly Father to deepen this communion.

The Scriptures encourage us in this pursuit. James 4:8 tells us Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you. Psalm 27:4 says One thing I have asked of Yahweh, that I will seek after, that I may dwell in Yahweh’s house all the days of my life, to see Yahweh’s beauty, and to inquire in his temple. And our Lord Himself modeled this for us, as Mark 1:35 shows Early in the morning, while it was still dark, he rose up and went out, and departed into a deserted place, and prayed there. We are also reminded in Matthew 6:33 to seek first God’s Kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be added to you, and in John 15:4 to remain in Him, Remain in me, and I in you. As the branch can’t bear fruit by itself unless it remains in the vine, so neither can you, unless you remain in me.

We pray together with you now. Heavenly Father, we come before Your throne of grace in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we thank You for putting this hunger for Your presence in our dear fellow believer’s heart. Father, we ask that You help us all to guard and prioritize quiet, undistracted time with You each day. Teach us to be still and know that You are God as Psalm 46:10 says, to sit at the feet of Jesus like Mary did and to delight in Your Word which is a lamp to our feet. Draw us by Your Holy Spirit into deeper prayer, worship, and meditation on Your Word. Remove distractions, weariness, and busyness that pull us away, and give us discipline and joy in seeking Your face. Fill this time with Your peace, Your voice, and Your transforming presence, that we may be conformed more and more to the image of Christ and bear much fruit for Your glory. We ask all of this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, amen.

We encourage you to continue to set apart a specific time and place each day to meet with Him, even as Jesus did early in the morning. Come with an open Bible, a praying heart, and a willingness to listen as well as speak. He longs for fellowship with you even more than you long for Him, and He will surely bless and honor the time you give to Him.

We are so thankful for the desire you shared, to spend more quality time with the Lord. That longing to be with Him is a good and healthy sign of His work in your life, and we are glad to pray with you for it to grow.

We have found that time with Jesus grows best when it is not left to chance or to how we feel that day. It helps to treat it as a normal part of walking with Christ, not something only for the especially disciplined. A simple routine can make us stable, not stale, and it takes pressure off having to figure it out fresh each morning.

One small step that often helps is to choose a consistent time and place, even just fifteen minutes at first, and keep it simple. Many find it helpful to begin with a brief prayer inviting His presence, then reading slowly in His Word and turning what you read into prayer back to Him. If you miss a day, just begin again the next day without guilt. The point is relationship, not performance.

We are praying for you to know more of His nearness as you seek Him.

Father, we thank You for drawing this heart toward Yourself. We ask that You would make a way for unhurried time with You each day and give joy in Your presence. Help our friend to hear Your voice and to walk closely with Jesus, growing in love and likeness to Him day by day. In the name of Jesus Christ we pray, amen.

It is a blessed and holy desire which the Lord Himself has surely kindled in your heart, to spend more and more quality time with Him. One objective of Christ's religion is to bring all His disciples into union and communion with its great Founder, that they may have fellowship with the Father, and with His Son, Jesus Christ.

This fellowship is first a communion of faith, the communion which we have by faith in Jesus Christ, for we stand before God in Christ and are brought into living union with Him. He dwells in us and we dwell in Him. And then there is a communion of conversation, which is prayer. In prayer, if we pray aright, we talk to God, and if we pray with faith, Christ talks with us. Prayer talks with God, yea, it walks with Him, and he who is much in prayer will hold very much fellowship with Jesus Christ.

If you would know more of this quality time with Him, seek Him in secret. Your heart must speak with God in secret, whether in the early morning before daybreak as your Master did, or in the quiet moments of the day. There, through His Word and by meditation and thanksgiving, we speak with our risen Lord and He speaks with us. Do not bind Christ with cords by leaving His Word shut up and unread. Untie the cords and let it have its liberty. Commune with it often, for there His thoughts become our thoughts, and we are brought into agreement with Him, without which we cannot walk together.

Let us pray for you now.

Heavenly Father, we thank You for this longing soul who desires to be nearer to Christ. In the name of Jesus Christ Your Son, we ask that You help Your child to spend more and more quality time with You. Draw him into deeper fellowship with Jesus, to know the sweetness of that communion of faith and of conversation. Teach him to wait upon You in prayer and in the Word, to meditate upon Christ Himself, the personal, living, loving Jesus, and to walk with Him through all the hours of the day. Keep him steadfast, not carried about, but rooted in Christ who is the same yesterday and today and forever, that his life may be hid with Christ in God and bear fruit for Your glory. Grant that his fellowship with Jesus may be as perpetual as Christ's own communion with You. We ask this in the precious name of Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.

May the Lord grant you grace to keep this holy appointment, and may you find that to look unto Jesus and to abide in Him is better than all else, for there is room in Him for your largest desires.
