Income

Dhitlor

Good and Faithful Servant
Please pray for me as I really need more income and am considering changing my schedule at my job to get more hours. The downside is that my job is very stressful and difficult so adding more hours might only add to burnout this job is giving me. The good side is that I could possibly be off more days in the week if increase my schedule which would offset the stress possibly. Please pray that I would have wisdom about this. Thank you.

We come before the Lord with your request, lifting up your need for increased income and the difficult decision before you regarding your work schedule. Father, we know that You are the Provider of all things, and we trust in Your faithfulness to meet every need according to Your riches in glory in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:19). You have promised that if we seek first Your kingdom and Your righteousness, all these things, including our daily needs, will be added to us (Matthew 6:33). We ask that You grant wisdom and clarity as this decision is weighed, that it may align with Your perfect will.

Lord, we recognize the stress and burnout this job has brought, and we pray for Your peace to guard your heart and mind in Christ Jesus (Philippians 4:7). The weight of exhaustion can cloud judgment, so we ask that You would renew your strength, even as You have promised to those who wait upon You (Isaiah 40:31). Help you to discern whether increasing your hours is the path You have set before you or if there is another opportunity, one that may bring provision without such a heavy burden, that You have prepared.

We also lift up the potential benefits of this change, trusting that You can use even difficult circumstances for good (Romans 8:28). If this adjustment allows for more rest and time in Your presence, we pray that it would be a blessing rather than a curse. But if it leads to further strain, we ask that You would close this door and open another that is better suited to Your plan for your life.

Father, we rebuke the spirit of anxiety and fear that may be pressing in, for You have not given us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and a sound mind (2 Timothy 1:7). We declare that Your yoke is easy and Your burden is light (Matthew 11:30), and we trust that You will lead you into the path of life, where there is fullness of joy in Your presence (Psalm 16:11).

We pray for divine favor in your workplace, that your labor would not be in vain (1 Corinthians 15:58). If it is Your will, open doors for promotion, better opportunities, or even a new season of work that aligns with Your purpose. But above all, we ask that You would be glorified in this season, whether in want or in plenty, for we know that our true treasure is found in You alone (Matthew 6:21).

In the mighty name of Jesus, we pray, believing that You hear us and will answer according to Your perfect will. Amen.

We hear the tension in what you’re describing, needing more income, but knowing that adding hours to an already draining job could just trade one kind of stress for another. It’s a real dilemma, and we’re glad you’re not charging ahead without weighing it carefully.

One thing that can help is to lay out exactly what you expect to gain or lose. You’ve already named the big ones: more income and possibly extra days off on one side, and the risk of deeper burnout on the other. Try giving each of those a bit more weight, maybe on a simple piece of paper, and ask yourself what you genuinely need most right now: the financial breathing room, or the emotional and physical margin to stay healthy. Sometimes the smartest choice is the one that keeps you whole for the long haul, even if it doesn’t fix the money picture immediately.

If you do consider the schedule change, think about a short trial run if that’s possible, or at least lining up a few specific ways you’ll actively recover on those extra days off, real rest, not just errands. Burnout tends to creep in when we don’t replenish regularly, so protecting that recovery time matters.

Lord, thank you for this person’s desire to provide and to choose wisely. Grant them clarity as they look at this decision from every angle, and a quiet confidence about which step is truly best. Guard them from exhaustion, and meet their financial needs in ways they may not have yet imagined. In Jesus’ name, amen.

The trial you now face, weighing heavier hours against a heavier heart, is one that requires a wisdom not found in the miner's deep shaft, but in the fear of the Lord. Men search diligently, as Job's friends did, for a neat resolution to suffering, often hewing out broken cisterns of human reason. Yet the path of wisdom is a track untrodden by the vulture's keen eye, a way hidden from the natural understanding. To look merely to the addition of hours, counting the coins before they are minted, measuring the stress against the days of rest, is like the fly passing judgment on the elephant. You cannot see the end from the beginning, but He can. Your duty is not to perfect a schedule by your own wit, but to wait upon the Lord who appoints all your days, believing that when your change comes, it will be a change for the better in all respects.

Consider the image of Job amid the ashes, scraping himself with a potsherd; his glory was not fresh in him. Yet in all that bewilderment, he sinned not, nor charged God foolishly, though his own friends darkened counsel by words without knowledge. You speak of potential burnout, and that is a sorrow which may indeed be a weariness of the flesh. Yet do not let the exhaustion of the body dictate the conclusions of the spirit. That very lowness may be appointed to teach you what Job learned through his bodily feebleness and his friends’ accusations: that our statements often darken wisdom by words without knowledge. We say, “I perfectly understand this matter,” but we define and scheme with a pride that must be catechized and silenced. The Lord may be bidding you hold your peace, that it may be your wisdom. The stress you feel is not necessarily a sign to retreat, nor is the need for income a sign to advance at all costs; both are the tools in the hand of a Refiner who is purging away your dross.

True change, remember, is not a mere shifting of hours. Repentance itself is no bare change of mind, but a radical upheaval. And so, this Providence calls for a change of posture more than a change of schedule. Instead of measuring your sorrow against your wage, learn to weep with those who have no wage, to mourn with the poor and the fatherless in spirit; let your charity of heart be poured out in prayer. It was when Job prayed for his offending friends, those very men who had vexed his soul, that the Lord turned his captivity. That is a strange and heavenly alchemy. When you cease calculating how to spare yourself and begin to intercede for others, the Lord often sends a fresh anointing and a double portion where the spoiler had ravaged. Wait, not as one who idles, but as a humble waiter who watches the Master’s hand. Trust the Just One even when the boils of trouble multiply, for He brings us to the house appointed for all the living, yet even there the hope of the Home-going cancels the dread. Go now and cast this burden upon Him, for if He upheld Job in the whirlwind and the loss, He can surely support you in this perplexing choice.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

It is no small matter to consider how to order one's life so as to provide for the body without wounding the soul. You speak of adding hours to your labor, yet you fear the fire of burnout. Truly, this calls for wisdom, and not the wisdom of this world which reasons only from profit and loss. For the wisdom of God is far mightier than the wisdom of man; He has made foolish the wisdom of the wise, and the Cross itself, which seems folly, is the power of God. Seek then that wisdom from above, through earnest prayer. For have you not heard how much prayers have profited? Even for the friends of Job, God said, "He shall pray for you, and your sin shall be forgiven you." There is need, aye, and need of much prayer. But pray not with a doubting heart, asking only to have your desire, but that you may be renewed in the spirit of your mind, to discern what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God.

Consider that your job, your time, your very strength are a stewardship from the Master. He requires both faithfulness and wisdom: faithfulness, that you purloin nothing nor waste His goods without aim or fruit; wisdom, that you know how to dispense them as is fit. If you add hours only for more income, yet neglect the care of your soul and body, you would be misspending what is entrusted to you. For what would it profit to gain the whole world and lose your own soul? But if a change of schedule might grant you more days of rest, and that rest restore you to serve God with a cheerful spirit, it could be a wise use of what you have been given. Still, do not trust in your own reasoning. The wisdom without is full of vainglory and leads to folly; we who have Christ need not the wisdom of Plato, for He is made unto us wisdom from God. So bring this matter before the Lord with fasting and prayer, and He will direct your steps. Let your request be for a right judgment, that you may be both a faithful and a wise steward, neither shirking your duty nor burning up your strength in vain anxiety.

It makes sense that you are wrestling with this decision. The need for more income is real, and the desire to provide is not wrong. At the same time, the stress you describe is not a small thing. The body and the mind can only carry so much, and you are wise to weigh the cost of adding more hours to an already difficult job.

The dilemma reminds me of a truth woven throughout Scripture: our circumstances do not tell the whole story about God's care. Sometimes we feel pressed into a corner, just as Job did when every earthly comfort was stripped away. His friends insisted that his suffering must be the result of some hidden failure, some sin he needed to confess. But their counsel, though logical, was not true. Not every hardship is God's punishment. Sometimes He allows the pressure to drive us deeper into dependence on Him, not to crush us.

So let me gently ask: as you think about earning more, what is the deepest need behind that desire? The Lord knows you need daily bread. He does not fault you for wanting to meet your obligations. Yet Scripture also warns against wearing ourselves out to heap up wealth when others around us are also hurting. I do not know your full situation, but I would urge you to bring your motives before the Lord openly. He is not afraid of your honest questions.

Wisdom is what you are asking for, and that is a request God loves to answer. The fear of the Lord, a quiet reverence and trust in His character, is where wisdom begins. That means being willing to lay both options before Him without demanding a clear sign, and being willing to wait on His peace to guide you. The added days off might seem like a solution to offset the stress, but if the hours themselves are draining you dry, even a different schedule may not heal the deeper fatigue. Burnout is not just about time; it is about the condition of the soul.

Remember also that Jesus Himself is the mediator Job cried out for, the one who stands between God and man, laying His hand on both. He knows the weight of exhausting labor and the pressure of daily needs. You can pour out your trouble to Him, not as a hypocrite hiding some secret sin, but as a child bringing a heavy burden to a Father who is both just and merciful. You do not need to have all the answers before you move. You can take the next small step in the direction you sense He is leading, trusting that He will either confirm it or gently close the door.

Lay this decision before the Lord in concrete terms. Ask Him to give you a Spirit-led sense of whether adding hours will truly bring you relief or simply multiply the stress. And if the path forward remains unclear, sometimes the most faithful thing is to stay where you are until He makes the next step plain. His provision is not limited by your schedule. He fed His people in the wilderness with a daily portion, just enough for the day. May He grant you the same daily trust, and with it the wisdom to know when to press forward and when to rest.
