Beloved of All
I am carrying a deep hurt and facing a problem in my relationship with my brother, ###. My desire is to forgive and for the relationship to be restored. He is perhaps the most difficult person, and this the most challenging relationship, I have ever known. Yet, this broken relationship and the hurt in my heart stand as a barrier to drawing closer to God. Let us pray that God helps me to truly forgive completely—freeing me from hurt and negative thoughts—so that my heart may be pure and at peace, in the name of Jesus Christ! Let us pray that God grants me wisdom and intervenes to resolve this issue, aligning the relationship with His will, in the name of Jesus Christ! Let us pray that God heals my heart and soul and protects me from further hurt, in the name of Jesus Christ! Thank you... God bless you!

We join with you in this deep hurt you are carrying over the broken relationship with your brother and we thank you for sharing this burden so openly and for your desire to forgive and to see this relationship restored according to God's will. We hear how difficult this person has been and how challenging this relationship is, and how the pain in your heart has felt like a barrier between you and the Lord. We want to encourage you that God sees this hurt and He is near to you even now, for Yahweh is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18, and He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3.

Your desire to forgive completely is exactly what God calls us to, and it is the path to freedom and peace. We are commanded to be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:32 and bearing with one another, and forgiving each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do Colossians 3:13. Jesus also taught us, For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses Matthew 6:14-15. This shows us that forgiveness is not a feeling but an act of obedience that releases us from bitterness and negative thoughts, lest any root of bitterness springing up trouble you, and many be defiled by it Hebrews 12:15. Forgiving does not mean that the hurt was not real or that trust is instantly rebuilt, but it means we release the debt to God and choose to love as Christ loved us, even seventy times seven Matthew 18:21-22.

We also understand your longing for restoration and for wisdom to know how to move forward. We are reminded, If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. Restoration is our hope and we pray for it, yet it requires the willing heart of both people. As you forgive, you do your part before God and you leave the outcome in His hands, trusting Him to work in your brother's heart as well. For drawing closer to God, we cling to the promise, Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you James 4:8. Your hurt does not have to keep you from Him, instead bring that hurt directly to Him and let His peace guard your heart, for the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7. And when you need wisdom for what to say, when to speak, when to set healthy boundaries to protect your heart while still walking in love, we claim the promise, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5.

We pray together with you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear one to Your throne of grace. Lord, You see the deep hurt and the pain carried in the heart and soul over this relationship with our brother. We ask You to heal that broken heart and to bind up every wound. Wash away bitterness and negative thoughts and fill this heart with Your forgiveness and Your love, so that forgiveness may be complete and freeing, just as You have forgiven us in Christ. Grant Your perfect peace to guard this heart and mind. Father, grant abundant wisdom for every step, every word and every decision concerning this brother. Intervene in this relationship according to Your will, soften both hearts, remove what hinders, and where it is possible bring true reconciliation and restoration that honors You. Protect this dear one from further hurt, set a hedge of Your grace around the heart and soul, and draw this child ever closer to You, removing every barrier, that the heart may be pure and at peace before You. We ask all of this in the mighty and only saving name of Jesus Christ, through whom we have access to You and healing and forgiveness. Amen.

Thank you for sharing this hurt so honestly. We can hear how much you want to be free of the weight you carry and how much you long to draw closer to God without this barrier between you and your brother.

One thing that has helped many is understanding that forgiveness often happens in two layers. One is a decision, a quiet choice before God to let go of seeking payback and to wish good rather than harm, even while the hurt still stings. The other is emotional, where over time the resentment and fear slowly loosen as compassion and peace grow in their place. Feeling the sting return after you have decided to forgive does not mean you have failed, it often means the emotional part is still healing and needs time. Forgiveness and reconciliation are also different. You can forgive before God even while restoration of the relationship depends on both of you and on God's timing.

It may help to name that decision clearly in prayer, and then when painful thoughts return, gently reaffirm it and hand the hurt back to God instead of rehearsing it. If you have a trusted pastor or mature friend, sharing the burden with one person can also keep you from carrying it alone.

Father, we lift our brother to You. Heal his heart and soul, quiet the negative thoughts, and give him wisdom for each next conversation with his brother. Guard him from further hurt and lead this relationship according to Your will. Bring purity and peace to his heart as he walks with You, in Jesus name, amen.

May God in Jesus' name answer your prayer request according to God's perfect love, wisdom, will, timing, grace, and mercy. God is so in love with you. Be Encouraged!

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your burden has been brought before the Lord and we join our hearts with yours in prayer. You have spoken plainly of a deep hurt and a most challenging relationship with your brother, and of how this wound has become a barrier to drawing closer to God. The desire you express, to forgive completely and to see the relationship restored according to His will, is itself a work of grace, for the soul that longs to be pure and at peace is already listening to the voice of the Spirit.

Hear first what the Word declares, there is forgiveness with God. It is a divine forgiveness, I even I am He that blotteth out thy transgressions. It is a surprising forgiveness, so great that God Himself seems to marvel that such sins should be remitted, and it is a complete forgiveness. Though you have nothing to pay, your creditor in Heaven has released the debt entirely. This forgiveness is not for a few sins or for sins up to a certain date, but there is forgiveness, without limit, for whatever your sins may have been. And there is forgiveness now, at this moment, through Jesus Christ His Son, who died the Just for the unjust that He might bring us to God. As Martin Luther was told in his dark distress, believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself, and go your way in peace. The gifts and calling of God are without repentance, and whom He pardons He pardons absolutely and eternally.

Because we have in Him such a full and eternal forgiveness, we learn how to forgive as we have been forgiven. After such forgiveness as the Lord has bestowed on us, we should be wicked servants indeed if we were to take our brother by the throat and say, Pay me what thou owest. The most splendid vengeance you can have is to do good to them that do you evil and to speak well of them that speak ill of you. This does not mean the hurt was not real, but that the healing leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of our wounds. The least thing about Christ is healing, and those leaves can change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before. When the heart is stayed upon Him, He will keep it in perfect peace, peace, peace, because it trusts in Him. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within, and that peace yields a calm so deep that it can only be called the peace of God which passes all understanding.

Let us pray together.

O Lord our God, with whom there is forgiveness, we thank Thee that Thou hast revealed Thyself as One who pardons iniquity and delights in mercy. Look upon this wounded heart and soul that cries to Thee in the name of Jesus Christ. Grant true and complete forgiveness, not of the lips only but from the depths of the heart, freeing it from hurt and from every negative and bitter thought. Create a pure heart and renew a right spirit within, and let the peace of God keep heart and mind.

Grant wisdom, O generous Lawgiver, to know how to walk with wisdom toward a brother who is difficult to love. Intervene, we beseech Thee, in this broken relationship. If it be Thy will, restore it and align it to Thy holy purpose, and if there must be waiting, teach patience and love that seeks no revenge but overcomes evil with good. Heal the heart and soul as only Thou canst, and spread Thy healing leaves over every wound. Protect from further hurt, and guard the soul from hardness and despair. Let this trial become a sign of Thy pardoning love, that this God shall be our God forever and ever.

We ask all this trusting not in our own worth but in the merit of Jesus Christ our Lord, in whose name we pray. Amen.
