Beloved of All
I am carrying a deep hurt and facing a problem in my relationship with my brother, ###. My desire is to forgive and for the relationship to be restored. He is perhaps the most difficult person, and this the most challenging relationship, I have ever known. Yet, this broken relationship and the hurt in my heart stand as a barrier to drawing closer to God. Let us pray that God helps me to truly forgive completely—freeing me from hurt and negative thoughts—so that my heart may be pure and at peace, in the name of Jesus Christ! Let us pray that God grants me wisdom and intervenes to resolve this issue, aligning the relationship with His will, in the name of Jesus Christ! Let us pray that God heals my heart and soul and protects me from further hurt, in the name of Jesus Christ! Thank you... God bless you!

We hear the deep hurt you are carrying in your heart over this broken relationship with your brother and we join you in bringing it before the Lord. We understand how a difficult and challenging relationship, especially with family, can feel like a heavy barrier to drawing closer to God, and we commend your desire to forgive and to see restoration according to His will. The Lord sees your pain and your sincere desire for a pure heart and peace.

Scripture shows us that forgiveness is not only a gift we give to others but a necessary step for our own freedom and fellowship with God. Jesus taught, For if you forgive men their trespasses, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive men their trespasses, neither will your Father forgive your trespasses Matthew 6:14-15. We are also commanded to be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:32 and to bear with one another and forgive each other, if any man has a complaint against any, even as Christ forgave you, so you also do Colossians 3:13. This does not mean the hurt was not real or that reconciliation will be instant, but it means releasing the right to vengeance to God and choosing to let His grace cleanse our hearts from bitterness. Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice Ephesians 4:31. We also remember that restoration takes two hearts willing to move toward each other, and scripture gives wisdom here, If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18. Sometimes forgiveness is complete in our heart before the relationship is fully restored, and we must trust God with the outcome.

We also pray for the wisdom and healing you asked for. God promises, But if any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. And we know He is the healer of the brokenhearted, He heals the broken in heart, and binds up their wounds Psalm 147:3. The Lord is near to those who are of a broken heart, and saves those who are of a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. As you draw near to Him, He will draw near to you James 4:8, and His peace which surpasses all understanding will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus Philippians 4:7.

We pray together with you now.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we come before Your throne of grace on behalf of our dear one who is hurting. Lord, You see the pain, the negative thoughts, and the heaviness that this conflict with his brother has caused. We ask that You help him to truly forgive completely as You have forgiven us, not by his own strength but by the power of Your Holy Spirit. Wash his heart and make it pure, remove all bitterness and resentment, and fill him with Your peace that passes all understanding. Heal his heart and soul, Lord, bind up every wound and protect him from further hurt. Grant him heavenly wisdom to know how to speak, when to be silent, when to set healthy boundaries, and how to walk in love and truth. We ask that You intervene in this relationship according to Your perfect will. Soften both hearts, remove pride and misunderstanding, and if it is Your will, bring restoration and reconciliation that honors You. Let this trial draw him closer to You and not farther away, and let Your will be done in both lives. We trust You as our refuge and strength, and we thank You that You hear us because we pray in the precious name of Jesus Christ, our only Savior and mediator. Amen.

We encourage you to continue to bring this hurt daily to the Lord in prayer, to meditate on His Word, and to ask Him to search your heart and renew your mind. Forgiveness is often a daily choice to release the hurt to Jesus again and again until the feelings follow the obedience. Continue to be faithful to do what is up to you to live at peace, to speak the truth in love, and to entrust your brother and the outcome to God. He is faithful to complete the good work He has begun in you and to keep your heart in His perfect peace as you trust in Him.

We are grateful you shared this so honestly. Carrying a deep hurt from a brother is especially heavy, and when that relationship feels like the most difficult one you have known, it makes sense that your heart feels tired and that drawing close to God feels harder.

We hear your desire so clearly, to be free from the hurt and negative thoughts and to have peace again. One thing that has helped many people is understanding that forgiveness often happens in two parts. There is a decision we make to release the right to get even and to wish the other person well as someone made in God's image. Then there is the slower emotional healing, where feelings of resentment and fear gradually soften and are replaced by compassion. That second part usually takes time, and it is normal for painful feelings to still surface even after you have made the decision to forgive.

Reconciliation is a little different, because it takes both people choosing to rebuild trust together. You can pursue forgiveness in your own heart before God even while you seek wisdom about what a healthier relationship with your brother might look like.

A simple next step that many find steadying is to quietly reaffirm that decision when the hurt rises up. When a painful thought comes, pause and in your own words tell God you are again choosing to release this to Him and ask Him to tend to your heart in that moment.

Father, we lift our brother to You. You see this hurt and how much he wants a pure and peaceful heart before You. Heal what is wounded in his heart and soul and protect him from further harm. Give him wisdom for each interaction with his brother and guide that relationship according to Your will. Draw him closer to You and let him know Your nearness and peace. In Jesus' name, amen.

Your burden has been laid before the Lord, and it is a right and good desire that you have expressed, to be free from hurt and to forgive completely, that your heart may be pure and at peace before God.

There is a blessed order in the grace of God which you will find to be your comfort. First forgiveness, then healing. The poor man who was let down through the roof lay before Jesus hoping for both, and the Saviour spoke first to the deeper need, saying, Thy sins are forgiven thee. So it is with you. Your healing of heart and soul must begin at the fountain head. There is forgiveness with God, that He may be feared, and there is forgiveness for you, whatever your own sins and failures have been in this painful trial. Do as Luther did when in dark distress, when his brother said to him, I believe in the forgiveness of sins, now believe in the forgiveness of sins for yourself. Believe that for Christ's sake you are fully and eternally forgiven, for the gifts and calling of God are without repentance. He never plays fast and loose with men. When you know that you have in Him a full forgiveness, a divine and surprising and complete forgiveness, then the calm which follows will be that peace of God which passes all understanding.

And because you have been so forgiven, you are called to forgive even as God for Christ's sake hath forgiven you. This is the manner of the Lord's release. Every creditor shall release that which he hath lent to his brother, because it is called the Lord's release. After such forgiveness as the Lord has bestowed upon us, we should be wicked servants indeed if we were to take our brother by the throat and say, Pay me what thou owest. To forgive your brother is not to say that no wrong was done, nor to publish his fault, but to release the debt into the hands of Him who judges righteously, and to will good toward him still. This forgiveness is a continuous act, a daily grace, and God will help you to live in it, freeing you from bitter and negative thoughts which so easily beset the wounded heart.

You speak truly that this broken fellowship has become a barrier to drawing closer to God. A mind stayed upon Christ is kept in perfect peace, peace, peace, because it trusts in Him. The blood of Jesus whispers peace within, even in this dark world of sin, even with sorrows surging round. When your mind is stayed on Him, rather than on the hurt, He will keep you. And the very leaves of the tree of life are for the healing of the nations. The least thing about Christ is healing to the soul. He can change the life blood and make the nature other than it was before.

Let us pray together for what you have asked according to the will of God.

O Lord our God, Thou with whom there is forgiveness, we come through Jesus Christ Thy Son, the Just who died for the unjust to bring us to God. Grant to this wounded one a fresh and abiding sense of Thine own full pardon, that believing it for himself he may go his way in peace. Work in him the grace to forgive completely, as Thou for Christ's sake hast forgiven him, releasing every debt and freeing his heart from hurt and from every thought that would defile it. Grant him wisdom from above, which is pure and peaceable, to know how to walk before Thee and before his brother. Intervene Thou in this difficult relationship, and in Thy mercy align all things with Thy holy will. Heal his heart and his soul, and spread Thy keeping hand over him to protect him from further hurt. Keep his mind stayed upon Thee, that he may know perfect peace even while he waits upon Thy working. Hear us for Jesus Christ's sake, in whose name we ask it. Amen.

Be of good courage. He who has begun this good work of forgiving grace in you will not leave it unfinished. Look to Jesus, trust His finished work, and leave your brother and your own heart in His faithful hands.
