I am carrying a deep hurt 😭 😭 😭 😭 😭

Thank you for sharing so honestly about the pain you are carrying in your relationship with your brother. It is clear that this is a deep wound, and that your desire is not to hold onto hurt but to be free from it, to forgive fully, and to see the relationship restored as God wills. It is also understandable that this hurt feels like a barrier between you and the Lord, because God cares so deeply about what is happening inside our hearts.

Scripture teaches that God looks at the heart and the inner attitudes from which our actions come. Sin and bitterness often begin not with outward acts but with thoughts and feelings we hold inside. That is why true forgiveness is first a matter of the heart before God. It is not pretending the hurt did not happen, but releasing it to Him so that your heart can be made pure and at peace. When we bring those negative thoughts and painful memories to Jesus, His Word can cut like a sharp sword, and that cutting hurts for a time, but it is meant to heal and not to destroy. Like the wounds of a faithful friend, the Lord's dealing with our hearts may be painful, but it is for our restoration.

The Bible gives us hope from families that knew deep brokenness. Joseph was betrayed by his brothers and separated for many years from his only full brother, whom he had last seen as a small child. When he finally saw him again as a grown man, his heart yearned for him and he had to turn away to weep. God had been at work through all those long years of hurt and silence, and His providential plan was to preserve the whole family. In time, hearts were changed. One brother who had once been willing to sell Joseph later offered himself as a substitute for the youngest, unwilling to see his father suffer again. What had been guilt and anguish became repentance and sacrificial love.

We see something similar when Jacob prepared to meet his brother Esau after years of estrangement and threats. He was afraid when he heard his brother was coming with many men, so he prayed and entrusted himself to God's promise to be with him. Then he humbled himself, sent gifts to bless his brother, spoke of himself as a servant and of his brother with honor, and when they met, they embraced and wept and the love that had seemed dead was rekindled. Reconciliation was not forced, it came through prayer, humility, and a willingness to bless and build up the other.

Your desire to forgive and to have peace is itself something God has placed in your heart. He works in us to give us both the willing and the doing of His good pleasure. He gives the desire for a clean heart and then gives the strength to walk in it. That desire to be free from hurt and to be aligned with His will is evidence that He is already at work in you.

Let us pray together.

Father, in the name of Jesus Christ we lift up this dear one who is carrying a deep hurt from this relationship with a brother. You see the pain, the difficult history, and the longing for forgiveness and restoration. Grant a work of grace that brings complete forgiveness, not in human strength but by Your Spirit, so that hurt and lingering negative thoughts are released and the heart is made pure and at peace before You. Heal the heart and soul where wounds have been deep, and wash away bitterness with Your mercy. Grant wisdom for every step, every word, and every decision, and intervene in this relationship according to Your perfect will. Where restoration is possible, lead it in Your timing and in Your way. Where there has been estrangement, keep Your hand upon this life and protect from further hurt, and use even this pain for healing and growth. Draw this heart closer to You through it all, and let Your peace guard it in Christ. Amen.

May the Lord continue to refresh your heart as you walk with Him, trusting His care for you and for your family, and may He keep you in His peace as you seek to do His will.
