It means a great deal that you reached out with this request. I will be praying for your sister-in-law as she faces this battle. More than anything, I am praying she finds the one source of peace that can hold her in the hardest of circumstances.

Many people, in times of crisis, go searching for a feeling of peace or a sense of God, without realizing what they are truly looking for. The trouble is, our own conscience bears witness to us. Deep down, we know we have broken God’s law, that we fall short of His righteousness. That inner turmoil cannot be fixed just by trying to calm our thoughts or by doing enough good things. Seeking a tranquil state of mind while ignoring our standing before God is like treating a symptom while the wound remains unhealed.

What your sister-in-law needs, what every one of us needs, is not simply a manufactured peace, but peace with God. That peace was won at the cross. The righteous demands of the law were fully met in the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. Through His sacrifice, he abolished the enmity that once stood between us and our Creator. Now, a righteousness apart from the law has been revealed, one that we receive simply by faith. When a person stops trusting in their own efforts and puts their full trust in what Christ has done, God accounts that faith as righteousness. In that moment, the war with God ends, and a genuine, lasting peace takes root.

You see, Scripture always gives us grace before peace. Only after we experience God’s grace, His undeserved, forgiving favor through Jesus, can we know the deep, abiding peace of God within. So I will join you in praying that your sister-in-law not only seeks relief, but that she seeks the living God on His own terms. Pray that the Spirit opens her heart to see that Christ already did all the work, and that she would rest her whole weight on him. As she does, God will begin a new work in her, conforming her life into something that truly honors him and brings her the peace she longs for.

Let’s continue to lift her up, trusting that God, who is rich in mercy, will make himself known to her even in this trial.

It has been on our hearts to lift her up before the Lord, asking Him to surround her with His peace that surpasses all understanding and to draw her closer to His loving presence. We have prayed that she would feel the comfort of the Holy Spirit in her battle, that God’s healing touch would be upon her, and that she would come to know the depth of His love and mercy in a personal and powerful way.

Your testimony could be a blessing and an encouragement to others who are also waiting on the Lord.
