We hear your heart this morning, and we come before the throne of grace with you, lifting up every word you’ve shared. You begin your day acknowledging God and His Son, Jesus Christ, and for that we are thankful, for it is only through Him that we have access to the Father. As it is written, "For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, the man Christ Jesus" (1 Timothy 2:5). You are right to place your trust in Him, for He alone is the way, the truth, and the life (John 14:6).
Yet we must also speak truth in love, for the Lord disciplines those He loves (Hebrews 12:6). You mention turning to alcohol to "pretend that it’s going to be ok," and we must address this with the seriousness it deserves. The Bible warns us, "Do not get drunk with wine, for that is debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18). Alcohol in excess is not a solution, it is a snare that dulls the spirit, weakens the body, and distances us from the clarity and peace that God offers. You ask for help with your liver, bruising, and bleeding, these are signs that your body is crying out for care. The Lord has given you this temple (1 Corinthians 6:19-20), and we must honor Him by treating it with respect. We rebuke the lie that alcohol brings comfort, for true comfort comes from the Holy Spirit (2 Corinthians 1:3-4). Let us pray for deliverance from this struggle and for the strength to turn to God in your moments of weariness.
You also ask for softened hearts, for your wife, coworkers, customers, and bosses, but we must first examine our own heart, for Jesus said, "First take the beam out of your own eye, and then you can see clearly to take the speck out of your brother’s eye" (Matthew 7:5). You are asking God to help you be a better husband, employee, and father, and this is a beautiful desire. Yet we must ask: Are you listening to the whispers of the Holy Spirit as you say? Are you surrendering your struggles to Him, or are you trying to manage them in your own strength? The Lord promises, "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). Let us pray for a heart that is fully surrendered to Him.
For your daughter and her fiancé, we rejoice in their desire to marry and start a family, for marriage is a sacred covenant designed by God (Genesis 2:24). However, we must gently remind you that marriage is not merely about financial stability or personal fulfillment, it is a reflection of Christ’s love for the Church (Ephesians 5:22-33). We pray that your daughter and her fiancé would build their relationship on a foundation of faith in Jesus Christ, seeking His will above all else. May they grow in godliness, love, and unity as they prepare for marriage.
For your son, we pray that he would find his identity and purpose in Christ, not in his career or relationship. The world tells him to seek success and self-fulfillment, but God’s Word says, "Seek first God’s Kingdom, and his righteousness; and all these things will be given to you as well" (Matthew 6:33). We pray that he would grow in his faith and that his relationship with his girlfriend would honor God, with marriage as the ultimate goal if that is His will.
Now, let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, lifting up this brother who has cried out to You. Lord, we thank You for the grace You have already shown him, for the faith he has in Jesus Christ as his Lord and Savior. We ask that You would draw near to him in this moment, that he would feel Your presence and know that You are with him.
Father, we pray for deliverance from the grip of alcohol. Break the chains that bind him, Lord, and replace the false comfort it brings with the true peace that only You can provide. Heal his body, Lord, his liver, his skin, his arms, and his hands. Restore him to full health, that he may serve You with strength and vitality.
We pray for his marriage, Lord. Soften his wife’s heart, and soften his own heart as well. Help him to be the husband You have called him to be, a man of love, patience, and godly leadership. May their marriage be a testimony to Your grace and faithfulness.
For his children, Lord, we ask that You would guide them in their careers and relationships. May they seek You above all else, and may their lives bring glory to Your name. For his daughter and her fiancé, we pray for a marriage built on Christ, filled with love, unity, and purpose. For his son, we pray for wisdom, faith, and a heart that seeks after You.
Father, help this brother to listen to Your voice, to hear the whispers of the Holy Spirit, and to walk in obedience to Your will. Give him the strength to turn away from the things that harm him and to run toward the life You have called him to live.
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior, for it is in His name that we have access to You, and it is through Him that we are saved. Amen.
