Thank you for trusting us with this request and allowing us to pray with you for your upcoming colonoscopy. We are joining you in asking the Lord for good results, for life and for healing over your colon, in the name of Jesus.
As you wait for this procedure it is natural to feel anxiety, and Scripture gives us a steady place to stand. The fear of the Lord is described as the beginning and the sum of true knowledge and wisdom. It is not a phobia, but a reverent awe before God in His greatness and power, a heart that loves what He loves and hates what He hates and turns away from evil. With that posture comes the promise that to fear the Lord and depart from evil brings health to the body and strength to the bones, and that those who live in reverence for Him walk with strong confidence.
We also remember how Jesus ministered. The Gospels show Him healing again and again, and Matthew connects that healing to the prophecy in Isaiah that He Himself bore our infirmities and carried our sicknesses. He has power over the material and the spiritual, and His compassion toward the sick reveals His heart toward you now.
You may have heard the words from the letter to Gaius, that he might prosper and be in health even as his soul prospers. That was a loving personal wish from John to his friend, not a blanket guarantee of healing for every situation, yet it points to something true that we see more clearly today. There is a real connection between the health of the soul and the health of the body. Attitudes and emotions affect us physically, and Scripture says a joyful heart does good like a medicine. To cultivate peace in the soul, to keep the heart trusting the Lord, is good for the whole person.
That is why Scripture so often links faith and fear. Fear and faith cannot occupy the same space. When we forget the Lord, fear grows, and when we remember Him, fear loses its hold. One psalm says though we walk through the valley of death we need fear no evil because He is with us. Another reminds us not to be afraid of sudden fear, for the Lord will be our confidence and keep our foot from stumbling. Keeping your eyes on Jesus rather than on the problem itself allows faith to steady you, even while you take wise and prudent steps for your health, for God does care about our bodies and our stewardship of them.
So we pray for you now. Father, we bring this dear one before You in the name of Jesus, who bore our infirmities. We ask for Your presence to be felt in a deep way, driving out fear and giving quiet confidence. Guide the hands and eyes of those performing the colonoscopy, grant clear and good results, and speak life and healing over this body that You created. Help this heart to rest in reverent trust toward You, to hate what is evil and cling to what is good, and to know the peace that comes from walking close to You. We ask for a merry and trusting heart, for strength, and for restoration according to Your mercy and wisdom. In Jesus name, Amen.
