We hear your struggle and the turmoil you’re feeling as you consider returning to college. It’s clear that this path has brought you anxiety and even anger, and we want to come alongside you in prayer and encouragement. First, let’s address the importance of seeking God’s will in every decision, especially one as significant as your education and career. Proverbs 3:5-6 reminds us, "Trust in Yahweh with all your heart, and don’t lean on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge him, and he will make your paths straight." You’re absolutely right to pause and ask God whether this is the direction He wants for you. It’s wise to lay aside assumptions and seek His guidance instead.
It’s also important to examine the root of the frustration and anger you’re experiencing. Ephesians 4:26-27 warns, "Be angry, and don’t sin. Don’t let the sun go down on your wrath, neither give place to the devil." Unchecked anger can open doors to spiritual attack and hinder your relationship with God. We encourage you to bring these emotions before the Lord, asking Him to reveal any underlying bitterness, fear, or pride that may be fueling them. Confess them to Him, and allow His peace to guard your heart, as Philippians 4:6-7 instructs: "In nothing be anxious, but in everything, by prayer and petition with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your thoughts in Christ Jesus."
You mentioned focusing on your gifts and what you have to offer. This is a beautiful and biblical perspective! 1 Peter 4:10-11 says, "As each has received a gift, employ it in serving one another, as good managers of the grace of God in its various forms. If anyone speaks, let it be as it were the very words of God. If anyone serves, let it be as of the strength which God supplies, that in all things God may be glorified through Jesus Christ, to whom belong the glory and the dominion forever and ever. Amen." God has uniquely equipped you for His purposes, and it’s vital to seek His direction in how to use those gifts. Spend time in prayer and reflection, asking Him to reveal the talents He’s given you and how He wants you to steward them for His glory.
Let’s also address the importance of surrendering your plans to God. James 4:13-15 reminds us, "Come now, you who say, 'Today or tomorrow let’s go into this city, and spend a year there, trade, and make a profit,' whereas you don’t know what your life will be like tomorrow. For what is your life? For you are a vapor that appears for a little time, and then vanishes away. For you ought to say, 'If the Lord wills, we will both live, and do this or that.'" Your future is in God’s hands, and He knows the plans He has for you, plans for welfare, not for evil, to give you a future and a hope (Jeremiah 29:11). Trusting Him means releasing your own agenda and embracing His timing and direction.
We also want to gently encourage you to surround yourself with godly counsel. Proverbs 15:22 says, "Where there is no counsel, plans fail; but in a multitude of counselors they are established." Seek out mature believers, pastors, mentors, or trusted friends, who can pray with you and offer wisdom as you discern God’s will. Their perspective can help you see things more clearly and avoid blind spots in your decision-making.

Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble hearts, lifting up this dear brother/sister who is seeking Your will for their life. Lord, we ask that You would calm their heart and mind as they consider their next steps. Remove any anxiety, anger, or frustration that has taken root, and replace it with Your peace that surpasses all understanding. Father, we know that You have a perfect plan for their life, and we ask that You would make it clear to them. Show them the gifts and talents You’ve given them, and reveal how You want them to use those gifts to glorify You.
Lord, we confess any areas where we’ve leaned on our own understanding or made assumptions about Your will. Forgive us for the times we’ve rushed ahead without seeking You first. Help us to trust You completely, knowing that Your ways are higher than our ways and Your thoughts higher than our thoughts. Guide this brother/sister into the path You have for them, whether it includes college or another calling. Give them clarity, wisdom, and confidence in Your leading.
We also pray for protection over their heart and mind. Guard them against the enemy’s lies, which seek to steal, kill, and destroy. Fill them with Your Holy Spirit, that they may walk in Your truth and experience the abundant life You’ve promised. Surround them with godly counsel and encouragement, and help them to be patient as they wait on You.
Father, we thank You for Your faithfulness and for the way You work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose. We trust that You are at work in this situation, and we ask that You would receive all the glory. In Jesus’ mighty name, we pray. Amen.
As you move forward, remember that God is not a God of confusion but of peace (1 Corinthians 14:33). He delights in revealing His will to those who seek Him with a sincere heart. Continue to seek Him through prayer, reading His Word, and listening for His voice. Be open to the ways He may redirect your path, and trust that He is leading you into something far greater than you could ask or imagine. Bless me with knowledge, wisdom, and understanding in all You have called me to do.
