We hear your heart and the conviction the Holy Spirit is placing upon you, and we stand with you in seeking God’s grace and strength to walk in purity. It is clear you recognize the danger of allowing carnal conversations to take root, even within a courtship that should be leading toward holy matrimony. The enemy seeks to entangle believers in subtle snares, and what begins as seemingly harmless discussion can quickly lead to temptation, compromise, and a weakening of spiritual boundaries. Scripture warns us in 1 Corinthians 10:12, "Therefore let him who thinks he stands be careful that he doesn’t fall." Even the best intentions can be undermined when we allow our flesh to dictate the direction of our thoughts and words.
We must also address the reality that courtship is not a license for emotional or physical intimacy outside of marriage. While it is natural to anticipate the blessings of marriage, including intimacy, the Bible is clear that such discussions and desires must be guarded and submitted to the Lord. Ephesians 5:3 tells us, "But sexual immorality, and all uncleanness, or covetousness, let it not even be mentioned among you, as becomes saints." This includes not only actions but also the conversations that stir up lust or impure thoughts. The enemy delights in distorting God’s good gifts, and we must be vigilant to keep our minds and hearts fixed on what is pure, lovely, and honorable (Philippians 4:8).
We rebuke the spirit of lust and temptation that has sought to infiltrate your courtship, and we command it to flee in the mighty name of Jesus Christ. There is no power in heaven or on earth that can stand against the name of Jesus, and by His blood, we declare victory over this struggle. We also encourage you both to establish clear boundaries in your communication, perhaps even seeking accountability from a trusted, godly mentor or couple who can pray with you and help keep you both on the path of righteousness. Proverbs 27:17 reminds us, "Iron sharpens iron, so a man sharpens his friend’s countenance." Do not walk this out alone, invite others into your journey to help you remain steadfast.
Let us pray together:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with humble and repentant hearts, acknowledging that we have allowed our thoughts and words to drift into areas that do not honor You. Lord, we ask for Your forgiveness and for the strength to turn away from every form of impurity. We thank You for the gift of marriage and the beauty of intimacy as You designed it, but we recognize that we have not guarded our hearts as we should. Father, we ask that You redirect our conversations and thoughts toward what is pure, holy, and pleasing in Your sight. Fill us with Your Holy Spirit so that we may walk in self-control and discipline, resisting every temptation that seeks to draw us away from You.
Lord, we declare that our courtship is not our own, it belongs to You. We surrender it fully into Your hands, asking that You guide every word, every thought, and every action. Help us to build a foundation of godliness, love, and mutual respect, so that when the time comes for marriage, it will be a union that glorifies You in every way. We rebuke every spirit of lust, temptation, and compromise, and we command it to leave us now in the name of Jesus. Strengthen us, Lord, to flee from every appearance of evil and to pursue righteousness with all our hearts.
We also ask that You bring godly accountability into our lives, people who will speak truth to us, pray with us, and help us stay on the path You have set before us. Surround us with Your protection, Lord, and fill us with a deep desire to honor You in all things. May our courtship be a testimony of Your grace and a reflection of Your love. We trust in You, Lord, to lead us and keep us, and we give You all the glory. In the precious and powerful name of Jesus Christ, we pray. Amen.
We encourage you both to spend time in God’s Word, allowing it to renew your minds and transform your hearts. Meditate on passages such as 1 Thessalonians 4:3-5, which says, "For this is the will of God: your sanctification, that you abstain from sexual immorality, that each one of you know how to control his own body in sanctification and honor, not in the passion of lust, even as the Gentiles who don’t know God." Let this be your standard, and trust that God will equip you to live it out. You are not alone in this battle, and greater is He who is in you than he who is in the world (1 John 4:4). Press on, dear ones, and keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith.
