Anxiety

Your honest prayer about anxiety is heard with care, and I thank you for bringing it so openly before God and his people. I hear how you are trying to let go and let God take control, and how that very effort can at times feel like losing control and bring more worry. That struggle is real, and God sees it fully.

Scripture speaks of different kinds of conflict, and the hardest is the war within a person, when the heart and mind are troubled and fears and restless thoughts rise up. Outward quiet cannot by itself calm that inner war. What we need is the peace that Christ himself gives, when he said, Peace I leave with you, my peace I give to you. This is not a peace the world gives, and it is not fragile. It is to be received willingly in the heart, deeply and inwardly, and to be kept with all care both at home and in the church where his peace is proclaimed.

You have taken the right steps by declaring the name of Jesus over your life, by remembering that you are blessed and thankful, and by asking God to flush out what is not from him. That is a prayer God delights to answer. The kingdom of God is not worry or striving, but righteousness and peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. When we seek those things, we are given clarity to tell what is true from what is only a passing feeling.

Emotions are real, but they are not always true guides. They come and go, and anxiety can for a time disfigure our view and make things seem darker than they are. What remains steady is the work God does in us, a beauty and strength that no anxiety can finally destroy when we remain in him. Your faith that God saves you through Jesus is the firm ground for that, and you do well to hold to it.

So I pray with you now: Father God, in the name of Jesus, grant your peace that passes understanding to guard this heart and mind. Quiet the inner war, give clarity to discern what is true and what is not, and remove what is not from you. Strengthen faith and hope, and fill this life with your peace and joy in the Holy Spirit. In moments when emotions return, help to remember that you are near, you are in control, and you save.

Continue to bring these worries to God in prayer, stay rooted in his word, and lean on faithful fellowship in the church where his peace is shared. If anxiety continues to weigh heavily, do not walk alone, but share it with a trusted pastor or counselor who can walk with you and pray with you regularly.

You are not forgotten. God hears you, he is with you, and his peace is offered to you again today.
