We hear your deep concern for your daughter and son-in-law, and we join you in lifting them before the Lord with heavy hearts. Marriage is a sacred covenant designed by God to reflect His unconditional love, faithfulness, and unity. The Bible tells us, "Therefore what God has joined together, let no man separate" (Mark 10:9 WEB). Separation is not part of God’s perfect plan for marriage, and we must stand against anything that threatens to divide what He has united.
We recognize that every marriage faces challenges, times of tension, misunderstanding, or even deep hurt. But Scripture reminds us, "Be kind to one another, tenderhearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you" (Ephesians 4:32 WEB). Forgiveness, humility, and selfless love are the foundation of a godly marriage. If there has been sin, whether unfaithfulness, bitterness, or neglect, it must be confessed, repented of, and healed through the power of Christ. The enemy seeks to destroy marriages, but we serve a God who restores and redeems.
We must also rebuke any spirit of division, selfishness, or unforgiveness that may be at work in their hearts. The Bible warns, "Do not be deceived. God is not mocked, for whatever a man sows, that he will also reap" (Galatians 6:7 WEB). If your daughter or son-in-law is considering separation, they must examine their motives before the Lord. Are they seeking their own desires over God’s will? Are they allowing pride or anger to dictate their actions? We must pray that they surrender their will to God’s perfect plan for their marriage.
If there has been abuse, adultery, or unrepentant sin, we must address it with truth and love. The Bible allows for separation in cases of unrepentant immorality (1 Corinthians 7:15 WEB), but even then, the goal should always be restoration, unless the unrepentant spouse has abandoned the marriage entirely. If this is the case, we must pray for wisdom, discernment, and godly counsel to navigate these difficult waters.
Now, let us pray together in the mighty name of Jesus:
"Heavenly Father, we come before You with broken hearts for this marriage. Lord, You designed marriage to be a reflection of Your love, a covenant that should not be broken. We ask that You would soften the hearts of both Your children, that they would seek You above all else. Father, reveal any sin, bitterness, or unforgiveness in their hearts, and bring true repentance and healing. We rebuke the spirit of division and selfishness that seeks to destroy their marriage, and we declare that what You have joined together, no man, or enemy, will separate.
Lord, fill them with Your peace, wisdom, and love. Help them to communicate with kindness and humility, to forgive as You have forgiven them, and to lay down their own desires for the sake of Your will. If there has been unrepentant sin, expose it, Lord, and bring conviction that leads to change. If there has been abuse, protect the vulnerable and bring justice according to Your Word. But above all, Father, we pray for restoration. Let them see the beauty of Your design for marriage and choose to fight for their covenant, not against it.
We ask all these things in the powerful name of Jesus Christ, the One who reconciled us to You and who alone can heal and restore. May Your Holy Spirit move mightily in their lives, drawing them closer to You and to each other. In Jesus’ name, we pray. Amen."
We encourage your daughter and son-in-law to seek godly counsel, whether through their pastor, a trusted Christian marriage counselor, or mature believers who can speak truth into their situation. The Bible says, "Where there is no counsel, the people fall; but in the multitude of counselors there is safety" (Proverbs 11:14 WEB). They must surround themselves with those who will uphold God’s Word and His design for marriage.
If they have not yet surrendered their lives to Jesus Christ, this is the first step. Only through Christ can true healing, forgiveness, and restoration come. We pray they would come to know Him as their Lord and Savior, for "if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation. The old things have passed away. Behold, all things have become new" (2 Corinthians 5:17 WEB).
Stand firm in faith, knowing that God is able to do immeasurably more than we ask or imagine (Ephesians 3:20 WEB). We will continue to pray for their marriage, believing that God can turn even the most broken situations into testimonies of His grace and power.
