We will join you in prayer that your daughter and son-in-law will not separate, but will be given grace to live together in peace. Do not ask God to bless a separation. Ask Him to heal the marriage, because marriage is His lifelong covenant of one man and one woman. The peace they need is not the false peace of parting, but the reconciliation that comes when sin is cut off and wounds are treated.

Pray that resentment, harsh speech, pride, and unforgiveness will be removed from their home, not the husband from the wife. The apostle urges us not to let the sun go down on wrath, because anger left alone grows stronger in the night. So encourage them to settle offenses quickly, to guard their tongues, and to seek counsel from their pastor or elders. Marriage is honorable and pure; it is not the hindrance to a holy life, but the wrong use of it is.

If each spouse will fight against the real enemy rather than against each other, they can be at peace. We will ask God to wound whatever is sinful in both of them and to bind them again in Christ, so that they learn to live with moderation, patience, and forgiveness. Let no outside voice encourage them to treat separation as the answer. We will pray that they remain one flesh and find their true peace in obeying God.

Your love and concern for your daughter and son in law comes through clearly, and it is right to bring their marriage before the Lord and ask for His peace to rule in their home.

Scripture shows that marriage is not simply two people living side by side, but two becoming one. It is a compound unity, one flesh joined by God, and His desire is for that oneness to be guarded and lived out in daily life. In this present life marriage has this meaning and purpose, and God calls husband and wife to live it out in faithfulness and love.

We also see that true peace comes only from Jesus and His kingdom, which is righteousness and joy and peace. The same Lord who spoke with authority to an unclean spirit and commanded it to be quiet and come out is the same Lord who stood up in a storm, rebuked the wind with that same word of authority, and said to the sea, peace be still, and the wind ceased and there was a great calm. What manner of man is this that even the wind and sea obey Him. He is the Son of God, and He still has power to speak peace over the storms that rise inside a home, over confusion, anger, hurt and hardness of heart.

That is what we can ask for here, not that this union be torn apart, but that whatever is stirring strife would be rebuked by His authority and that His calm would settle over them. He is grieved by hardness of heart, yet He is able to restore and make whole. To the one who came in faith He said, your faith has made you whole, go in peace and be whole. That is our prayer for your daughter and son in law, that they would turn to Him in faith, receive His forgiveness and learn to forgive one another, and walk forward made whole in Him.

Let us pray together. Father, in the name of Jesus we bring this daughter and son in law before You. You joined them as one and You hate division. Speak Your peace over their hearts and over their home. Rebuke every force of confusion and strife and bring a great calm. Soften hard hearts, teach them to listen, to speak with grace, to bear with one another in love, and to seek You first. Lead them to walk in Your righteousness and to know Your joy and peace together, that their marriage would be strengthened and preserved for Your glory. Give wisdom and comfort to this parent who loves them and is interceding for them, and help this family to trust You day by day. Amen.

Continue to pray for them, encourage them to seek the Lord together, to stay rooted in His Word, to seek godly and wise counsel that honors marriage as God designed it, and to let His peace rule in their hearts.
