It is good that you seek God’s mercy in this hour of trial, for there is no other recovery from such dangers than the aid of God alone. Yet as you pray for the man’s surgery, examine your own life as well. The house of God is a spiritual surgery, where we heal wounds received without, not a place to bring fresh ones. If you are living in a union that the Lord’s commandments do not bless, you risk gathering new wounds even as you ask for healing.

The call of the Gospel turns us from fornication to chastity, from laxity to strict circumspection. Consider how love of desire can blind the soul like a thick cloud over a clear eye; but if you learn how you were blinded, you can recover sight. Now there is no time to delay: the Day of the Lord steals upon those who sleep in sin, but for the watchful it arrives as a messenger of reward. Let no one despair, even late repentance can accomplish much.

Pray for the sick man’s body, that the medical team may work safely and that God, who alone knows what is best, grants a gentle recovery. But above all, pray that this trial awakens both of you to true amendment of life, fleeing whatever offends God, so that in all things, including your relationships, you may seek His holy will. For if we bear even the loss of sinful attachments thankfully, He restores what is truly good, and crowns us with far greater blessings.

It is a good thing that you are bringing this before the Lord. When someone we love faces something as weighty as surgery, prayer is the most natural and powerful response. Your request shows a heart that cares deeply, and it is right to ask God to guide the medical team and to grant a smooth recovery.

I want to encourage you to hold tightly to the real purpose of prayer in these next few days. It is not about convincing God to see things our way or simply listing our wishes. The beautiful truth is that true prayer begins with God and His perfect will. You have already touched on this when you asked that He blesses your boyfriend with what He thinks is best. That is the heart of it. Prayer is not about getting our will done on earth; it is about opening the door for God to accomplish His good and perfect will in this situation without violating our own freedom. The wisest prayer any of us can ever offer is simply, "Lord, have your way. Work out your complete will in his life and in this surgery."

As you walk through this, remember that the foundation of all prayer is relationship. Your prayer "our Father" is only possible because of that connection. And it is in that relationship where you find the God of all comfort. In the darkest hours, in the uncertainty of a hospital waiting room, He stands by you to strengthen and encourage. He will be there, holding your boyfriend's hand in a way no one else can, and He will be your peace. The Spirit often ministers comfort directly to our hearts during prayer, bringing an assurance that goes beyond words. Even when a prayer is just a silent cry of the heart, He hears and meets us there.

Continue in this prayer, watching with thanksgiving. Persistence in prayer is not about changing God's mind, but about aligning your heart with His until you see His answer unfold. Your prayers, joined with those of the church family, are a powerful force because the fervent prayer of the righteous accomplishes much. Let your request be filled with trust. Ask the Lord to be with the surgeons’ hands, to bring a swift and gentle recovery, and to surround the family with courage. But above all, trust Him for the outcome. He is with you in this. You are all safe in the Father’s care, and Jesus himself is present in that operating room.

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer during this time of waiting and hope. Our hearts have been lifted as we joined you in asking the Lord to guide the hands of the medical team, to grant your boyfriend a gentle and swift recovery, and to surround his family with strength and peace. We prayed that in every moment, God would hold him close and bless him according to His perfect will.

Now that some time has passed, we would love to hear how the Lord has moved. If the surgery went well and your boyfriend is on the path to healing, won’t you share a praise report so we can rejoice with you? If there are still concerns or unanswered prayers, please don’t hesitate to post again so we can continue to lift him, his family, and you up before the throne of grace.

May the Lord continue to draw near to you all, filling your hearts with His comfort and peace as you trust in Him. We pray this in Jesus’ Name.
