Uncaring husband

Your husband’s cruelty is hidden from others, but not from the Lord. He knows the secret wounds of your heart, even as He knew the Samaritan woman’s hidden life. That public image of righteousness he wears matters nothing before the Judge who sees the truth. Yet you must not allow this isolation to drive you into despair. Prayer is the great weapon given you for days of war. At dawn and by night, make God propitious with supplication; go forth into your own home armed, for each day is a tempest, and you need favorable winds.

Do not think that because you have prayed so long you have no need to pray. Even the Apostle Paul sought the prayers of the church. If you say in your heart, "What need have I of prayer?" then that very thought humbles you. Your need is great, and prayer is not something you can set aside as ineffective. And do not imagine you must bear it entirely alone. If we wake and are alert ourselves, then the help of others profits us; but if we sleep and become careless, even the prayers of the saints will not sustain us. So be vigilant. Cry out to God, and discreetly seek a godly soul to join you in prayer, for God hears the earnest entreaty of His people.

Your marriage bond holds you to this man while he lives, as the Law binds a wife. But that does not mean you are without help. The God of peace will bruise Satan under your feet shortly. The enemy stirring strife and cruelty in your home will be crushed, and you will stand as a victor. This is both a prophecy and a prayer for you. When our Lord faced His passion, He prayed not from weakness, but to strengthen the weak. He said, "I thank Thee that Thou hast heard Me... and I knew that Thou hearest Me always." Believe this for yourself. Give thanks even before the answer comes, knowing He hears you always.

You have serious bodily needs now. Pour them out in secret before the Father, for prayer, unlike almsgiving, can be wholly concealed. Ask Him to supply what is lacking. And in spiritual things, seek a large superabundance; you have it in your power by your will to lift your soul to heaven. Do not let the harsh words "get out" terrify you. That is the voice of the enemy, not the final word. The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ is with you; cling to that, and the peace of God will wrap around you more surely than any human circle.

What you are living through right now is not hidden from God. The cruelty you endure behind closed doors, the days of tears, the weight of walking on eggshells, He sees it all. And His heart is not indifferent. When Jesus suffered, he was reviled and did not revile in return; he entrusted himself to the One who judges justly. Your suffering for simply asking a small courtesy, for trying to keep peace in your home, is suffering for righteousness’ sake. That does not make it easy, but it means you are not alone in it. The just one suffered for the unjust, and he knows the sting of being misjudged by those who should have honored him most.

Peace is what you long for, and God has called you to peace. But the deep, abiding peace you need does not come from a change in your husband’s behavior, as desperately as you want that. It comes first from being at peace with God through Jesus Christ. It comes from knowing your sins are forgiven, your worth is secure in him, and nothing can snatch you from his hand. That peace can wrap around you right now, even when the storm in your home is raging. Cry out to him. Tell him the raw truth of your hurt and your fear. Ask him not only for a miracle in your marriage but for his perfect peace to settle deep in your soul, a peace that surpasses all understanding and will guard your heart and mind.

I know you feel trapped, with no income, a recent health issue, and a husband who just told you to leave. The practical fears are very real. But also true is this: your life is not ultimately in his hands. The One who owns the cattle on a thousand hills sees your needs. Look to him for your daily bread and for wisdom. You asked what else to pray for. Pray for strength to hold on to God’s view of you, not his. Pray that his lying words would lose their power over your heart. And pray, as hard as it is, that God would deal with him. A man who uses his tongue to tear down his wife while courting the praise of others is walking in deep darkness. Only the Holy Spirit can convict and change a heart like that.

You are not the fool. That sense of being the only one who sees the truth is terribly isolating, but many wives have wept that same loneliness. Pour out your heart to Jesus, who was also dismissed and misunderstood by those closest to him. He has called you to holiness, not to be a doormat. There may come a time for clear boundaries spoken in love, but for now, let his peace be your refuge. He ordains peace for you even when others mean it for harm. Hold fast to him. I will pray for you, that his presence enfolds you and his wisdom guides your every step.

We continue to lift you up before the Lord, holding fast to the promise that He hears the cries of His children and is near to the brokenhearted. It has been our privilege to stand with you in prayer these past days, interceding for your marriage, your heart, and the quiet battles you face within your home. We have asked our Father to surround you with His peace—a peace that transcends understanding, guarding your heart and mind in Christ Jesus. We have prayed for wisdom, for strength to endure, and for the Lord to soften your husband’s heart, that he might see the pain his words and actions have caused and turn toward repentance and change.

We have also lifted up your daughters, asking the Lord to protect their hearts and minds, that they might not be deceived by outward appearances but come to know the truth in love. We have prayed for provision in your time of need, trusting that God is your Jehovah-Jireh, your Provider, even when earthly resources seem scarce. And we have asked Him to reveal Himself to you in fresh ways, to remind you of His unfailing love and the hope you have in Him alone.

If the Lord has moved in answer to these prayers—if you’ve seen even the smallest shift, a moment of grace, or a glimpse of His faithfulness—we would be overjoyed to hear your praise report. Your testimony could be a beacon of hope to others walking a similar path. But if the weight of this trial still feels heavy upon you, please know we are not finished standing with you. Post this request again, and we will continue to lift you up, believing that God is at work even when we cannot see it.

Above all, we pray that you would draw closer to Jesus, the Author and Perfecter of your faith, who understands suffering and offers rest for your weary soul. May He fill you with His comfort, guide you with His wisdom, and remind you that you are never alone. In Jesus’ mighty and precious name, we pray. Amen.
