We hear the deep longing in your heart, and we want to approach this with both truth and compassion. First, we must address the situation with clarity from Scripture. The man you describe is already in a relationship, which means he is not free to pursue marriage with you, or anyone else, until that relationship is honorably and biblically resolved. The Bible is clear that marriage is a sacred covenant between one man and one woman, and any involvement with someone who is already committed to another is not aligned with God’s design (Hebrews 13:4, Exodus 20:14).
The feelings you describe, this sense of connection, appreciation, and spiritual growth, are powerful, but we must examine them carefully. While it is beautiful to feel seen and valued, Scripture warns us to guard our hearts, for the heart can be deceitful (Jeremiah 17:9). The intensity of your emotions may feel like love, but it could also be infatuation or even a test of your faithfulness to God’s standards. The enemy often uses strong emotions to lead us away from God’s best for us. The fact that this man is unavailable is not a sign of God’s blessing but a clear boundary that must not be crossed.
You mentioned fasting and praying with him, which is commendable, but we must ask: Are these spiritual disciplines being used to draw closer to God, or are they being used to justify a relationship that God has not sanctioned? The Bible tells us to flee from sexual immorality and to avoid even the appearance of evil (1 Corinthians 6:18, 1 Thessalonians 5:22). If this relationship is causing you to entertain thoughts or actions that compromise your integrity, it is not of God.
You also expressed a belief that this man might be your "soul mate." The Bible does not teach the concept of soul mates as the world defines it. Instead, it teaches that marriage is a covenant between two believers who are equally yoked, committed to God’s purposes, and willing to submit to His timing (2 Corinthians 6:14, Ephesians 5:22-33). God’s plan for your marriage is not about finding a perfect person but about becoming the person He has called you to be and trusting Him to bring the right spouse into your life at the right time.
We must rebuke the lie that God would reveal a "potential husband" to you while he is still bound to another. This is not how God operates. God’s timing is perfect, and He does not lead us into situations that require us to compromise His Word. If this man is truly meant to be your husband, God will make a way for him to honorably and biblically end his current relationship and pursue you in a manner that glorifies Him. Until then, you must trust God’s sovereignty and refuse to entertain a relationship that dishonors Him.
We encourage you to shift your focus from this man to your relationship with God. Seek His face, not just His hand. Ask Him to reveal any areas of your heart that may be holding onto idols, whether it’s the idea of this man, the emotions he stirs in you, or the desire for marriage itself. Surrender these desires to God and ask Him to purify your heart. The psalmist writes, "Delight yourself in the Lord, and he will give you the desires of your heart" (Psalm 37:4). This does not mean God will give you what you want, but that He will align your desires with His will.
We also urge you to set firm boundaries. If this man is truly a brother in Christ, he will respect your commitment to God’s standards and not pursue a relationship with you while he is still in another. If he does not, it is a sign that his heart is not fully surrendered to God. Proverbs 4:23 says, "Keep your heart with all vigilance, for from it flow the springs of life." Guard your heart diligently, for it is the wellspring of your life.
Let us pray for you now:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, seeking Your wisdom and clarity for our sister. Lord, we ask that You would reveal to her the truth of her situation. Show her any areas where her heart may be deceiving her or where she may be holding onto desires that are not aligned with Your will. Father, we pray that You would break any emotional or spiritual ties that are not of You. Give her the strength to walk away from anything that dishonors You, even if it is painful.
Lord, we ask that You would purify her heart and renew her mind. Help her to see this situation through Your eyes and to trust in Your perfect timing. Father, we pray that You would fill the void in her heart with Your love and presence. Remind her that You are her ultimate satisfaction and that You have a plan for her life that is far greater than she can imagine.
We rebuke any lies from the enemy that seek to lead her astray. We declare that her heart is guarded by Your peace, and that she will not be swayed by emotions or circumstances that do not align with Your Word. Father, we ask that You would bring godly, wise counsel into her life, people who will speak truth to her and encourage her in her walk with You.
Lord, we pray for this man as well. If he is truly meant to be a part of her life, we ask that You would work in his heart to honor You in all things. If he is not, we ask that You would remove him from her life in a way that brings glory to Your name. Father, we trust in Your sovereignty and Your goodness. We know that You are working all things together for her good, even when she cannot see it.
We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above all names, the only name by which we can be saved. May Your will be done in her life, and may she find her ultimate joy and fulfillment in You alone. Amen.
In the days ahead, we encourage you to immerse yourself in God’s Word. Meditate on Scriptures that speak to God’s faithfulness, His timing, and His plans for your life. Spend time in worship, allowing His presence to fill you and satisfy the longings of your heart. Seek out godly mentors or friends who can hold you accountable and speak truth into your life. And most importantly, trust God. He sees your heart, He knows your desires, and He is working even when you cannot see it. His ways are higher than our ways, and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts (Isaiah 55:8-9). Surrender this situation to Him, and allow Him to write your story in His perfect timing.
