Relentless prayer for an unquenchable thirst for truth and righteousness

Kensem

Beloved of All
Heavenly Father, we come to you in Jesus name

It is written, 'The truth shall set you free.'
Lord Jesus, we pray that you save the team at ###, their lawyers and legal representatives, who are bound by Satan's lies.
We ask your precious blood over those who are chosen and Christians. May you cover them and give them peace and understanding.
May you teach them to be righteous and compassionate.
As we can see, even those who are lawyers and studied law can engage themselves in horrible sins.
Lord, I pray you forgive their sins and let them not do anything that is evil in your eyes.
Lord, we do not wish to boast before You, nor do we wish to look down on lawyers who fall short of Your glory.
However, we humbly acknowledge that we cannot always expect the educated to act righteously.
Lord it is written in Psalms 51,
16For You do not delight in sacrifice, or else I would give it;
You are not pleased with burnt offering. [1 Sam 15:22]
17My sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit;
A broken and contrite heart such, O God, You will not despise.
Lord, I pray in Jesus name that you work on their hearts so that they can recognise their sins and hate their sins enough so that they don't continue to live a sinful life.
Lord it grieves my heart how these people are disregarding human life and honest communication.
Stir their hearts, Lord, and give them an unquenchable thirst for truth and righteousness.
We thank Your Holiness and Your Holy Spirit who is interceding for us and them all the time.
We exalt your name on high, Jesus Christ.
Let your will be done, Heavenly Father, amen

We join you in this relentless prayer for an unquenchable thirst for truth and righteousness and we agree with you in Jesus name for all those involved.

We are encouraged by the humility in your prayer. You do not boast and you do not look down on others, yet you rightly discern that education and knowledge of the law do not make a person righteous. Only God can change the heart. As you quoted, Psalm 51:17 says The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit. A broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise. That is what we are asking God to create in them, a new heart that hates sin and loves truth. Ezek 36:26 promises I will also give you a new heart, and I will put a new spirit within you and I will take away the stony heart out of your flesh, and I will give you a heart of flesh.

We stand on the truth that Jesus himself is the truth and that only the truth can set people free. John 14:6 says Jesus said to him, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me. And John 8:32 says You will know the truth, and the truth will make you free. Those who are bound by Satan's lies cannot free themselves, they need the Savior. We also cling to Matt 5:6 which says Blessed are those who hunger and thirst after righteousness, for they shall be filled. We are asking God to birth that very hunger where there is now disregard for human life and for honest communication.

We also hear your heart for those who are chosen and for Christians who need covering and peace. We pray for them to be kept, to grow in understanding and to walk in compassion even while contending for what is right. We remember Matt 5:44 which says But I tell you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you, and Rom 12:19 which says Don't seek revenge yourselves, beloved, but give place to God's wrath. For it is written, Vengeance belongs to me I will repay, says the Lord. We leave justice in His hands while we pray for mercy and repentance.

We pray together now, Heavenly Father, we come to you in the name of Jesus Christ. We thank you that you are holy and that your Holy Spirit intercedes for us. We ask you to pour your precious blood over your people, cover them, keep them in your peace and give them understanding and wisdom beyond their own. Teach them to be righteous and compassionate as you are. Lord, we lift up that team and their lawyers and legal representatives before your throne. You see where lies have taken hold and where horrible sins have been engaged in. We ask you to forgive and to convict, to work on their hearts so that they recognize their sin, hate their sin, and turn from it. Break the stony heart and give a heart of flesh. Stir them, Lord, and give them an unquenchable thirst for truth and righteousness that only you can satisfy. Let them not do what is evil in your eyes any longer, but let them walk in truth and honor you in all their communication and dealings. We do not ask this because we are better, for we all fall short of your glory, but because you are merciful and mighty to save. Let your will be done. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord we pray, amen.

We hear the weight you are carrying in this prayer, and we join you in it. Wanting truth and righteousness to prevail, especially when you have seen human life and honest communication disregarded, is a holy burden to carry. It makes sense that your heart grieves, and that you are asking God to work deeply in the hearts of those lawyers and representatives rather than just in their actions.

What you described is that painful gap between how things should be and how they are. When we stay in that gap, our thoughts can loop around the wrong we have seen and the anger and sorrow can grow heavy. One thing that has helped others is to make a clear distinction in prayer. There is the decision to release the right to get even and to treat the other person as someone God still loves and can change, and then there is the slower, uneven healing of the emotions around it. The decision can be made before the feelings catch up, and the feelings often need time, prayer, and community before resentment softens into genuine compassion.

If it would help, you might try giving this intercession a contained place in your day. Bring these names before the Lord at a set time, ask specifically that He would give them a love for truth and a hatred for what harms others, and then entrust both them and the outcome to Him for the rest of the day. It can also help to share this burden with a trusted pastor so you are not carrying it alone.

Father, we lift this team and their counsel to You and ask You to work in their hearts, to turn them toward truth and toward a real care for others. Cover Your people with Your peace and guard the one praying from bitterness and weariness. Shape all of us to love what You love. In Jesus name, amen.

It is a good and right thing that you have been moved to pray thus, for to hunger and thirst after righteousness is itself a mark of grace, and our Lord has pronounced such souls blessed with the promise that they shall be filled. You have asked for what God delights to give, an unquenchable thirst for truth and for that righteousness which He alone can work in the heart.

You pray well when you ask not merely that wrongdoing might be restrained, but that hearts might be broken before God. The sacrifice acceptable to God is a broken spirit, a broken and contrite heart such as He will not despise. There is a repentance which is superficial and which the Lord abhors, but the really repentant one hates sin as sin and turns from it with purpose of heart. Such repentance makes a rainbow with her tears of grief for sin and her glances of hope at the love of Christ and His great finished work. She stands at the Cross and sees sin forgiven and then repents more than she ever did when she could not spy out forgiveness, saying, I know my sins are forgiven, but now their pain to me is all the grief and anguish they laid, my Lord, on You. A sense of blood bought pardon soon dissolves a heart of stone.

You do well to bring these souls before Him who lives to give repentance and remission of sins, and who lives to pray for sinners. Lifted on the Cross is Jesus Christ, the great propitiation for sin. Look to Him and looking alone to Him, sinners shall be saved, for He will give the new heart and the right spirit with which they shall be enabled to enter into the love of God and the patience of Christ. He finished transgression, made an end of sin, and brought in everlasting righteousness, and as the Sun of Righteousness He still rides on in power, and nothing impedes Him. Trust in the Lord forever, for in the Lord Jehovah there is everlasting strength.

Continue then to pray that the Lord would direct these hearts into the love of God and into a true hunger after righteousness, that trifles may be counted as trifles and the essential truth of God become their only care. Pray that the new affections may expel the old, and that where there has been disregard for human life and for honest communication, there may be a loathing of sin and a thirsting for that which is just and pure and compassionate. Our Lord Himself said on the Cross, I thirst, and that thirst of His lips was but the index of the deeper thirst of His heart and soul that righteousness might reign by His death. When you hunger and thirst after righteousness in this way, you are in measure partakers with Christ and have fellowship with Him in His hearts desire.

May the Lord hear your cry and answer according to His abundant mercy. May He cover those who are His own with the precious blood of Christ and give them peace and understanding, and may He so work upon those who are yet bound in lies that they may come to hate sin, to love truth, to turn from evil, and to find pardon and a new life in Him who inhabiteth the praises of Israel. We will join our supplication to yours, that His will be done and His name exalted on high, amen.
