[After saying that his disciples must remove any source of temptation, Jesus continued,] "For everyone will be tested with fire."

Mark 9:49 NLT

Key Thought

The real character of our lives will not be left in doubt when we are tested. As one saying goes, "Trial doesn't produce character but reveals it." At the end of human time, all facades will fall. Hidden secrets will be revealed. Well-camouflaged sins will be brought out in the open. Every motivation for each action will be made clear. When we truly submit to Jesus, however, the trial of fire becomes the fire of purification. All that is dross will be removed. Only what is pure will remain.

Today's Prayer

O LORD God Almighty, the judge of all people, I pray that the defects, impurities, and dross in my life will be purified now so that you will be glorified both in my life now and in the day of judgment. In Jesus' name, I pray. Amen.
