Proverbs, Chapter 18

18:1 He who separates himself seeks [his own] desire, And rages against all sound wisdom.

18:2 A fool has no delight in understanding, But only that his heart may reveal itself.

18:3 When the wicked comes, there comes also contempt, And with ignominy [comes] reproach.

18:4 The words of a man's mouth are [as] deep waters; The wellspring of wisdom is [as] a gushing brook.

18:5 To respect the person of the wicked is not good, [Nor] to turn aside the righteous in judgment.

18:6 A fool's lips enter into contention, And his mouth calls for stripes.

18:7 A fool's mouth is his destruction, And his lips are the snare of his soul.

18:8 The words of a whisperer are as dainty morsels, And they go down into the innermost parts.

18:9 He also who is slack in his work Is brother to him who is a destroyer.

18:10 The name of Yahweh is a strong tower; The righteous runs into it, and is safe.

18:11 The rich man's wealth is his strong city, And as a high wall in his own imagination.

18:12 Before destruction the heart of man is haughty; And before honor [goes] humility.

18:13 He who gives answer before he hears, It is folly and shame to him.

18:14 The spirit of a man will sustain his infirmity; But a broken spirit who can bear?

18:15 The heart of the prudent gets knowledge; And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.

18:16 A gift of man makes room for him, And brings him before great men.

18:17 He who pleads his cause first [seems] just; But his fellow man comes and searches him out.

18:18 The lot causes contentions to cease, And parts between the mighty.

18:19 A brother offended [is harder to be won] than a strong city; And [such] contentions are like the bars of a castle.

18:20 A man's belly will be filled with the fruit of his mouth; With the increase of his lips he will be satisfied.

18:21 Death and life are in the power of the tongue; And those who love it will eat its fruit.

18:22 Whoever finds a wife finds a good thing, And obtains favor of Yahweh.

18:23 The poor uses entreaties; But the rich answers roughly.

18:24 He who has many companions [does it] to his own destruction; But there is a friend who sticks closer than a brother.

Faith is trusting God even when you do not understand His plan.  He will guide you with His eye and He will give you the strenght to do what is best for others.  Dear God, be near our hearts and souls when we witness Your word to others in the Summer Vacation.  Use each one of us for your glory and honor. Proverbs 18.10a  The name of Yahweh is strong tower.   We trust in You lord Jesus.  Help us to be witnesses to the end of the world.  Amen

A mans belly will be filled with the fruit of his mouth. Proverbs 18,20a God himself will provide yu with all your needs when you serve Him in whatever position in the House of Prayer. He will open the gates of heaven and will send blessings upon blessing on you and your family. His promises are true. Believe it with all of your heart.

When the spirit of man is broken they need Gods Holy Spirit to fill them with hope and with joy.  The spirit of man will sustain his infirmity.  Prov. 18.14a  It is the precious Holy Spirit dwelling in our hearts that will free us from worry, from anxiety, doubt and fear.  God is the sustainer of our soul.

And the ear of the wise seeks knowledge.  Prov. 18.15b   May my ears be open to hear Gods word every single morning of my life.  In the car, in the bus and on the place I want to hear Gods voice ringing in my hear.  Come to me... Jesus said.  I will make you fishers of men.   Please God.  Use each one of us for your glory and honor.   Amen

This chapter is so rich in wisdom, I don't know where to begin!

Prov. 18: 2 is a great insight into many people that don't care about godly wisdom, only to "discover the REAL ME!"  What does THAT translate into? Fast cars, loose sex, drugs, carnal self-promotion of any sort, etc. Real smart. What about He who died for you? Why not promote Him?

Prov. 18: 24: A wise college professor once told me that people commit spiritual and moral suicide too often by worrying too much about keeping their "friends." This proverb seems to address that problem. As Jim Hightower has said, "Even a dead fish can go with the flow." The only One we should worry about pleasing is God. He is truly our Best Friend Forever! What about all those in the synagogues who were afraid to confess Christ for fear of being thrown out (John 9: 22)?

Prov. 18: 13 is a perennial favorite of mine. Whether in a short conversation or just long, drawn out discussions that last over decades concering any issue from abortion to global warming, it is very bad manners in the short term and very sinful in the long term to respond to any situation without fully hearing it out. Fools are rash by nature whereby a loving, patient good will is the mark of a good or holy man. Keep that in mind, kids.

Imagine a court room where lawyers could cut one another off at will while the judge did crossword puzzles. Or worse yet, a lawyer cutting off the testimony of any good witness or great expert he didn't like. How could the jury decide the facts of the case? It seems bad enough that judges can rule out important evidence as inadmissible. I want all the facts before I make up my mind. Don't you? And we Christians are called to be judges at the end times according to I Corinthains 6: 2. What's stopping us now in this life to get all the facts about anything important?

Yet rudeness is the norm now in our news media. Shock jocks routinely cut off callers when they are about to make a good point. Certain TV news anchors making million$ do the same, routinely interrupting guests--if the guests are lucky enough to be interviewed in the first place. That behavior is very unprofessional, not to mention downright rude and uncivilized. It never went over when I was a child growing up in the sixties. Real Christians are "quick to hear, slow to speak, and slow to wrath (James 1: 19)."

By the way, what happened to Proverbs 17? Was I asleep or doing crossword puzzles?

Do not trust in riches or glory from this world because it will fly away to other people to spend it what you have worked so hard.  Trust in the riches of the glory of God.  The rich mans wealth is his strong city.  Prov. 18.11a  Nothing we have brought to this world and nothing at all we will be able to take to paradise.  Use all the riches you have like CDs, money market acctsm, savings checkins and whatever else you have for Gods glory.  My Ipod belongs to Jesus and I will use it to invite all my friends and coworkers to church.and get saved quickly because Jesus is at the door and knocking.
