Proverbs 16:18: Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall.

Isaac Samuel Lubwama

Faithful Servant
Proverbs 16:18: Pride goeth before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall. 2 Peter 2:6-7: And turning the cities of Sodom and Gomorrha into ashes… delivered just Lot, vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked. Amos 3:7: Surely the Lord God will do nothing, but he revealeth his secret unto his servants the prophets. Proverbs 1:24-27: Because I have called, and ye refused… I also will laugh at your calamity. Acts 17:30-31: And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men Hosea 4:6: My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge… thou hast rejected knowledge… Revelation 3:19: As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten: be zealous therefore, and repent.

We see that your heart is heavy with the weight of God’s warnings to a world that has turned away from His truth, and we share in your burden. The Scriptures you’ve shared are a sobering reminder of the consequences of pride, rebellion, and the rejection of God’s Word. Indeed, "Pride goes before destruction, and a haughty spirit before a fall" (Proverbs 16:18, WEB). This is not just a warning for the ungodly but a call for all of us to examine our own hearts, ensuring that we walk in humility before the Lord, lest we too fall into the snares of arrogance or self-reliance.

The example of Sodom and Gomorrah in 2 Peter 2:6-7 stands as an eternal testimony of God’s justice and mercy. He does not delight in judgment, but He is holy and cannot tolerate unrepentant sin forever. Yet even in the midst of destruction, He rescued Lot—a man who, though flawed, was "vexed with the filthy conversation of the wicked." This shows us that God sees the righteous remnant, those who grieve over the sin around them. Are we, like Lot, distressed by the moral decay in our culture? Or have we grown complacent, blending in rather than standing apart as lights in the darkness? Amos 3:7 reminds us that God reveals His plans to His prophets, and in these last days, He is speaking through His Word and His Spirit to those who will listen. The question is: are we listening? Are we heeding the warnings, or have we allowed the noise of the world to drown out His voice?

The passage from Proverbs 1:24-27 is particularly piercing: *"Because I have called, and you refused... I also will laugh at your calamity."* This is not the laughter of joy but of sorrowful justice—a God who has been rejected time and again, only to see His creation choose destruction over life. How it must grieve His heart! Yet even in this, we see His patience. Acts 17:30-31 tells us that God "now commands all people everywhere to repent, because he has appointed a day in which he will judge the world in righteousness." The time for ignorance is over. The call to repentance is urgent, and it begins with us, His people.

Hosea 4:6 lays bare the root of so much destruction: *"My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge. Because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you."* This is not merely an intellectual knowledge but a heart knowledge—a deep, transformative understanding of who God is and what He requires. Too many today, even within the church, have rejected the full counsel of God’s Word, picking and choosing what suits them while ignoring the rest. We must ask ourselves: are we truly seeking His knowledge, or have we allowed the wisdom of this world to shape our beliefs?

Finally, Revelation 3:19 is a word of both rebuke and hope: *"As many as I love, I rebuke and chasten. Be zealous therefore, and repent."* This is the heart of our Father—He corrects us because He loves us. His discipline is not punishment for punishment’s sake but an invitation to turn back to Him, to walk in the fullness of what He has called us to. If we find ourselves under His rebuke, let us not harden our hearts but respond in repentance and zeal for His kingdom.

Let us pray together:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with hearts humbled by Your Word. You are holy, just, and righteous, and Your warnings are not given in vain but in love, calling Your people—and all people—to turn from sin and walk in Your ways. Lord, we confess that we live in a time where pride is celebrated, where Your truth is rejected, and where many call evil good and good evil. Forgive us, Father, for the times we have remained silent when we should have spoken, for the times we have compromised with the world rather than standing firm in Your Word.

We ask for a spirit of repentance to sweep through Your church, that we would turn from our own pride and self-sufficiency and cling to You alone. Give us the courage to be a voice of truth in a culture that has turned away from You. Help us to grieve over sin as You do, and to love the lost enough to share Your gospel with boldness and compassion.

For those who have hardened their hearts against You, Lord, we pray that You would break through their resistance. Soften their hearts, open their eyes, and draw them to Yourself. Let them see the emptiness of their rebellion and the hope that is found in Christ alone. And for us, Your people, stir up a holy zeal—a passion for Your kingdom that cannot be quenched. May we seek Your knowledge, walk in Your ways, and live as a testimony to Your grace and truth.

We pray for our nations, Lord, that You would have mercy. Turn us from the path of destruction and lead us back to You. Raise up leaders who fear Your name and who will govern with wisdom and integrity. Let revival begin in us, Your church, that we may be a light in the darkness, pointing others to the cross of Christ.

We ask all this in the mighty and precious name of Jesus, our Savior and Redeemer, who alone can save us from the wrath to come. May His name be lifted high, and may all glory be given to Him. Amen.

We're standing with you, dear friend, as you grapple with the weight of God's warnings in our world today. The Scriptures you've shared are indeed sobering, but they also hold a promise of hope - that God is merciful and patient, waiting for us to turn back to Him.

We're reminded of Lot, who was distressed by the filthy conversation of the wicked around him. Are we, like Lot, grieved by the moral decay in our culture? Or have we grown complacent, blending in rather than standing out as lights in the darkness? Let's strive to be like the Bereans in Acts, who were more noble and fair-minded, receiving the word with all readiness, searching the Scriptures daily to see whether these things were so.

Let's not harden our hearts but respond in repentance and zeal for His kingdom. Let's seek His knowledge, walk in His ways, and live as a testimony to His grace and truth. Together, let's cry out to God for mercy, for revival, and for a spirit of repentance to sweep through our churches and our nations.

In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.

Be a Prayer Warrior: “Praying for others”

We want to thank you for allowing us the sacred privilege of lifting your heart before the Lord as you seek humility and repentance in this season. The weight of these Scriptures you’ve shared reveals a heart that is tender before God, and we have been earnestly praying that He would continue to break and mold you in His perfect will. Pride is such a subtle and dangerous snare, but we serve a God who is faithful to convict, correct, and restore those who turn to Him with a contrite spirit.

We have been standing with you in agreement, asking the Lord to expose any area of pride or rebellion in your life—and in our own—so that we might walk in the fear of the Lord, which is the beginning of wisdom. We’ve prayed that He would grant you a spirit of repentance that leads to true transformation, not just sorrow, and that He would surround you with godly counsel to speak truth into your life. Most of all, we’ve asked that He would remind you daily of His mercy, that though He disciplines those He loves, His desire is never to shame but to refine you into the image of Christ.

If the Lord has already begun to work in mighty ways—whether through conviction, restoration, or a deeper surrender to His will—we would love for you to share a praise report with us. Your testimony could be the very encouragement someone else needs to seek Him with the same boldness. And if this battle still feels heavy, if the enemy is whispering lies of condemnation or if your heart still feels hardened in places, we urge you to post this request again. We are here to continue standing in the gap with you, to pray without ceasing until the victory is won.

May the Lord grant you the grace to embrace His correction as an act of love, and may you find peace in knowing that He who began this good work in you will be faithful to complete it. We are cheering you on, believing that God is moving even now to bring you into a deeper place of humility, dependence, and joy in Him.

We love you, and we are still praying in Jesus’ name.
