We come before the Lord with heavy hearts, lifting up this man who is entangled in a web of sin and destruction. The situation you’ve described is deeply troubling, and we must address it with both truth and compassion, for the Word of God is clear: "Do not be deceived. Bad company corrupts good character" (1 Corinthians 15:33 WEB). This man is walking in darkness, and the path he is on will only lead to further bondage, heartache, and separation from God.
First, we must rebuke the sin that has taken hold of his life. He is living in adultery, for the woman he is with is married, and Scripture is unmistakable: "Marriage is honorable in all, and the bed undefiled; but God will judge the sexually immoral and adulterers" (Hebrews 13:4 WEB). This is not a gray area, it is sin, and it is grieving the heart of God. The fact that she has been married multiple times does not justify this relationship; in fact, it should serve as a warning. Jesus Himself said, "Whoever divorces his wife, except for sexual immorality, and marries another, commits adultery; and he who marries her when she is divorced commits adultery" (Matthew 19:9 WEB). This man is not only living in sin but is also yoked with someone who is entangled in drug dealing, which is an abomination before the Lord. "Do not be unequally yoked with unbelievers, for what fellowship have righteousness and iniquity? Or what communion has light with darkness?" (2 Corinthians 6:14 WEB).
His return to drinking and the suspicion of drug use are further signs of his spiritual decline. The Bible warns, "Do not get drunk with wine, which leads to debauchery, but be filled with the Spirit" (Ephesians 5:18 WEB). Alcohol and drugs are tools the enemy uses to dull the conscience, weaken the will, and open the door to greater sin. This man is not only harming himself but is also bringing destruction to those around him, including this woman and her family. The fact that she complains about the problems he causes is ironic, for she is the one who has led him into this lifestyle. "Can a man scoop fire into his lap without his clothes being burned? Can a man walk on hot coals without his feet being scorched?" (Proverbs 6:27-28 WEB). He is reaping what he has sown, and unless he repents, the consequences will only grow worse.
We must also address the fact that this man once had a relationship with the Lord but has since turned away. This is a sobering reality, for Scripture warns, "For if we sin willfully after we have received the knowledge of the truth, there no longer remains a sacrifice for sins, but a certain fearful expectation of judgment" (Hebrews 10:26-27 WEB). However, there is still hope if he will turn back to God with a repentant heart. The Lord is merciful and desires that none should perish (2 Peter 3:9). But repentance must be genuine, it is not merely feeling sorry for the consequences of sin but turning away from it entirely. "If we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9 WEB).
Now, we lift this man up in prayer, crying out to the Lord on his behalf:
Heavenly Father, we come before You with broken hearts for this man who has strayed so far from Your will. Lord, we know that Your heart breaks for him even more than ours does, for You desire that he would turn from his wicked ways and live (Ezekiel 18:23). We ask that You would break the chains of sin that bind him, break the hold of adultery, of alcohol, and of drugs. Lord, we rebuke the enemy who has blinded his eyes and hardened his heart. We declare that the light of Your truth would pierce the darkness in his life, and that he would see the destruction he is walking in.
Father, we pray for conviction to fall upon him. Let him feel the weight of his sin not to condemn him, but to lead him to repentance. Soften his heart, Lord, and remind him of the joy he once had in You. Bring people into his life who will speak truth to him in love, who will not enable his sin but will call him to holiness. We pray that he would flee from this woman and this lifestyle, for "flee sexual immorality! Every sin that a man does is outside the body, but he who commits sexual immorality sins against his own body" (1 Corinthians 6:18 WEB).
Lord, we ask that You would restore his relationship with You. If he has never truly surrendered his life to Jesus Christ, we pray that he would do so now. For "if you will confess with your mouth that Jesus is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, you will be saved" (Romans 10:9 WEB). Let him understand that it is only through the name of Jesus that he can be forgiven, set free, and made new. We pray that he would turn away from his sin and run to the cross, where Your grace is sufficient to cover even this.
Father, we also pray for this woman. Though she is living in sin and leading others astray, we ask that You would open her eyes to the truth. Let her see the destruction her choices are causing, not only in her own life but in the lives of those around her. Draw her to repentance, Lord, and lead her to a saving knowledge of Jesus Christ.
We pray for this man’s family as well. Give them wisdom, Lord, in how to respond to this situation. Let them not enable his sin but also not give up on him. Help them to speak the truth in love, to set boundaries where necessary, and to continue praying for his restoration. Give them strength and peace as they watch and wait for Your work in his life.
Lord, we know that nothing is impossible for You. You are the God who restores the broken, who heals the wounded, and who sets the captive free. We ask that You would do a mighty work in this man’s life. Break every chain, Lord, and set him free. Let him walk in the freedom and victory that is found only in You. We ask all of this in the powerful, mighty name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. Amen.
To this man, if he reads these words, we say: You do not have to stay in this cycle of sin and destruction. There is a way out, and His name is Jesus. The life you are living now is not the life God has for you. He has so much more, peace, joy, purpose, and freedom. But you must turn away from this sin and run to Him. "Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest" (Matthew 11:28 WEB). The choice is yours, but we urge you, choose life. Choose Jesus. Today is the day of salvation. Do not wait another moment.
To his family, we say: Do not lose hope. Keep praying, keep loving him, but do not enable his sin. Set boundaries that protect your own hearts and lives, and trust that God is at work even when you cannot see it. "And let us not be weary in doing good, for we will reap in due season, if we don’t give up" (Galatians 6:9 WEB). Your prayers are powerful, and God hears them. Keep standing on His promises.
