Prayer for wife

My wife is constantly following me around and interrogating me about everything I’m doing, everything I’m touching, and asking if I’m committing adultery in my mind. Day and night.. I mean every second of every day. It is exhausting. I am just burnt out, and she refuses to go to the Lord about her issues and doesn’t want to read the Bible. Every time I get closer to the Lord, it truly seems that the devil tries to get her to retaliate against me. Please pray for conviction for her.

We hear your deep weariness and the heavy burden you carry in your marriage. The constant suspicion, interrogation, and accusations are not only exhausting but also deeply painful, especially when they come from someone who should be your closest ally and companion in Christ. We stand with you in prayer, lifting this situation before the Lord, asking for His intervention, wisdom, and healing for both of you.

First, we want to affirm that your desire to draw closer to the Lord is honorable and pleasing to Him. Scripture tells us in James 4:8, "Draw near to God, and he will draw near to you." It is no coincidence that as you seek the Lord, spiritual opposition arises, this is a sign of the enemy’s fear of what God will do in and through you. The devil seeks to destroy marriages, sow discord, and hinder God’s work, but we serve a God who is greater. 1 John 4:4 reminds us, "You are of God, little children, and have overcome them; because greater is he who is in you than he who is in the world."

Your wife’s behavior is not only damaging to you but also to the sacred covenant of marriage that God has established. Marriage is meant to be a reflection of Christ’s love for the Church, a relationship built on trust, respect, and mutual submission (Ephesians 5:22-33). The constant accusations and lack of trust are not from God. Proverbs 31:11-12 describes a godly wife: "The heart of her husband trusts in her. He shall have no lack of gain. She does him good, and not harm, all the days of her life." We must rebuke the spirit of suspicion and control that is operating in this situation, for it is not of God. 2 Timothy 1:7 tells us, "For God didn’t give us a spirit of fear, but of power, love, and self-control."

It is deeply concerning that your wife refuses to turn to the Lord or engage with His Word. Scripture is clear that the Word of God is living and active, sharper than any two-edged sword (Hebrews 4:12), and it is the only thing that can truly transform hearts and minds. Without it, we are left vulnerable to the lies of the enemy. We must pray fervently for conviction to fall upon her heart. Psalm 51:10 says, "Create in me a clean heart, O God. Renew a right spirit within me." Only God can soften her heart and open her eyes to the truth.

We also want to gently address the accusations of adultery in your mind. While it is important to guard our hearts and minds (Proverbs 4:23), we must also recognize that thoughts will come, but we have the power through Christ to take them captive and make them obedient to Him (2 Corinthians 10:5). You are not responsible for every thought that enters your mind, but you are responsible for what you do with those thoughts. If you are striving to honor God in your marriage and your thought life, then you are walking in obedience. We encourage you to continue to renew your mind with Scripture and reject any lies that suggest otherwise.

Let us pray together now:

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this marriage before You. Lord, we ask that You would move mightily in this situation. We rebuke the spirit of suspicion, control, and fear that has taken root in this home. We declare that this marriage belongs to You, Lord, and we ask that You would restore trust, love, and mutual respect between this husband and wife.

Father, we pray for conviction to fall upon this wife. Soften her heart, Lord, and draw her to Yourself. Open her eyes to the truth of Your Word and the freedom that comes from walking in Your ways. Help her to see the damage that her actions are causing to her marriage and to her own spirit. We ask that You would break the chains of fear and insecurity that are driving her behavior.

Lord, we also lift up this husband to You. Strengthen him in his walk with You. Give him patience, wisdom, and endurance as he navigates this difficult season. Remind him that his identity and worth are found in You alone, not in the accusations or approval of others. Protect his heart and mind from discouragement and weariness.

Father, we ask that You would heal this marriage. Restore what has been broken and bring reconciliation where there is strife. Help this couple to see each other through Your eyes and to love each other as You have loved them. We declare that no weapon formed against this marriage will prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we ask that You would be glorified in their relationship.

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above every name, the only name by which we can be saved. It is through His sacrifice and resurrection that we have access to You, Father, and it is by His power that we can overcome every obstacle. We trust in You, Lord, and we believe that You are working even now to bring about Your perfect will in this situation. Amen.

In the days ahead, we encourage you to continue to stand firm in your faith. Surround yourself with godly community, men who can pray with you, encourage you, and hold you accountable. Do not grow weary in doing good, for in due season, you will reap if you do not give up (Galatians 6:9). Keep your eyes fixed on Jesus, the author and perfecter of your faith (Hebrews 12:2), and trust that He is working all things together for your good (Romans 8:28).

If your wife continues to refuse to seek the Lord, we encourage you to lovingly but firmly set boundaries. You cannot force her to change, but you can control how you respond to her behavior. Seek wisdom from trusted spiritual leaders or counselors who can provide guidance tailored to your situation. Above all, continue to pray for her, for prayer is a powerful weapon in the spiritual battle you are facing.

We hear how exhausting this has been for you, living under constant questioning day and night and feeling burnt out from it. It makes sense you would feel worn down when every movement is monitored and every thought is accused, especially when you are trying to draw closer to the Lord and long for your wife to want that too.

When jealousy and fear take hold, answering each accusation often does not bring peace, it just keeps the cycle going. You cannot prove a thought you did not have, and trying to do so over and over can leave you both more depleted.

We want to encourage you to care for your own steadiness while you continue to love her well. It helps to have a couple of calm, loving boundaries in place, like gently saying you will answer a concern once and then step away from repeating the same interrogation, and returning to it later when things are calmer. It also helps not to carry this alone. Even if she is not willing to come, you meeting with a trusted pastor or a wise, mature couple for ongoing support can give you perspective, rest, and guidance on how to respond without getting pulled into endless debate.

We are also mindful of how heavy burnout can be, so please make room for rest, for honest friendships, and for time with the Lord that restores you.

Father, we lift this husband and his wife to You. You see his exhaustion and his desire to honor You in his marriage. Give him wisdom, strength and peace for each day, and guard his heart. Soften his wife's heart and calm her fears, draw her toward Your love and healing, and bring help and wise counsel around them both. Lead their home toward greater trust and rest. In Jesus' name, amen.

Praying for your request and you

Psalm 100:4
4 Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, and into his courts with praise: be thankful unto him, and his name.
Mathew 5:44
But I tell you, love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you
1 Peter 4:8

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins.
Luke 10:27

He answered, Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength and with all your mind'; and, 'Love your neighbor as yourself.
Mathew 7:1-3

7 Judge not, that ye be not judged.
2 For with what judgment ye judge, ye shall be judged: and with what measure ye mete, it shall be measured to you again.

3 And why beholdest thou the mote that is in thy brother's eye, but considerest not the beam that is in thine own eye?
Isaiah 54:17a
No weapon formed against you shall prosper
Mathew 18:20
20 For where two or three gather in my name, there am I with them.

The weight you have laid before us has been heard, and it is a heavy and wearying burden to bear day and night without rest. To be followed and questioned without ceasing, to be suspected even in the thoughts of the heart, will wear down the strongest spirit, and I do not wonder that you write that you are burnt out.

There is a jealousy which is holy, for the Lord whose name is Jealous is jealous for His own glory and for the good of His people, and the man who loves God will be jealous for the Lord of Hosts as Elijah was. But there is another jealousy which is not of God, a restless and tormenting fear which grieves love and divides a home. The first guards the honor of Christ, the second consumes peace and makes two who should be one to live as strangers under one roof. What you describe is of this latter kind, and it is not love but a wound that needs the healing hand of God.

You are right to desire conviction for her, yet remember how the Spirit works. He convicts of sin and of righteousness and of judgment, not to crush with terror alone but to draw the soul to Christ. There is a conviction which is terrible and gloomy and leaves the heart sore, and there is a conviction which gently draws a sinner to the blood which alone cleanses. Pray not only that she may feel uneasiness, but that the Holy Spirit would open her eyes to see Christ enthroned, to see her need of Him, and to find in Him pardon and a new heart. That is the convincement of grace, and it alone will make her ready, as a bride made ready for her husband, clothed in fine linen which is the righteousness of saints.

In the meantime, you must walk a narrow path. The marriage which God ordained is not two persons maintaining their own separate lives and watching one another with suspicion, it is two becoming one flesh, crowned with mutual delight and complacency. You cannot force that oneness, but you can live it before her. Do not retaliate when you are provoked, for under the Christian dispensation we are not to render anger for anger. Continue to draw near to the Lord even if it seems to stir opposition. Cast your care upon Him who cares for you, for He gives rest to the weary. Let your life show the quiet fruit of abiding in Christ, purity of heart and life, patience under questioning, truth without harshness, love without dissimulation.

Do not bear this alone. Seek the help of a faithful pastor or mature elders in your church who can walk with you both, counsel you face to face, and speak the Word to her with wisdom and love. Continue to pray for her, and with her when she will allow it, and let the Word dwell in your home even if at present she refuses it. The Lord can soften what man cannot.

Let us pray together for you both.

O Lord God, whose name is Jealous and who art jealous for Thy glory and for the peace of the homes Thou hast joined together, look in mercy upon this brother weary in spirit and upon his wife. Forgive us our sins and cleanse our thoughts through the blood of the Lamb. Send Thy Holy Spirit to convict of sin and to reveal Christ in His righteousness, that this sister may turn to Thee with a willing heart to hear Thy Word and to seek Thy face. Grant to this husband strength to endure without bitterness, wisdom to speak the truth in love, and grace to love his wife as Christ loved the Church. Restore oneness where there is strife, give rest where there is exhaustion, and let Thy peace rule in this house. Make both ready for the coming of the Lamb, and keep them faithful till that day. In the name of Jesus Christ our Lord, Amen.
