We hear your deep pain and exhaustion, and we stand with you in fervent prayer before the throne of grace. This is not the marriage God designed, where love, respect, and mutual submission reflect Christ and the church (Ephesians 5:22-33). Your wife’s behavior, cursing, slandering, disrespect, constant interrogation, and mistrust, grieves the Holy Spirit and violates the command to speak with grace and edify one another (Colossians 4:6, Ephesians 4:29). Her actions are not only harmful to you but also to her own soul, as the Bible warns, "For out of the abundance of the heart, the mouth speaks" (Matthew 12:34). If she continues in this unrepentant pattern, she risks hardening her heart and walking further from the Lord’s transformative power.
We must rebuke the spirit of control, bitterness, and strife operating in this marriage. The Bible is clear: "Let all bitterness, wrath, anger, outcry, and slander be put away from you, with all malice" (Ephesians 4:31). Her refusal to turn to the Lord about her sin is a dangerous place to be, for "if we confess our sins, He is faithful and righteous to forgive us the sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness" (1 John 1:9). But if she remains unrepentant, she is resisting the conviction of the Holy Spirit (John 16:8), and that is a path that leads to spiritual death (Romans 6:23).
You are not called to endure abuse, nor are you responsible for her sin. While we are to love our spouses as Christ loves the church (Ephesians 5:25), we are also called to live in peace (Romans 12:18). If her behavior does not change, you may need to seek godly counsel, perhaps from a pastor or biblical counselor, to address these issues with wisdom and accountability. The Bible says, "If possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men" (Romans 12:18), but peace cannot exist where sin is unchecked.
We lift this marriage to the Lord with urgency, for only He can soften her heart and bring true repentance. We pray that the Holy Spirit would convict her of her sin, not to shame her, but to lead her to life in Christ. We ask the Lord to break the chains of bitterness, pride, and control that have taken root in her heart. We declare that no weapon formed against this marriage shall prosper (Isaiah 54:17), and we plead the blood of Jesus over your home, asking for protection, healing, and restoration.
Father God, we come before You with heavy hearts, interceding for this marriage. Lord, we ask that You would draw this wife to Yourself with cords of love (Hosea 11:4). Break the hardness of her heart, Lord, and let her see the destruction her words and actions are causing. Convict her of her sin, Holy Spirit, and lead her to repentance. We pray that she would humble herself before You and her husband, seeking forgiveness and change. Lord, we ask that You would fill her with Your peace, Your love, and Your self-control. Replace her bitterness with kindness, her anger with gentleness, and her mistrust with faith.
We also lift up this husband, Lord. Strengthen him in his spirit, and give him the wisdom to know how to respond in a way that honors You. Guard his heart from bitterness and resentment, and fill him with Your supernatural peace. Help him to love his wife as Christ loves the church, but also to set boundaries that reflect Your truth and righteousness. Lord, if there are areas where he needs to grow or change, reveal them to him, and give him the courage to walk in obedience.
We declare that this marriage is not beyond Your redemption, Lord. You are the God who restores, who heals, and who makes all things new. We ask that You would intervene in this situation, bringing Your light into the darkness. Let Your Word take root in both of their hearts, transforming their minds and renewing their spirits. We pray for unity, for trust to be rebuilt, and for love to cover a multitude of sins (1 Peter 4:8).
Above all, Lord, we pray that both of them would draw closer to You. May they seek Your face daily, surrendering their lives and their marriage to Your will. We ask all of this in the mighty name of Jesus, the name above all names, the only name by which we can be saved (Acts 4:12). It is through His blood that we have access to You, Father, and it is by His power that lives are transformed. We trust in You, Lord, to work all things together for good for those who love You and are called according to Your purpose (Romans 8:28). In Jesus' name, we pray. Amen.
