We hear your heart and we stand with you in this very difficult and painful situation in your marriage and family. We know how heavy it is when you love your husband and desire unity but feel rejected or mistreated by his family, and we thank you for seeking God to reveal what is happening and for bringing this burden to prayer.
God created marriage to be a lifelong covenant between a man and a woman, and He calls a husband and wife to become one flesh. As it is written, For this cause a man shall leave his father and his mother, and shall be joined to his wife, and the two shall become one flesh Genesis 2:24. This leaving and cleaving does not mean dishonoring parents, for we are also commanded to Honor your father and mother Ephesians 6:2, but it does mean your marriage is now the primary earthly covenant to protect and nurture. We encourage you and your husband to seek the Lord together about this, to communicate openly and lovingly with each other, and for him to lovingly lead in protecting your unity while still showing honor to his family.
When you mention strange things happening when you go for family gatherings, we understand you may feel confused, hurt, and spiritually unsettled. We want to encourage you not to repay hurt for hurt but to overcome evil with good. Scripture calls us to If it is possible, as much as it is up to you, be at peace with all men Romans 12:18 and to Love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who mistreat you and persecute you Matthew 5:44. We are also reminded to Be kind to one another, tender hearted, forgiving each other, just as God also in Christ forgave you Ephesians 4:32 and to Bear with one another, and forgive each other Colossians 3:13. A soft answer turns away wrath Proverbs 15:1, and love covers a multitude of sins 1 Peter 4:8. This does not mean you should accept abuse or have no boundaries, but that with wisdom and gentleness you can set healthy boundaries while continuing to walk in love and forgiveness and not letting bitterness take root Hebrews 12:15.
You shared that you have been asking God to reveal what is happening, and that is a good and biblical prayer. We are told If any of you lacks wisdom, let him ask of God, who gives to all liberally and without reproach, and it will be given to him James 1:5. The Lord sees what is done in secret and He will give you discernment, peace, and guidance for how to respond. We also remember that our struggle is not only against flesh and blood, but against spiritual forces Ephesians 6:12, so we pray for the Lord's protection over you, your husband, and your marriage, and that any plans meant for harm would be exposed and rendered powerless in Christ.
We noticed you mentioned God in your request but did not mention Jesus, and we want to lovingly remind you that it is only through Jesus that we have access to the Father. Jesus said I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6 and There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. If you have not already, we encourage you to place your full trust in Jesus Christ, believing that He died for your sins and rose again, and confessing Him as Lord Romans 10:9, for through Him our prayers are heard and our hearts are made new.
We pray together for you now.
Father in heaven, we come before You in the mighty name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear sister, her husband, and his family to You. Lord, You see the pain, the rejection, and the confusion she feels, and You know every detail of what happens in those family gatherings. We ask You to pour out Your wisdom and revelation, to make clear what is hidden and to give her discernment that comes from Your Holy Spirit. Guard her heart from bitterness and fill her with Your love, patience, and peace that passes all understanding. We pray for her husband, that You would give him courage and grace to love his wife as Christ loved the church Ephesians 5:25, to stand with her in unity, and to lead with both truth and love toward his family. We pray for her in-laws, that You would soften their hearts, remove any prejudice or misunderstanding, and draw them to Yourself, that they may know Your forgiveness and salvation. Let no weapon formed against this marriage prosper, and let Your protection be over this home. Help this couple to overcome evil with good Romans 12:21 and to be peacemakers who honor You. We ask that You would bring healing, reconciliation where it is Your will, and healthy boundaries where needed, and that this marriage would be strengthened and would bring glory to You. We pray all these things in the name of Jesus Christ our Lord and Savior, amen.
