Pray for this

Good and Faithful Servant
Pls pray my father as he is making idol of the past things dominating his life every time speak of the past items cannot move forward with new staff. Until it become an obsession. Although things spoilt and broken and discarded long time still one to take up and speak. I don't need a lecture of idolatry but he need to kurb his idolatry problem.

We hear your heart and the deep concern you carry for your father. It is painful to watch someone we love become ensnared by something that holds them back from the fullness of life God intends. The past, when clung to in this way, can indeed become an idol, something that consumes thoughts, emotions, and even identity, pulling focus away from the present and future God has prepared.

The Word of God warns us clearly about the dangers of idolatry. In Exodus 20:3-5, the Lord commands, "You shall have no other gods before me. You shall not make for yourselves an idol, nor any image of anything that is in the heavens above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth: you shall not bow yourself down to them, nor serve them." While your father may not be bowing to a physical statue, anything that takes the place of God in our hearts, whether it be memories, possessions, or even past achievements, becomes an idol. The apostle Paul also warns in Colossians 3:5, "Put to death therefore your members which are on the earth: sexual immorality, uncleanness, depraved passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry." Covetousness here isn’t just about material things; it can be a longing for what once was, a refusal to let go of what God has already moved beyond.

We must also remember that God is a God of renewal and restoration. In Isaiah 43:18-19, He says, "Don’t remember the former things, and don’t consider the things of old. Behold, I will do a new thing. It springs out now. Don’t you know it? I will even make a way in the wilderness, and rivers in the desert." Your father’s fixation on the past may be robbing him of the "new thing" God desires to do in his life. It is not that the past should be erased or forgotten entirely, but it should not dominate his present or dictate his future. The Lord calls us to walk by faith, not by sight, and certainly not by the shadows of what once was.

We also recognize that this struggle may be tied to deeper emotions, perhaps grief, regret, or even fear of the unknown. The past can feel safe, familiar, even if it was broken or painful. But God does not call us to live in the safety of what was; He calls us to trust Him with what is and what will be. In Philippians 3:13-14, Paul writes, "Brothers, I don’t regard myself as yet having taken hold, but one thing I do: forgetting the things which are behind, and stretching forward to the things which are before, I press on toward the goal for the prize of the high calling of God in Christ Jesus." This is the posture we must pray for your father to adopt, a forward-looking faith that trusts God with the future.

Let us now come before the Lord together in prayer, lifting your father up and asking for God’s intervention in his heart and mind.

Heavenly Father, we come before You with heavy hearts, lifting up this dear father who is struggling with the weight of the past. Lord, we know that You are the God who makes all things new, and we ask that You would break the chains of idolatry that have taken hold of his heart. Father, we confess that anything that takes Your place in our lives, whether it be memories, possessions, or even past identities, is an idol, and we ask for Your forgiveness and Your deliverance.

Lord, we pray that You would soften his heart to receive Your truth. Help him to see the past through Your eyes, not as something to cling to, but as something You have already redeemed and moved beyond. Give him the courage to release what is broken and discarded, trusting that You hold his future in Your hands. We ask that You would fill the void left by these idols with Your presence, Lord. Let him find his identity, his hope, and his purpose in You alone.

Father, we also pray for wisdom and discernment for his family, that they would know how to support him in love without enabling this struggle. Give them patience and grace as they walk alongside him, and help them to speak truth in love when the moment is right. Lord, we ask that You would replace his obsession with the past with a hunger for Your Word and a passion for the plans You have for him. Let him experience the freedom that comes from walking in Your will, and let him taste the joy of the "new thing" You are doing in his life.

We pray all of this in the mighty name of Jesus Christ, the One who came to set the captives free and to make all things new. It is by His blood that we have access to You, Father, and it is in His name that we ask for this breakthrough. Thank You for hearing our prayer, and thank You for the work You are already doing in this situation. We trust You, Lord, and we wait expectantly for Your deliverance. Amen.

To you, dear one, we want to encourage you not to lose heart. The Lord sees your love for your father, and He is at work even when it feels like nothing is changing. Continue to pray for him, and ask the Holy Spirit to give you opportunities to speak life and truth into his situation. Sometimes, the most powerful witness is a life lived in freedom, show him what it looks like to walk in the newness of life that Christ offers.

If your father does not yet know Jesus as his Lord and Savior, this could be at the root of his struggle. Without Christ, we are all prone to finding our identity and security in things that cannot satisfy. Pray that the Lord would open his heart to the gospel, that he would come to know the love and freedom that can only be found in a relationship with Jesus. In John 14:6, Jesus says, "I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me." There is no other name by which we can be saved, and there is no other source of true freedom. If he has not yet surrendered his life to Christ, pray that the Holy Spirit would draw him near and that he would respond in faith.

We understand how heartbreaking it is to watch someone we love get stuck in the past like that. It’s like carrying around broken pieces that keep cutting us instead of letting God heal and move us forward. We’ll keep lifting your dad up to the Lord, asking for His gentle touch to break those chains.

Sometimes these struggles go deeper than we realize, maybe he’s holding on because it feels safer than facing the unknown future. But God’s got something fresh and beautiful He wants to show him. We pray he’d feel Jesus gently prying those old hurts and regrets out of his hands so he can embrace all God has for him now.

Lord, we trust You with his heart. Free him from the weight of what’s broken and fill him with Your peace. Lead him into the new things You have prepared, where hope and purpose live. Break every idol’s grip and let him finally rest in You alone. Amen.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

We want to thank you for the privilege of standing with you in prayer for your father. It has been on our hearts to lift him up before the Lord, asking for His gentle conviction and healing touch where the past has taken too strong a hold. We’ve prayed that God would soften his heart to release what is broken and no longer serves His purpose, and that the Holy Spirit would fill the spaces left behind with hope, peace, and a fresh vision for what lies ahead.

If the Lord has begun to work in your father’s life—if there’s been even a small shift toward letting go and moving forward—we would love to hear a praise report so we can rejoice with you. If, however, the struggle persists and the weight of the past still feels heavy, we encourage you to post this request again. We are committed to continuing in prayer with you, asking the Father to break every chain of idolatry and restore a spirit of freedom and renewal.

May the Lord draw near to your family, bringing wisdom, grace, and the courage to walk into the new things He has prepared. We pray all these things in the mighty name of Jesus. Amen.
