Pray for my mother

Guardian

Humble Servant of All
Dear brothers and sisters My mother in aged care has deteriorated with cancer and dementia and she doesn’t eat or drink much and sleeps all day My father and I who feed her every day have tried but are exhausted The paramedics will assess her to see if it’s a virus or she’s at end of life I holdout hope for a miracle Please pray with me 🙏

We have heard your burden for your mother and we are joining you in prayer together in Jesus' name for her and for you and your father in this very difficult and exhausting time.

Our hearts ache with you to see your mother deteriorate with cancer and dementia, sleeping all day and not wanting to eat or drink. We know how heavy it is to feed her every day and to watch someone you love so much grow so weak, and how wearying it is when you and your father are doing all you can and still feel exhausted. The Lord sees your faithfulness and your love for her, and He sees your weariness. He is near to those who have a broken heart, and saves those who have a crushed spirit Psalm 34:18. We also hold to the promise that He will not leave you alone in this valley, even though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil, for you are with me Psalm 23:4.

We understand your hope for a miracle and we share that hope with you, for nothing is impossible with God. At the same time we trust His perfect wisdom and love over life and death, whether He chooses to bring healing on this earth or to bring her home to Himself in peace. We pray for wisdom for the paramedics and the aged care staff as they assess her, to know whether this is a virus that can be treated or whether she is nearing the end of her life, and we pray for clarity and peace for you and your father in whatever they find. We also pray for your strength as caregivers, for you both need rest and renewal. Jesus invites you, Come to me, all you who labor and are heavily burdened, and I will give you rest Matthew 11:28. Do not be afraid to accept help from others and to rest when you can, for God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble Psalm 46:1. He has said, Don't you be afraid, for I am with you. Don't be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you. Yes, I will help you. Yes, I will uphold you with the right hand of my righteousness Isaiah 41:10. And His grace is sufficient for you, for His power is made perfect in weakness 2 Corinthians 12:9.

We noticed your request did not mention the name of Jesus, and we want to gently share why we pray in His name. It is only by the name of Jesus Christ that we have access to the Father, and there is no other name by which we can be saved. Jesus said, I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father, except through me John 14:6. There is salvation in none other, for neither is there any other name under heaven, that is given among men, by which we must be saved Acts 4:12. It is because Jesus died for our sins and rose again that we can come boldly to God in prayer and have the hope of eternal life. If you have not already, we encourage you to put your trust in Him as your Lord and Savior, believing in your heart that God raised Him from the dead, and you will be saved.

We now pray together for you all.

Heavenly Father, we come before You in the name of Jesus Christ and we lift up this dear mother to You. You know her body, You know the cancer and the dementia, You know every breath she takes. Lord, we ask for Your mercy and Your healing touch upon her according to Your will. If it is Your will, we pray for a miracle of healing and restored appetite and strength, for with You all things are possible. We pray You would ease any pain or confusion she feels and let her feel Your presence and Your peace. We pray for the paramedics and carers, give them discernment and compassion as they assess her and care for her. Father, we also lift up this dear child and their father who are exhausted from daily feeding and watching over her. Pour out Your strength upon them, give them physical rest and emotional comfort, and surround them with support. Guard their hearts with Your peace which surpasses all understanding Philippians 4:7, whether You bring healing now or call her home to be with You. Help them to trust that You work all things together for good for those who love You Romans 8:28, and that You are the God of all comfort who comforts us in all our affliction 2 Corinthians 1:3. We ask all this in the precious and powerful name of Jesus, our hope and our healer, amen.

We will continue to stand with you in prayer, asking God to hold you all close, to give you daily strength, and to let you feel His love and peace in the days ahead whatever the outcome may be.

We were grateful you shared about your mother, and we can hear how heavy this season has been for you and your father. Watching someone you love sleep so much and eat and drink so little is heartbreaking, and feeding her every day while carrying that worry would leave anyone exhausted. Waiting for the paramedics to assess whether this is a virus or something more at the end of life is an especially hard place to be, holding both concern and hope for a miracle.

It makes sense that you both feel worn down. Caring for a parent with cancer and dementia asks so much, day after day, and it is not a failure to feel tired. Please let the aged care staff know just how stretched you and your father are. They can help clarify what the assessment shows, what comfort care looks like, and what respite or extra support might be available so you are not carrying this alone. If you have a trusted family member, friend or someone at church, inviting them to sit with you or give you a short break can also help you keep going.

We are praying for you all now.

Father, in Jesus name we lift this dear mother to You, and her son and husband who love her so faithfully. Give wisdom to those assessing her, comfort to her in these quiet sleeping hours, and strength and rest to her family. Hold them in Your mercy whatever the next days bring. Amen.

Your burden has been laid before the Lord and we join you in prayer for your dear mother, for your father and for yourself in this weary and sorrowful watch.

You are wearied in the length of your way, feeding and tending day after day, and we hear the exhaustion in your words. It is right to hold out hope for a miracle, for high thoughts of God beget hope in the soul, and with Him nothing is impossible. Yet we are also taught that there is no hope for us in ourselves, but there is hope in Him whom God has provided to be the Saviour. So we would have you be among the prisoners of hope who turn to the stronghold, which is Christ Himself. Close beside the pit wherein is no water there stands the castle of refuge, and you are invited to turn to it even now.

We pray that the Lord will look upon your mother in her great frailty, with cancer and dementia upon her, sleeping all the day and scarcely eating or drinking. We ask the Great Physician to grant healing according to His wise and merciful will, whether it be a recovery from what now afflicts her, or that deeper healing which pardon and healing together bring. When Jesus healed the sick He said, Son be of good cheer, your sins are forgiven you, to show that pardon and healing are one in His hand. While we are here the body is dead because of sin, but the spirit is life because of righteousness, and we look for that day when having eaten the leaves of the Tree of Life we shall be healed of all that ailed us here below.

We are also reminded that brief life is here our portion and we must each come to our end. Make me to know my end, says the Psalmist, for it shall be conclusive, not a halt but a finale of this mortal journey. When we muse on our end we must remember that one of two portions must be ours, Heaven or Hell, and therefore the greatest mercy is to have life preserved and health restored only if the end of life would not be the beginning of eternal death. Our prayer above all is that your mother, and you and your father, may know the forgiveness that God grants when men are humbled, when they put their mouth in the dust if so there may be hope. God never pardons the proud, but He receives all who come by faith in His Son, for eternal life is the gift of God and is to be received as such.

Therefore we pray with you in this way. May the Lord give wisdom to the paramedics who assess her, to discern what is of the body and what is the drawing near of life's close. May He sustain your father and you with strength for each day, and give you rest even in weariness, for He makes wars to cease and He can give quietness of heart even in the valley of the shadow of death. May He, if it be His gracious will, raise your mother up and restore her, and if He calls her home, may He bear her gently into that better land where sickness is unknown and where the river of the Water of Life proceeds from the throne of God and of the Lamb. May you all be kept by faith in Christ Jesus, who is our life and our hope of glory, that whether in life or in death you may not say, I am sick, but may say, I am forgiven and healed in Him.

We will continue to remember you, your mother and your father before the throne of grace, asking that the Lord will render double unto you for all your sorrow, and give you a good hope of eternal life through believing in Jesus Christ, in whose name alone we pray.

Heal Me Lord Jesus Spirit, Soul, And Body

Your faithful love for your mother and the daily care you and your father have shown her have been heard, and we join you in prayer before the Lord.

To honor father and mother is a commandment of God, and your perseverance in feeding her, watching over her and remaining near her in this time of weakness is a service that is pleasing to Him. He sees your exhaustion and your love. Even on the cross the Lord Jesus showed care for His mother, entrusting her to the disciple He loved, teaching us to show every care for our parents to our last breath. Your labor is not unseen.

We pray with you now for your mother. We ask the Lord in His mercy to have compassion on her in her frailty, with cancer and dementia, with little strength to eat or drink and much sleep. We ask Him to give wisdom to the paramedics and all who assess her, to know what is needed and to act with skill and kindness. If it is His will, we ask Him to lift what may be a passing illness and to restore her strength, for nothing is impossible with God, and we do hold hope for a miracle as you do. And we also ask for His perfect will to be done, trusting that whether in this life or in the life to come, Christ has conquered death and offers eternal life to all who trust in Him alone for salvation. We pray that she would be comforted and kept in peace, free from fear and pain, and held in the love of Christ.

We also pray for you and your father. You have carried a heavy burden and you are weary. May the Lord give you rest for your souls, strength for each day, and peace that guards your hearts as you wait and watch. May He sustain you, provide help and support around you, and remind you that His grace is sufficient and His power is present even in our weakness.

Be assured we will continue to remember you, your mother and your father in prayer. Cast your cares on Him, for He cares for you, and trust His goodness whether He brings healing in this life or calls her home to Himself.
